5 1 Intrductin This manual describes the prduct PrimeCllect which enables yu t cllect and stre infrmatin abut the hardware and sftware f PRIMERGY servers. Fr example, it determines infrmatin abut the system, the perating system, BIOS versin, RAID cnfiguratins, sensr values (e.g. temperature values) r varius lg entries (e.g. System Event Lg). The data determined is cllected in a zip archive, which yu can then send t the Technical Supprt f Fujitsu Technlgy Slutins. When a prblem ccurs, PrimeCllect facilitates analysis by the Technical Supprt f Fujitsu Technlgies Slutins and therefre helps t slve prblems mre quickly. PrimeCllect data is nly cllected fr analysis by Technical Supprt. Therefre, details f PrimeCllect data will nt published. The PrimeCllect functin is prvided either via the ServerView agents r via the elcm (embedded Life Cycle Management) f PRIMERGY servers (see verview f "ServerView embedded Lifecycle Management (elcm)"). elcm is largely integrated int the irmc S4 and cntains the elcm PrimeCllect functin fr creating PrimeCllect archive files. When using PrimeCllect via the ServerView agents, yu must start PrimeCllect manually n ne f yur systems in rder t recrd lg data. In the case f elcm PrimeCllect, the creatin f PrimeCllect archive files is based n the interactin between the irmc S4 and the ServerView agents r the ServerView Agentless Service. The ServerView agents r the ServerView Agentless Service are required fr using the elcm PrimeCllect functin. elcm PrimeCllect extends and supprts ServerView PrimeCllect, since yu can use it t create PrimeCllect archives and save them t the SD card f the irmc S4, fr example. Security Befre sending the archive created with PrimeCllect, yu can review its cntents and if yur security strategy requires this yu can delete individual files frm the archive befre sending the archive t Supprt. 6 1 Intrductin 1.1 Target grups This manual is intended fr system administratrs, netwrk administratrs and service technicians wh have a thrugh knwledge f hardware and sftware. 1.2 Changes since the previus manual This editin is valid fr ServerView PrimeCllect as f ServerView V7.00 and replaces the nline manual: ServerView Suite, PrimeCllect, December 2011 editin. The manual features the fllwing changes and enhancements: Update fr the new versin. 7 1.3 ServerView Suite link cllectin The dwnlads include the fllwing: Current sftware statuses fr the ServerView Suite as well as additinal Readme files. Infrmatin files and update sets fr system sftware cmpnents (BIOS, firmware, drivers, ServerView agents and ServerView update agents) fr updating the PRIMERGY servers via ServerView Update Manager r fr lcally updating individual servers via ServerView Update Manager Express. Select the required PRIMERGY server in the server list. 2. Select the PrimeCllect entry in the Maintenance menu. This entry nly appears if the ServerView agents are installed n the server t be searched Online start n a PRIMERGY server If a Windws full memry dump is fund, this can be stred in a separate zip file (nly necessary if instructed by supprt). T stre a memry dump, yu must start PrimeCllect with the administrative user accunt. Requirements fr the PRIMERGY server: Fr a start frm the Windws Start menu: Windws Server 2008/2008 R2/2012/2012 R2 ServerView agents as f versin 4.91 Yu will find the ServerView agents fr yur perating system n the Server- View Suite DVD 2 r n the Web server under: Yu will find the ServerView agents n the ServerView Suite DVD 2 under ServerView Sftware Prducts Start. 11 2.1 Starting PrimeCllect Administratr rights are required fr an nline start n a PRIMERGY server. Fr a start frm the ServerView Suite DVD 2 r via the Web server: DVD 2 as f Versin Windws Server 2008/2008 R2/2012/2012 R2 With this methd the agents d nt need t be installed. T cllect RAID infrmatin: ServerView RAID as f versin 5.0 Online start n a PRIMERGY server There are tw ways f starting PrimeCllect using the PrimeCllect.exe prgram: via the Windws Start menu: Start Prgrams Fujitsu ServerView Suite Agents PrimeCllect via the ServerView Suite DVD 2 r the Web server in the directry: ServerView - Maintenance & Update Offline start n a PRIMERGY server Requirements fr the PRIMERGY server: ServerView Suite DVD 2 as f versin The perating system n the PRIMERGY server is irrelevant here as Windws PE is laded frm the DVD. With this methd PrimeCllect btains n infrmatin abut the perating system which is installed, e.g. perating system versin r installed drivers. Yu must prvide this infrmatin separately fr Supprt. Bt the server frm the ServerView Suite DVD 1 as f versin Select PrimeCllect in the first dialg bx. 3. Select an apprpriate Keybard layut. 4. Enter either a remvable medium r a netwrk drive as the backup medium t save the PrimeCllect result files. 5. Click Cntinue. 12 ServerView PrimeCllect

13 2.2 Executing PrimeCllect 2.2 Executing PrimeCllect Wrking with PrimeCllect cnsists f tw interlinked steps, namely cllecting hardware and sftware data and cmbining the result files in ne r tw zip files. In the case f a lcal nline start, the ptin is available f string a funded Windws full memry dump in a separate secnd zip file (nly necessary if instructed by supprt). T stre a memry dump, yu must start PrimeCllect with the administrative user accunt Cllecting and string data Display when PrimeCllect is started n the management statin ServerView PrimeCllect 13

14 2 PrimeCllect under Windws 1. T cllect data, click n the Cllect Data buttn after yu have selected PrimeCllect. After this actin has been cmpleted, a link is displayed. 2. Click n the link displayed in rder t save the result files. Display in the event f a lcal start 1. T cllect data, click the Cllect Data buttn after yu have started PrimeCllect. If PrimeCllect was started ffline, please use an external data medium (e.g. USB stick) t save the data. 14 ServerView PrimeCllect

15 2.2 Executing PrimeCllect In the case f a lcal nline start, the ptin is available f string a funded Windws full memry dump in a separate secnd zip file (nly necessary if instructed by supprt). T stre a memry dump, yu must start PrimeCllect with the administrative user accunt. In the case f an ffline start there is n pssibility t draw-ff a full memry dump because the custmer perating system is nt accessed. 2. 19 3.1 Starting PrimeCllect With this methd the agent des nt need t be installed. T cllect RAID infrmatin: ServerView RAID as f versin 5.0 Online start n a PRIMERGY server There are tw ways f starting PrimeCllect using the PrimeCllect.exe prgram: via the PrimeCllect script: Run the PrimeCllect script frm the cmmand line: Select the /usr/sbin directry Yu will find the PrimeCllect script here. Call the PrimeCllect script. via the srvmagt script: Run the srvmagt script with the diag ptin: Open a terminal (as rt). Enter the cmmand: srvmagt diag The diag ptin cllects diagnstic infrmatin via the PrimeCllect(8) call. ServerView PrimeCllect 19

21 3.2 Executing PrimeCllect Display in the event f a lcal start After starting the script, the data is cllected and saved autmatically in a zip r tar.gz file (see figure abve). ServerView PrimeCllect 21

23 4 elcm PrimeCllect In the case f elcm PrimeCllect, the creatin f PrimeCllect archive files is based n the interactin between the irmc S4 and the ServerView agents r the ServerView Agentless Service. The ServerView agents r the ServerView Agentless Service are required fr using the elcm PrimeCllect functin. elcm PrimeCllect supprts ServerView PrimeCllect. Out-f-band elcm prvided by the irmc S4 extends and enhances the PrimeCllect functinality and usability as fllws: Creating PrimeCllect archives autmatically and scheduled String PrimeCllect archive files n the irmc S4 SD-card Maintaining a histry f PrimeCllect archives Transferring PrimeCllect archives t anther server via management LAN r AIS Cnnect (AutImmuneSystems ) Displaying PrimeCllect archives in the irmc S4 Web interface elcm PrimeCllect functinality can be cnfigured and started in the PrimeCllect page f the irmc S4 web interface: ServerView PrimeCllect 23

24 4 elcm PrimeCllect The System Infrmatin grup in the System Overview page infrms yu whether the ServerView Agentless Service is available n the server. Initiating PrimeCllect archive creatin and dwnlad nt the irmc S4 Yu have the ptin t start archive creatin either immediately, autmatically at a fixed date, r peridically. The crrespnding settings can be made in the Schedule PrimeCllect archives grup. Fr details, see the manual "irmc S4 - integrated Remte Management Cntrller". Depending n yur settings, clicking Activate will start archive creatin and dwnlad either immediately r scheduled by a timer. Once PrimeCllect archive creatin has been started, the irmc S4 ntifies the ServerView agents r the ServerView Agentless Service, which subsequently creates the PrimeCllect archive. Archive creatin usually takes several minutes. After archive creatin has cmpleted, the irmc S4 transfers the newly generated archive frm the managed server's file system and stres it n the irmc S4 SD card. While the archive creatin and dwnlad are in prgress, status infrmatin is displayed in the Schedule PrimeCllect archives grup. List f available archives All PrimeCllect archives available n the irmc S4 SD card are displayed in the PrimeCllect archives list grup. Yu can define ne special reference image which will nt be verwritten by the ring buffer principle. Furthermre, archives can be deleted frm the PrimeCllect archives list r saved as a file. Technical Supprt f Fujitsu Technlgy Slutins can access PrimeCllect archives via AIS Cnnect The elcm AIS Cnnect feature f the irmc S4 enables the Technical Supprt f Fujitsu Technlgy Slutins t retrieve PrimeCllect archives frm the irmc S4 via AIS Cnnect (fr details, see the manual "irmc S4 - integrated Remte Management Cntrller"). 24 ServerView PrimeCllect
