Fun with Me Ages 6 mo to 5 The goals of Parent and Child Aquatics are to provide information and help the parent to be able to help the child learn techniques to be comfortable and safe in and around the water, to develop a readiness for learning to swim and to learn safety fundamentals. Parent and child participate in several guided practice sessions that help children learn elementary skills, including water entry, bubble blowing, front kicking, back floating, underwater exploration and more. The class is taught in the rec pool. Children age 3 and above will be given a recommendation by the instructor at the conclusion of the classes for placement in the next session. 2 Level 2 Grades 1 to 8 Prerequisite: Must have a current Level 1 certificate or a WTRC swim evaluation. The objective of Level 2 is to give students success with fundamental skills. Students learn to float without support and recover to a vertical position. Students will learn how to glide and swim on back/front with face in the water blowing bubbles. Level 2 continues to reinforce treading water and rhythmic breathing. Finning and elementary backstroke arms are introduced. This class is taught in the lap pool. Sa 10:30-11:00a 4/11-5/16 Rec Center Sa 11:00-11:30a 4/11-5/16 Rec Center Level 3 Grades 1 to 8 Prerequisite: Must be have a current Level 2 certificate, WTRC swim evaluation or be able to demonstrate all the completion requirements in Level 2. The objective of Level 3 is to swim front crawl with rotary breathing and elementary backstroke a minimum of 15 yards. Introduce scissor kick, dolphin kick, backstroke and head first dives. This class is taught in the lap pool. The objective of Level 4 is to improve skills and increase endurance by swimming front crawl with rotary breathing and elementary backstroke for greater distances. The objective of Level 5 is to refine performance of the strokes (front crawl, back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, elementary backstroke and sidestroke) and increase distance. Flip turns on the front and back are introduced. Sa 10:00-10:30a 4/12-5/16 Rec Center Beginner Diving Grades 1 to 9 Prerequisites: Must be comfortable in deep water and able to swim the width of the deep end. Must be able to do head-first dive off the side of the pool and jump off the diving board. This class is an introduction to springboard diving. Emphasis will be on learning proper board work, beginning dives and diving safety. A continuation of Intermediate Diving with an emphasis on front and back board work, proper diving techniques, diving safety and competitive dives. Basic water skills will be taught from blowing bubbles, floats, gliding, treading water and basic strokes. Emphasis will be more on endurance swimming, start basic triathlon swimming, treading water and just getting into shape. Instructions are given as to the level as one needs. Tu 8:30-9:00p 4/7-5/12 Rec Center Scuba Ages 13 and up Diving is a lifetime sport that almost everyone can learn and enjoy for years. The class is taught in a safe and relaxing manner. With successful completion, students will be OPEN WATER CERTIFIED. The certification card is recognized worldwide and will open up a whole new world of fun and adventure. Fee includes pool session, lecture sessions, books and equipment used for pool work. Open water dives are not included in the fee; however open water dives must be completed prior to certification. Each week students will be exploring different art media such as drawing, painting, printmaking, pottery and more. This class will help students determine which art form they would like to pursue. The class incorporates mat pilates moves and postures along with core body exercises to develop muscular strength and flexibility and improve posture. Tu/Th 7:30-8:30p 4/7-5/28 Rec West Korean Tai Chi Korean Tai Chi, also known as Kimoodo, is a martial arts practice that promotes holistic health using movements involving powerful stretching, breathing and mental focus. The movements are easy to learn, practice and remember. Some of the many benefits of this class include tension relief, increased muscle tone, improved range of motion and flexibility, and increased mental focus and awareness. No special clothing is required. The instructor is Diane Massie, a 5th degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and has practiced martial arts for 28 years. This schedule is tentative. While it is our intention to follow the published schedule, changes may need to be made due to inclement weather or site difficulties. No refunds will be given for location changes within the weekly or daily schedule. The Camp Afterschool Emergency Medical Form will be attached to your registration receipt. 6 Camp-Spring Break Grades K to 8 You don t have to travel out of town for spring break! A variety of activities and local field trips will be offered each day to make this week seem like a vacation in your own backyard. The required camp forms will be ed to you upon signup. Please bring the completed forms back to the Rec Center prior to participation. The fees cover all trips and supplies. The trip schedule is tentative due to site and/or weather problems. Campers need to bring a lunch in a thermal lunch box and a swim suit and towel daily. This program is a weekly signup only.
