Diabetes Prevention Program As a leading nonprofit for strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y believes that all people should be able to live life to its fullest, healthiest potential. In the YMCA s Diabetes Prevention Program a trained lifestyle coach will introduce topics in a small classroom setting and encourage participants as they explore how healthy eating, physical activity and behavior changes can benefit their health. Prediabetes is a potentially reversible condition that occurs when blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not high enough for a type 2 diabetes diagnosis. Risk for developing type 2 diabetes may be reduced or eliminated by weight loss, healthier eating, and increased physical activity. Diabetes is a serious condition that causes blood sugar levels to rise higher than normal. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. Currently, diabetes affects more than 29 million people. Prediabetes may be reversible; diabetes has no cure. If you have been diagnosed with prediabetes, or believe you may be at risk for developing the disease, the YMCA s Diabetes Prevention Program can help you develop a healthier lifestyle. Program Features: 16 weekly sessions, followed by 8 sessions for the remainder of the year Led by a trained Lifestyle Coach A group that offers motivation and support Change is tough we can help. If you are at risk, you can make small, measurable changes that can reduce your risk and help you live a happier, healthier life.
