3 What is KING S KIDS? New Name, New Excitement, New Friendships KING S KIDS is the new name for our Wednesday evening program for kids age 3 (by September 1) through 5 th grade. KING S KIDS is fun with a purpose! KING S KIDS blends biblical teachings with tons of fun. The aim of KING S KIDS is to take kids a step deeper into God s Word while giving boys and girls regular opportunities to hear the gospel and come to faith in Jesus Christ. Key components include learning about Jesus and what His promises are; learning how much He loves each person along with small group relationship building, large group lesson time and game time. Children will also learn scripture in several fun ways. NewDay Church and parents work together to develop spiritually strong children who love and faithfully follow Jesus Christ. It is not a substitute for Sunday School. It is another area of Christian nurture that strongly enhances the total Christian education program of the church. 5 Guidelines for a great King s Kids experience * Please drop off your children no later than 6:30 pm, but no earlier than 6:15 pm * King s Kids starts at 6:30 pm and ends at 8:00 pm. * Sign-in your child at the check-in table and then escort them to the Sanctuary. * Please return to pick-up your child by 8:00 pm. Sign them out at the check-out table. To avoid confusion and safety risks, all children must be signed-out by a parent or the adult designated by their parent. T-Shirts An important part of KING S KIDS is to establish unity within children (and leaders). We use t-shirts to assist in this effort. We encourage the kids to wear their KING S KIDS shirt. This is especially important when we are doing activities outside of the church. T-shirts are available to purchase for all King s Kids. If your child has a shirt from last year, they do not need to purchase a new shirt this year. For safety during Game Time, each child MUST wear athletic shoes.

6 Journals and Bibles Each Faithful Follower and Worship Warrior will be given a journal. Their journal is a key tool to your child s success in KING S KIDS. We will use it each night to write down key things we learn and our prayer requests and praises. If your child loses their journal, a replacement can be purchased for $3. It is also very important that your child bring their Bible with them each week. They will be looking up Scripture each week. 7 3 Components of KING S KIDS Our KING S KIDS program contains three essential parts. These three parts combine to create the structure in which Christian relationships, Biblical learning, and application and memorization can happen. The three parts are: Small Group Time This is the heart of the program. Children establish trust, friendship and respect with their leader as they go over the lesson with their small group friends. The Leaders get the opportunity to share in the lives of the children as well as teach and encourage them to use scripture to guide them, encourage them or to give thanks for any particular situation in their life. KING S KIDS emphasizes understanding and application of key Bible truths and concepts that show how to know Jesus and walk with Him. Game Time Fellowship, Fun and Games. The goal is to experience great fun at the expense of no one else. It is about Recreation not Wreck reation. Crazy games, some inside some outside, that hopefully everyone enjoys offers a great opportunity for the adult leaders to play with the kids. Large Group Time This is an interactive segment that includes the Faithful Followers and Worship Warriors along with their adult leaders. We work very hard to bring relevant lessons that will help them grow in their relationship with Jesus. We gather to learn and worship.

8 Registration Registration is accomplished by filling out the KING S KIDS registration form and having the child and parent sign the discipline policy form. The attendance of a parent at a Parents Meeting is very important. If you cannot make a scheduled Parents meeting, a meeting time scheduled with the Director or the Children s Pastor must be scheduled and completed prior to your child starting KING S KIDS. You only need to attend one meeting. The annual KING S KIDS Registration Fee is $30 per child for the first two children per family. Additional children from the same family may be registered for $20 each. Full payment of the fees is due at registration. If preferred, a payment schedule can be arranged. Scholarship funds are available; please see the Children s Pastor. Parent participation in KING S KIDS is vital. An opportunity to indicate your participation preference is provided at the Parents Meeting. There are many opportunities to help in a way that will be comfortable for you. **Active participation by at a parent/guardian in this ministry is not only vital to the ministry but it also greatly impacts your child. It shows them the importance of living your faith. If you are unable to commit weekly, consider team leading with another adult. Also make sure to attend our Parent Nights (you will be notified in advance).

Assist your child in making sure they bring their Bible and journal each week. See that they wear their t-shirt. Support the ministry with a financial donation. This ministry is an outreach to the community and it requires a financial commitment.

10 The 1 Rule of KING S KIDS I am a child of God. You are a child of God. We will treat each other as children of God with love and respect. The one rule of KING S KIDS is that everyone treats everyone else as a child of God. As a child of God, each person is of infinite worth and deserves to be treated with respect, kindness, patience, and all other aspects of love. Built into this rule is the goal that each young person understand that he or she is really a value and that each young person learns, sometimes over and over again, to treat all other people this same way. It would be nice if everyone came to KING S KIDS understanding and acting out this rule, but that is not reality. It is also not reality that we can simply post this rule on the wall and expect everyone to immediately comprehend it and live by it. The understanding of one s self and of others that is encompassed by this rule takes lots of time and practice to develop but that is what KING S KIDS is all about, and it is Oh So Worth It! Discipline Procedures The sequence of steps to be followed in handling disciplinary problems is: 1. The leader attempts to handle the situation in a positive way, without embarrassing the child involved. 2. If the behavior is disruptive and continues, the child is sent to discuss it with the KING S KIDS Director or Children s Pastor. 3. If there is a continuing problem that has not been resolved, the Children s Pastor will call the parents of the child involved to discuss the situation. 4. If the problem persists, a conference will be scheduled with the child, parents and other parties concerned.

11 No child is ever dismissed from the KING S KIDS program. We value every child and want each one to feel welcome at church. Guests Guests are always welcome and encouraged. Visitors are expected to stay with the student who brings them throughout the entire program scheduled for that evening. Interested guests are encouraged to enroll in the KING S KIDS program after visiting. Guests are allowed to attend 2 times and can register at any time. Questions and Answers I don t feel qualified to teach kids about God. Can t someone else do it? First, God has equipped you to teach your children about Him and we can t run KING S KIDS without adult volunteers. Secondly, we will train you so that you do fill equipped. And thirdly, there are other opportunities for parental participation such as set-up, take down, or being a greeter. Why does your KING S KIDS program include worship? One of our core values at NewDay is that we are a worshiping church. This gives the kids a chance to experience worship and show God their love. Can my neighbor, who belongs to another church, come to KING S KIDS? The program is open to all children in the community. However, we request each child s participation in services at NewDay Church when KING S KIDS kids will be recognized. How important is it for my child to be in a worship service? VERY! We feel the weekend Worship experience is central to your child s spiritual growth.
