Sattler Christian College From The Principal Farewell Stephanie Tuisuva Term 3 Week 9 In this newsletter: Principal s Message Parent Teacher Interviews Spotlight On Sattler Of The Vine Netball 2015 Notices Save The Date Swimming Carnival Term 3/4 Calendar Principal Allan Long Ph.89831268 Fax. 89831297 15 Sattler Crescent Bees Creek P.O Box 1138 Coolalinga NT 0839 Email admin.scc@ntschools.net In just over a week s time our much loved Primary School Coordinator, Stephanie Tuisuva, finishes up to take 5 terms maternity leave, planning to return in 2017. It is of course a really exciting and happy time for Steph and Joe as they await the birth of their child, but it is also a time when we here at Sattler feel a bit sad as we farewell Steph for the next season of her life. Steph has been such an outstanding teacher and leader at our school. Her impact on her students, the Primary School, and indeed the whole school community has been enormous! I have personally really appreciated working closely with Steph as part of the leadership team and recognise that we have been so blessed to have her as part the Sattler family. As you probably remember, in 2013 Steph won the NT Independent Schools award for Leading Teacher of the Year. She was such a worthy recipient of this award and here are a few extracts from her nomination at that time which continue to ring true. Both as the Year 2/3/4 class teacher and as the Primary School Coordinator Stephanie has consistently demonstrated an outstanding level of educational understanding and expertise. She has overseen curriculum development and documentation throughout the primary school. As the Primary School Coordinator Stephanie has been part of the school leadership team and intrinsic to this she has shared in the task of fostering and promoting the school s educational vision. Stephanie has excellent people skills. She has a positive and cheerful personality and she always strives to encourage and affirm others. She leads her staffing team with warmth, clarity and good humour. She works with her colleagues in a manner that is empowering. She tends to work beside and not over them, always looking to encourage. She is a prolific emailer! She always keeps parents well informed about how their children are going, and makes a special effort to follow up any questions, concerns or requests. In her role as Primary School Coordinator she has played a key part in promoting a positive school culture among the student body and beyond. She has modelled and facilitated this in both formal and informal ways. Her leadership at primary school assemblies has been pivotal for nurturing the school culture, but also how she conducts herself in general in relationships with others is very important. Her dealings with students are very significant, and she consistently communicates to them both clear expectations and unconditional love. Stephanie has risen to these challenges brilliantly and she has managed to maintain fantastic leadership without compromising the priority of meeting the educational and pastoral care needs of her students. We all love you Steph, and we wish you God s richest blessings for the future. May motherhood bring you enormous joy and don t forget to come and visit us often. On behalf of Sattler, I want to say a huge THANKYOU for all you have contributed to our lives. Term 3 Week 9 2015

Term 4 Changes We are very pleased to announce that with Steph taking maternity leave we have secured a very experienced teacher, Mrs Michele Pleiter, to take the Year 3/4 in Term 4. Michele has taught in Christian schools in Victoria and the Northern Territory. She has already had a couple of days at Sattler with Steph as part of the handover of the class and in preparation for next term. Michele is only taking on a single term teaching contract, due to her young family, but I feel that we are very fortunate to have her joining our team even if it is just till the end of the year. Parents of children in the Year 3/4 class can rest assured that Michele will do an excellent job with the class helping them to finish off the year well. Kirsten Leslie is taking some well earned long service leave at the start of Term 4. In Week 5 she will return to a change in role. I am excited to announce that Kirsten will take on the responsibility of Primary School Coordinator. Kirsten will continue in this role in 2016. She will also continue to coordinate the education support programme across the school and manage the library, however, she will be released from her teaching of library lessons. Kirsten is an extremely experienced educator and she knows Sattler so well. Her commitment and dedicated service to Sattler over nearly 20 years has been outstanding. She will bring great wisdom, prayerfulness and insight to the task. Bec Cholmondeley has requested for family reasons that just for Term 4 she drop back to 4 days a week. I have granted this request and Bec will have the Wednesdays off in Term 4. Her class will be taken on Wednesday mornings by Mrs Tasha Robertson, and in the afternoons by Madia Schatz. Tasha is an experienced early years teacher who is relocating this month from WA. Tasha will also cover Kirsten s library lessons in Term 4. In 2016 Tasha will be working at Palmerston Christian School as their Transition teacher. 2016 Classes and Staffing Lots of planning has already been happening for the 2016 school year. Top of the list has been clarifying the class structure and securing the staff we need. In 2016 we will have an additional primary school class and also by then both Steph Tuisuva and Anne Sykes will be on maternity leave. This means that we have needed to find three additional primary teachers and one additional aide for the primary school for 2016. I am really happy to be able to announce that even at this early stage we have made all the appointments we should need for 2016. I will give a brief introduction here about the new staff, but more will be said in the new year. Jessie Campbell will be coming to us from Tasmania. She has had many years teaching experience in various parts of Australia including 5 years in Alice Springs. She has also been involved in mission and ministry in Africa. Leonie Hall will be coming to us from Victoria. She has had 3 years teaching experience including two years as a Year 4 teacher at a Christian school in Queensland. Her move to the NT is linked to her husband s reassignment as part of the armed forces. (Leonie will fill one of the maternity leave appointments.) Michelle (Shelley) Wheeler is currently teaching a Year 5/6 class at Marrara Christian College and she is an enthusiastic young teacher who loves teaching upper primary and she has a passion for teaching Literacy and also using the Arts (music and drama) in her teaching. (Shelley will fill one of the maternity leave appointments.) Rene Prosser is a mum with young children and she has been employed in a number of different administrative roles. She has also worked with children in a voluntary capacity in a range of settings. (Rene is joining our education support team as a part-time teacher aide.) Page 2 SCC 2015

The 2016 Primary School class structure and staffing is as follows: 2016 PRIMARY SCHOOL STAFF CLASS/AREA TEACHER AIDE (Each morning) Transition/Year 1 Bec Cholmondeley Yane Damanik Year 1/2 Jessie Campbell* Rene Prosser* Year 3/4A Leonie Hall* Becky Myers Year 3/4B Stephanie Redgment Mary Vaatstra Year 5 Michelle (Shelley) Wheeler* Alicia Nankervis Primary School Coordinator LOTE (Indonesian) & Library Art School Chaplain Kirsten Leslie Madia Schatz Brenton Bartsch Dianne Jackson (* New staff members at Sattler) We are very blessed to have such a group of talented people joining the Sattler staff in the new year. You may have also noticed from the table above that Madia Schatz will be taking library lessons as well as LOTE in 2016. We are quite fortunate to have such a diversely talented and servant-hearted member of staff such as Madia. The Middle School staffing for 2016 remains much as it has been this year. However it is worth noting that Nicole Marsh will continue in a slightly expanded teacher aide role in the Middle School next year. Planning has also begun drafting possible 2016 class lists for the primary school. I invite parents to pass on to their child s current class teacher or myself any suggestions concerning these. While it may not be possible to accommodate all requests your insights are important and valued. I d be happy to discuss this with you further. Give me a call or drop me an email on allan.long@ntschools.net about this or any other matter concerning education at Sattler. Allan Long Principal Intentions for 2016 Please ensure that if your plans change that you notify the school as soon as possible, we do require a term s notice if you are taking your child out of the school. Under the NT Christian Schools conditions of enrolment a term s notice is required in writing when families chose to cease their children s enrolment at the school. The requirement of a term s notice is very important for careful planning of class sizes and to avoid disappointing other families interested in positions at the school. If less than 10 week s notice is given the policy requires that a term s fees will be charged in lieu of sufficient notice. Page 3 SCC 2015

We have been busy getting to know our children and families. To get the ball rolling in the first week we did some old favourites as chosen by the kids. This included Scratch Art, Connectors, individual child profiles, board games, range of art and craft but by far the biggest hit was unpacking our new resources. We look forward to building relationships with the families within the school community, Come say hello and have a look what else we have been up too, we are located in the Library. Fundraising Update. SPOTLIGHT ON SATTLER The atmosphere was one of excitement on Friday evening as Spotlight On Sattler kicked off. A great time was had by all with plenty of activities for the kids and plenty of coffee, good food and entertainment for the adults. The children had the opportunity to show off all their hard work in their classrooms and in the Art Exhibition in the Library. There were also plenty of fantastic entries in the Spotlight On Sattler Competitions. All in all it was a fantastic night not to be missed! Page 5 SCC 2015

OFF THE VINE Wow! What a time we have had at school. We have been a very active school community as you will see with the following overview of our fundraising and community events of the last 2 weeks. Father s day Breakfast was good! Good food, good kids, good time and good to see our Dads and families join us. Thank you to the good people who showed us love in action and provided the food and set up and packed up for us. It was a lovely morning. Father s day Stall. Shop till you drop! We had over 150 gifts bought by our students for the special person in their life. We raised $680 from this stall. Thank you to the few mums who gave their time and energy to wrapping, tagging, setting up and selling to the students through the day. I hear the biscuits and sweets were delicious. You are fabulous ladies. Spotlight On Sattler. Gosh what a cool night, besides the smokey haze as the sun set we enjoyed the choir singing, Indonesian dancing and the auction was tense at points over art work and some really cool items. A big thank you to families who made curry for us, we had so much donated Murray, Amanda and Lucy Your help dishing up the curries ready to serve was awesome and cleaning up after was spectacular effort from you. We had mums and dads selling drinks and food. We are very grateful for your help. The Art auction was a fun time and we raised $1,185 on the art alone. All the money we raised will be going towards school resources across the school. We give God the Glory for his protection and safety over us on the night with the bushfire concern and we are blessed with the big hearts of those who came and supported us in all the activities. For all of you who organized and helped out on the night may God give your feet much rest and great joy in your heart. Bless you Mary Vaatstra SATTLER EAGLES On Saturday 5 th September the Under 9 and Under 11 netball teams played their last game for the 2015 season.
