OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION: To develop, coordinate and provide community development programmes/events to all residents of the City, with particular focus on seniors, families, children, and people who are disadvantaged. SELECTION CRITERIA 1. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Highly developed verbal and written communication skills. Well developed interpersonal and group work skills Well developed customer service skills. Well developed research and analytical skills. Well developed computing skills including Microsoft Office application.s Sound time management and organisational skills. Sound knowledge in advocacy techniques for clients. Sound knowledge and understanding of issues affecting various community and minority groups. Knowledge of the community development principles and practices, including trends, programs and initiatives. 2. EXPERIENCE: Professional experience in the Social Work / Community Development or related field. Experience in successfully applying for and acquitting funding submissions. Experience in programme development and/or event management. 3. QUALIFICATIONS AND/OR TRAINING: Tertiary qualifications in the Human Services, Community Development, Social Work or related fields. Current C Class Driver s Licence. Current State and Federal Police Clearance. Ability to apply for a Working with Children check. Current Senior First Aid qualification. Availability to work evening and weekends as required to ensure the delivery of specific events and/or programmes. RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Outcome Administration Contribute to programme and policy development of services provided, through ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness and efficiency of services. Research opportunities and apply for grants to assist the City in its provision of services for the community. Prepare reports, agenda items and other correspondence as required. Attend meetings and represent the City on groups and committees relating to the needs of the target group. Supervise students on work experience placement or contract staff as required. Prepare budget and administer funds for projects. Liaise with the Manager of Community Development in preparation of budgets, annual report and business plans. Ensure up to date information regarding services, programs, funding opportunities and Government policies is maintained and readily available. Liaise with agencies, community groups and individuals wishing to raise issues relating to community development, access for people with disabilities and/or from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and undertake research to identify needs. Implement a variety of projects utilising Community Development principles to address issues concerning people with disabilities and/or other identified communities in partnership with Community Development staff. Promote the work being undertaken by the City to improve access for people with disabilities and/or from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. 2. Outcome Policy Development and Implementation Assist in monitoring existing Council policy/practices and develop new initiatives as and when required across areas of community development. Assist with the implementation of the Aged People and People with Disabilities Provision of Transport Assistance policy. Assist with the implementation of the Community and Welfare Grants policy. Assist with the implementation of the Donations, Sponsorship and Waiving of Fees and Charges policy 3. Outcome Community Development Foster the development of services, events and programmes which meet the needs of members of target groups Develop and coordinate community projects and events Promote community spirit and active participation through events and projects Promote the City and the services offered by Community Development through the development of website information, displays, the development of brochures and attending functions and events. Perform other duties as directed by the Manager Community Development. 4. 5. Outcome Customer Service Respond to enquiries regarding community activities, programs, events and services provided by the City. Provide a high level of internal and external customer service and comply with the City s Customer Service Charter at all times 6.
