SANsymphny-V Installatin and Getting Started Guide Pre-Installatin Ntes T ensure a smth installatin, please read thrugh this tpic t prepare the servers that will run SANsymphny -V strage virtualizatin sftware and the hsts that will utilize the virtual strage resurces. Read the Release Ntes prvided with ur sftware fr imprtant infrmatin. SANsymphny-V sftware may als be installed n hsts t bring advanced SAN features clser t running applicatins. Hsts r virtual machines running n hst hypervisrs in a Virtual SAN cnfiguratin can take advantage f the same perfrmance enhancing features used by DataCre Servers; such as aut-tiering and caching. Hsts can als leverage the perfrmance f lcallyattached devices and avid netwrk latency issues. Prduct license keys are nt necessary t install and evaluate SANsymphny-V sftware. Hwever, sftware activatin with valid prduct license keys is required within 30 days. Failing t activate the sftware within the trial perid will prhibit all cnfiguratin peratins. Certain sftware features are disabled r limited in trial mde. D nt install SANsymphny-V server sftware n Dmain Cntrllers. 1
SANsymphny-V Installatin and Getting Started Guide Prepare Servers Running SANsymphny-V Sftware Ensure servers meet r exceed system requirements. Install any Micrsft Windws perating system sftware service packs and updates. D nt enable the fllwing Micrsft Windws Features r Rles n servers running Windws Server 2012 r Windws Server 2012 R2. These features adversely affect the fundamental strage peratins in SANsymphny-V sftware: Strage spaces pls with virtual vlumes iscsi Target vlumes A server name is limited t 15 ASCII characters. Fully qualified dmain names (FQDN) are limited t 64 characters. DataCre Servers "brker" all strage resurce allcatins and paths frm hsts (servers utilizing virtual strage) t physical disks. Cnnect DataCre Servers t hsts and physical strage t the netwrk via FC HBAs, NICs fr iscsi, r a hybrid f bth. IP t FC ruters that enable IP/iSCSI cnnectivity t the Fibre Channel and iscsi strage resurces are supprted. Ensure strage and hsts are accessible t DataCre Servers. Internet Prtcl Versin 4 is supprted fr NICs. NICs shuld be cnnected with a valid IPv4 address. This must be dne prir t sftware installatin r the DataCre iscsi drivers will nt install prperly. In rder t achieve high availability, tw DataCre Servers with tw FC HBAs r NICs are required. This will achieve autmatic failver if I/O directed t ne path fails when a virtual disk is served t a hst with multi-pathing capabilities. An Ethernet cnnectin is required between servers running SANsymphny-V sftware. This cnnectin is required fr cmmunicatins between the servers such as varius messaging, relaying cnfiguratin changes, and cllecting status infrmatin. Strage devices, frm JBOD enclsures t strage arrays, are supprted. Basic vendrspecific cnfiguratin and installatin f these strage devices shuld be perfrmed accrding t manufacturer instructins. After the physical devices are discvered by SANsymphny-V sftware, n further device-specific cnfiguratin is necessary ther than fr hardware maintenance r failure crrectin. Disks marked as "Remvable" in Windws Disk Management cannt be used as strage devices. Servers running SANsymphny-V sftware (including Replicatin partners) and management cnsles require functining name reslutin t reslve cmputer names t IP addresses, fr example hsts files r DNS (Dmain Name System). T ensure crrect cmmunicatin and data transfer, verify that name reslutin exists amng all management cnsles and servers used in lcal and remte server grups. See Name Reslutin fr mre infrmatin. SANsymphny-V sftware will manage any physical disks that are un-partitined. Physical disks with existing file systems and disk frmats (fr example NTFS, VMware VMFS, UFS, and JFS) can be migrated int the SANsymphny-V architecture withut mdifying the structure. Access t current disk cntents can be maintained during the migratin prcess. D nt alter these disks in any manner. See the SANsymphny-V Help tpic Pass-thrugh Disks fr details. 2
SANsymphny-V Installatin and Getting Started Guide If using iscsi: Ensure Micrsft iscsi Initiatr is enabled n the perating system. If using an isns server, attach the isns server t the iscsi SAN and install the isns sftware. Micrsft isns Server sftware can be dwnladed frm the Dwnlad Center n the Micrsft Web site. If planning t replicate virtual disks t a remte lcatin: TCP/IP cnnectins are required between lcal and remte servers. Use Internet Prtcl Versin 4 (IPv4) fr iscsi targets n DataCre Servers. The best practice when replicating between sites is t use a netwrk card that is dedicated t replicating virtual disks and nt used fr ther functins such as iscsi r LAN management. Sharing the netwrk card fr varius uses may impact replicatin perfrmance. If planning t recrd perfrmance data n a remte SQL Server: Micrsft SQL Server 2008 and 2012 (Standard, Enterprise, Develper, r Express editins) are supprted. The SQL Server instance must be created prir t cnfiguring the remte SQL Server in SANsymphny-V sftware. See the SANsymphny-V Help tpic Recrded Perfrmance fr mre infrmatin, including additinal remte SQL Server requirements. If installing a Virtual SAN nde: Ensure Virtual SAN servers meet r exceed the Virtual SAN system requirements. Install any Micrsft Windws perating system sftware service packs and updates. All DataCre Servers and hsts shuld be time-synchrnized. We recmmend cnfiguring the builtin Windws Internet Time Settings (NTP) t synchrnize the time. Prepare Hsts Hsts (servers which will utilize LUNs served frm DataCre Servers) shuld be cnnected t DataCre Servers as nted in the previus sectin. If using iscsi, install an iscsi initiatr n hsts. After SANsymphny-V installatin, discver the DataCre Server targets. All hsts shuld be time-synchrnized with DataCre Servers. We recmmend cnfiguring the built-in Windws Internet Time Settings (NTP) t synchrnize the time. See the Technical Bulletins page f the DataCre Technical Supprt Web site fr imprtant perating system cnfiguratin instructins fr hsts. If running DataCre MPIO sftware frm the Windws Integratin Kit (WIK), read the WIK release ntes fr imprtant cnfiguratin instructins. 3
SANsymphny-V Installatin and Getting Started Guide Windws Security Settings Disclsure In rder t allw SANsymphny-V sftware t functin prperly and DataCre Servers t cmmunicate, certain Windws perating system settings are autmatically changed during the SANsymphny-V sftware installatin. The installatin nly makes the minimum Windws security changes required. Althugh security settings are changed, they are never disabled. Belw are the specific changes perfrmed t the Windws security settings during the installatin: Operating system firewall rules are added t allw DataCre Executive Service, DataCre Supprt Service, SANsymphny-V Management Cnsle, and DataCre iscsi cmmunicatins. (Specific firewall rules can be viewed in Server Manager>Windws Firewall.) A lcal administratr accunt DataCre Executive Service with lgn as service privileges (user name DcsAdmin) is created exclusively fr services in SANsymphny-V sftware. D nt delete the accunt. TCP and UDP Prts In rder fr the sftware t functin prperly, sme prts must be pen: Prt 3793 is used by the DataCre Executive Service (Dcsx.exe) t cmmunicate and transfer data between DataCre Servers (lcally and in Remte Replicatins), and t cmmunicate between Management Cnsles and DataCre Servers. Ensure these machines can accmmdate traffic between them based n yur netwrk cnfiguratin and taking int cnsideratin any firewalls. Prt 3793 is used fr autmatic license activatin and t uplad supprt bundles t DataCre Custmer Supprt. If prt 3793 is unavailable, prt 80 can be used fr autmatic license activatin, but nt t uplad supprt bundles. T use these features, an utbund firewall rule may be required. Prt 3260 is used fr iscsi cmmunicatins. Ensure machines using iscsi can accmmdate traffic between them based n yur netwrk cnfiguratin. Prt 137 (Windws NetBIOS prt) is required t reslve hstnames. Windws perating system cannt reslve hstnames when the NetBIOS prt is blcked by a firewall; NetBIOS is disabled. This prt needs t be pen n any DataCre Server r cmputer running the SANsymphny-V Management Cnsle that uses hstnames (nt FQDN) t cnnect t the server grup. Open the prt in any necessary firewalls. Prts 161 and 162 are used fr SNMP supprt. Prts will be handled by Windws perating system as part f the Windws SNMP package. 4
SANsymphny-V Installatin and Getting Started Guide Name Reslutin IP addresses are used t cmmunicate and transfer data between DataCre Servers (including Replicatin partners), as well as t cmmunicate and transfer infrmatin between DataCre Servers and remte SQL Servers recrding perfrmance data and cmputers running the SANsymphny-V Management Cnsle. In rder t make a netwrk cnnectin using hst names, all machines must be able t reslve the hst names f DataCre Servers t their IP address. We strngly recmmend using hst names instead f IP addresses. Hst names can be reslved t IP addresses regardless f changes t the IP addresses. This tpic addresses name reslutin and hw it pertains t cnnecting t a server grup, and facilitating cmmunicatins within a lcal server grup, between lcal and remte server grups replicating virtual disks, using remte SQL Servers fr perfrmance recrding, and when using a remte SANsymphny-V Management Cnsle. Als see Cnnecting t a Server Grup and the SANsymphny-V Help tpic Establishing Server Grups fr mre infrmatin. Numerus name reslutin mechanisms and implementatins exist. The crrect name reslutin implementatin shuld be based n yur netwrk cnfiguratin. Befre making any changes based n the infrmatin in this tpic, cnsult yur IT department fr guidance and t ensure cmpliance with the name reslutin implementatin fr yur netwrk cnfiguratin. Functining Name Reslutin A name reslutin mechanism must exist t reslve hstnames t IP addresses. Fr instance, sme examples f name reslutin mechanisms are Dmain Name System (DNS) r Windws HOSTS file. A fully qualified dmain name (FQDN) specifies an exact netwrk lcatin f a netwrk device. Fr example, given a cmputer with a lcal cmputer name "mycmputer" and a parent dmain name "dmain.cm", the fully qualified dmain name is "mycmputer.dmain.cm". A hst name can be either a cmputer name r a FQDN. Imprtant Ntes: If a hst name (nt an FQDN) is used t cnnect t a server grup, then the Windws NetBIOS prt 137 used t reslve hst names must be pen. If a hst name (nt an FQDN) is used in the HOSTS file, then the Windws NetBIOS prt 137 used t reslve hst names must be pen. See Windws Security Settings Disclsure fr mre infrmatin abut prts used in SANsymphny-V sftware. A HOSTS file will verride DNS and culd give incrrect results if IP addresses are changed n the DNS. The cmputer name in a HOSTS file is case sensitive. The cmputer name used in a HOSTS file, shuld be the same cmputer name used t cnnect t a server grup. See Cnnecting t a Server Grup fr mre infrmatin. 5
SANsymphny-V Installatin and Getting Started Guide Partnering Within a Server Grup Each server running SANsymphny-V sftware must be able t reslve the hst names f each DataCre Server in the server grup t which it belngs. Fr instance, t partner DataCre Servers A1 and A2 int the same Server Grup A: DataCre Server A1 must be able t reslve the hst name "A2" t an IP address that A1 can cnnect t. DataCre Server A2 must be able t reslve the hst name "A1" t an IP address that A2 can cnnect t. Ensure that the DataCre Servers can reach each ther. Frm a cmmand line n the cmputer running the cnsle, ping each server using the hst name and ensure there is a successful reply. Fr instance, "ping A1" and "ping A2". If the ping times ut withut a reply, check firewall settings t ensure the reply is nt being blcked. Remte Management via the SANsymphny-V Management Cnsle r frm a Different Server Grup The cmputer running the cnsle must be able t reslve the hst names f each DataCre Server in the server grup t which it is cnnecting. Fr instance, t cnnect frm a SANsymphny-V Management Cnsle running n Machine X t Server Grup A cnsisting f DataCre Servers A1 and A2: The cnsle n Machine X must be able t reslve the hst name "A1" t an IP address that Machine X can cnnect t. The cnsle n Machine X must be able t reslve the hst name "A2" t an IP address that Machine X can cnnect t. If the cmputer running the SANsymphny-V Management Cnsle is "utside" the netwrk f the server grup that it is cnnecting t, then public IP addresses may be required fr the cmputer running the cnsle and each DataCre Server in the server grup. In this case, hst names must be reslved t the public IP addresses using the apprpriate name reslutin mechanism. (Editing the HOSTS file might be a pssible slutin.) Ensure that the cnsle can reach each DataCre Server. Frm a cmmand line n the cmputer running the cnsle, ping each server using the hst name and ensure there is a successful reply. Fr instance, "ping A1" and "ping A2". If the ping times ut withut a reply, check firewall settings t ensure the reply is nt being blcked. Replicatin All servers running SANsymphny-V sftware in the lcal and remte server grups invlved in virtual disk replicatin must be able t reslve the hst names f all ther DataCre Servers in thse grups. Fr instance, Server Grup A cnsisting f DataCre Servers A1 and A2 which are replicating virtual disks t Server Grup B cnsisting f DataCre Servers B1 and B2 must be able t reslve the fllwing: DataCre Server A1 must be able t reslve hst names "B1" and "B2" t IP addresses that A1 can cnnect t. DataCre Server A2 must be able t reslve hst names "B1" and "B2" t IP addresses that A2 can cnnect t. 6

DataCre Server B2 must be able t reslve hst names "A1" and "A2" t IP addresses that B2 can cnnect t. If Server Grups A and B are n different netwrks, then public IP addresses may be required fr all DataCre Servers in bth server grups. In this case, hst names must be reslved t the public IP addresses using the apprpriate name reslutin mechanism. (Editing the HOSTS file might be a pssible slutin.) Ensure that DataCre Servers in bth server grups can reach each ther. Frm a cmmand line n each DataCre Server ping each server in the ther server grup and ensure there is a successful reply. Fr instance, frm a cmmand line n DataCre Server A1, "ping B1" and "ping B2". Repeat fr each server. If the ping times ut withut a reply, check firewall settings t ensure the reply is nt being blcked. Remte SQL Recrding Servers Each DataCre Server in the lcal server grup must be able t reslve the hst name f the remte SQL Server t which it is cnnecting. Fr instance, Server Grup A cnsisting f DataCre Servers A1 and A2 which are recrding perfrmance data and sending the data t Remte Recrding Server B must be able t reslve the fllwing: DataCre Server A1 must be able t reslve hst name "Remte Recrding Server B" t an IP address that A1 can cnnect t. DataCre Server A2 must be able t reslve hst name "Remte Recrding Server B" t an IP address that A2 can cnnect t. If the remte SQL recrding server is "utside" the netwrk f the server grup that it is cnnecting t, then public IP addresses may be required fr the remte SQL recrding server and each DataCre Server in the server grup. In this case, hst names must be reslved t the public IP addresses using the apprpriate name reslutin mechanism. (Editing the HOSTS file might be a pssible slutin.) Ensure that each DataCre Server in the server grup can reach the remte SQL recrding server. Frm a cmmand line n each DataCre Server ping the remte SQL recrding server and ensure there is a successful reply. Fr instance, frm a cmmand line n DataCre Server A1, "ping Remte Recrding Server B". Repeat fr each server in the server grup. If the ping times ut withut a reply, check firewall settings t ensure the reply is nt being blcked. 7
SANsymphny-V Installatin and Getting Started Guide Installing SANsymphny-V Sftware An installatin tl (the Smart Deplyment Wizard) assists and guides administratrs thrugh the prcess f cnfiguring and deplying DataCre Servers in varius SAN cnfiguratins. The wizard perfrms prerequisite hardware and sftware checks and additinal autmatic server and server grup cnfiguratin that are nt included with the standard sftware installer. Read the pre-installatin steps in this tpic. The SANsymphny-V sftware package cnsists f the fllwing cmpnents: The Server Cmpnents cnsists f the prgram files used t run the SANsymphny-V virtualizatin functins. These cmpnents are required t be installed n all DataCre Servers. The SANsymphny-V Management Cnsle cmpnent cnsists f the prgram files used t run the user interface. The SANsymphny-V Management Cnsle is used t cnfigure, cntrl, and mnitr DataCre Servers. This cmpnent can be installed n any cmputer running a supprted perating system. (Nt available fr installatin n servers running the Windws Server Cre Installatin Optin.) The SANsymphny-V Cmdlets fr Windws PwerShell cmpnent prvides the ability t perfrm SANsymphny-V strage management activities thrugh the Windws PwerShell cmmand line interface. The Self-guided Optin allws custm installatins where individual cmpnents may be selected. The Server cmpnent can be installed n a DataCre Server withut installing the SANsymphny-V Management Cnsle cmpnent. The SANsymphny-V Management Cnsle cmpnent can be installed n any cmputer t remtely cnfigure, manage, and mnitr DataCre Servers that have the Server cmpnent installed. Befre beginning the installatin: A prduct license key is nt necessary t install and evaluate SANsymphny-V sftware. Hwever, sftware activatin with a valid prduct license key is required within 30 days. Failing t activate the sftware within the trial perid will prhibit cnfiguratin peratins when the trial perid expires. Certain sftware features are disabled r limited in trial mde. Verify that strage servers meet r exceed the system requirements. Read the Release Ntes. Review and perfrm the Pre-installatin Steps in this guide. SANsymphny-V Installatin and Getting Started Guide Installatin Ntes A new installer tl (the Smart Deplyment Wizard) assists and guides Administratrs thrugh the prcess f cnfiguring and deplying DataCre Servers in a variety f envirnments: Single self-guided installatin f a DataCre Server, Basic installatin f a pair f highly available DataCre Servers Virtual SAN installatin Clustered envirnment slutins, including a Highly Available NAS/SAN slutin and Virtual Machines slutin using the Windws Hyper-V feature. Upgrades t existing SANsymphny-V installatins The wizard requires Windws Server 2012 r Windws 2012 R2 be installed fr these cnfiguratins. The "Self-guided" cnfiguratin ptin is a single server installatin using the standard installer, and can be used with ther supprted perating systems such as Windws Server 2008 R2. Fr new installatins ONLY, the wizard verifies that the servers meet the sftware, hardware, and perating system requirements necessary befre installatin. System requirements are nt checked when selecting the upgrade template. T bypass the Smart Deplyment Wizard, exit the wizard by clicking the Exit buttn, and duble-click the SANsymphny-V executable in the installatin flder previusly designated. See Appendix A: Manual Installatin. Servers must be able t cnnect t each ther ver Netwrk Interface Cards (NICs). NICs shuld be cnnected with a valid IPv4 address. Disable firewalls between servers while using the wizard t assure the cnnectin. Servers must be a member f the same dmain r wrkgrup. Lgin with a lcal administratr accunt t deply a single server using the self-guided installatin r High Availability pair r Virtual SAN server. Lgin with a dmain administratr accunt when running the wizard t cnfigure a cluster slutin. SANsymphny-V sftware cannt have previusly been installed n the servers. Uninstall the sftware if necessary and remve the DataCre flder in Prgram Files. If the wizard is exited befre it has cmpleted r the server is restarted during the installatin r upgrade prcess, the wizard will cntinue at the pint where it left ff when it is restarted. Warnings and errrs received while the wizard is running will be lgged in a file named lg.txt in the Smart Deplyment Wizard installatin flder, as well as the perating system Event Viewer>Windws Lgs>Applicatin Lgs. Althugh steps may cntinue when warnings have been flagged, care shuld be taken that a valid cnfiguratin is created. Steps with errrs may nt be cntinued. The errr shuld be crrected and the wizard resumed. After the wizard is finished, pen the SANsymphny-V cnsle and cnnect t the server grup. Cnsult the Help fr instructins n using the SANsymphny-V sftware. Activate yur permanent licenses. In the wizard, tw DataCre Servers will be referred t as Server One and Server Tw. The installatin f Server Tw will be perfrmed remtely frm Server One. Fr a single server installatin, fllw the instructins fr Server One. 9
SANsymphny-V Installatin and Getting Started Guide Installing Using the Wizard On the initial panel, the installatin template categries are displayed: Self-Guided template fr single servers. High Availability Pair template NAS/SAN Unified Strage Slutin template fr use in a clustered envirnment Highly Available Virtual Machines template t create clustered virtual machines Virtual SAN template. Upgrade template fr updating existing cnfiguratins Additinal templates are available t add Servers r Virtual Machines t the cnfiguratin, r t create additinal virtual disks in a Virtual SAN cnfiguratin. Fr mre infrmatin abut each template, see the apprpriate sectin in this dcument. Once a template has been selected, the tp left panel will prvide a high-level verview f the steps the wizard will fllw, while the bttm panel will give a detailed list f the steps, the status f the installatin, and the start and end times fr each step. The main panel prvides a descriptin f the current peratin and allws input fr sme cnfiguratin infrmatin when required. Release Ntes and this Installatin Guide can be accessed by clicking the links in the upper right crner f each panel. Click the Next buttn t prceed thrugh each majr cmpnent f the wizard. If there are errrs r a step fails, the wizard will pause, and can be resumed where it left ff when the issue has been reslved. Once cnnected t a server in the server grup, strage cnfiguratin and management can be perfrmed fr all servers in the server grup frm a single cnsle. Multiple server grups can als be managed frm the same management cnsle by allwing cnnectins t servers in remte server grups. Multiple cnnectins made frm the same cnsle can be easily managed and recalled by saving cnnectin infrmatin. DataCre Servers (including Replicatin partners) require functining name reslutin t reslve cmputer names t IP addresses. T ensure prper cmmunicatin and data transfer, verify that crrect name reslutin exists. If using a HOSTS file, the name in the file shuld be identical t the cmputer name, including case. See Name Reslutin fr imprtant infrmatin abut cnnecting t a lcal r remte server grup and facilitating cmmunicatins between the servers in the lcal server grup, as well as between lcal and remte server grups. Credentials Windws perating system credentials are used t cnnect t DataCre Servers: Credentials can be dmain-wide r lcal (wrkgrup). When cnnecting t a server which is part f a grup, user credentials will be authenticated n each server in the grup. The same user accunts and passwrds (dmain r lcal) must exist n all servers running SANsymphny-V sftware in a server grup. If using the lcal Administratr accunt, passwrds must als match n all servers in the grup. This als applies when cnnecting between lcal and remte server grups; t ensure prper functining f the sftware, the same user accunts must exist n all servers in bth lcal and remte grups. When cnnected, all servers in the server grup can be accessed frm the same cnsle. Cnnectin infrmatin entered in the dialg bx belw is saved fr each cnnectin. The last user name that is assciated with each server name r IP address used t cnnect is saved by default. Passwrds can als be remembered if indicated in the dialg bx. Saved cnnectin infrmatin can be recalled by selecting the cnnectin frm a pull-dwn menu in the dialg bx and eliminates the need t re-enter the infrmatin. Saved cnnectin infrmatin may be deleted by selecting the cnnectin frm the pull-dwn menu and clicking the red X, which appears when there is a saved cnnectin that can be deleted. (The cnnectin t lcalhst cannt be deleted.) T cnnect t a server grup: 1 When the SANsymphny-V Management Cnsle is pened, the Cnnect t Server Grup dialg bx pens. 2 In the dialg bx, enter the name r IP address f the DataCre Server t cnnect t r select it frm the pull-dwn menu. This entry defines hw cmmunicatins will ccur between servers, thrugh server name r specific IP address. If the server name r IP address is nt prvided, a lcalhst cnnectin is assumed. S if cnnecting t the same server yu are currently using, the name r IP address is nt necessary. We highly recmmend using hst names instead f IP addresses. IP addresses can be determined frm hst names regardless f changes t the IP addresses. Fr new installatins and befre users are registered, use the lcal Administratr accunt r the DcsAdmin accunt that was created during the installatin. Use the same accunt fr all servers in the server grup. 3 T lgin t the server using the same credentials that were used when lgging int Windws, select the Use default credentials check bx. Otherwise, clear the check bx and enter the required authrized credentials. (If credentials are dmain-wide, include the dmain with the name fr example: DOMAIN\user name.) 49

If there was a prblem with IP cnnectins during installatin, the DataCre iscsi driver wuld nt be installed and this message wuld have been received during installatin: "The installatin was unable t cnfigure [number] f the iscsi prts. Yu may cntinue with the installatin and manually install the DataCre Sftware iscsi driver after the installatin has finished.
