Overview SkyReader is an Android mobile device (Smartphone, Tablet) application that provides you with the capability to access and manage your personal media files in the Android mobile device, a SkyReader supported external device (wireless USB and SD cards drive), and cloud storage (Dropbox, Google Drive, SkyDrive). With SkyReader, you can conveniently view or play your music, video, photo, and document files and manage the files using edit operations (copy, move, delete, rename, compress, protect, share) from the file system in each of the storages. For local storage, you have the advanced features Favorites, Protected Files to further access the local files, quickly, conveniently, and securely. To use the external storage device, there are three flexible configurations Standalone, wireless network, wired network as shown below, and you can control and share the external storage device with other Android mobile device users securely and at the same time. Configuration 3 Wired Network File Source With SkyReader, you can access three main file storages - Local Storage within your Android mobile device, the External Storage from the external device, and the Cloud Storage from the internet. In the Local Storage, you can access files from Local, Protected Files, Favorites, and Photo Lobrary file source. In the External Storage, you can access files in your USB memory sticks or the SD memory cards that are plugged into a SkyReader supported external device. In the Cloud Storage, you can access files from your Dropbox, Google Drive, or SkyDrive accounts.
Starting Screen When you open SkyReader, it opens up to a last accessed file source (e.g. Local), as in Fig A. Then you can tap SkyReader on the top to get a list of available file source as in Fig B. You can tap to select and access the file source Local, Protected Files, Favorites, Photo Library, External Storage, Cloud Storage. Once you have selected a file source (e.g. Local), the list of available file source is hidden and the content, files and folders, are displayed in full screen as in Fig A. You can filter the source content by file types - All, Photo, Video, Music, and Doc., and if there are folders, the files will be filtered and displayed accordingly once you open the folders. While viewing the file source content, you can view or play the files, or you can perform an edit operation on the selected folders and/or files. Fig A Fig B

View Files and Folders In general, you tap once on a file or folder in the file source content to select and open to view/play its content. When you attempt to open a multimedia file, you maybe prompted to complete the action using a player or viewer from a list. You have the option to choose always or open this type of the file only once and then the file content is viewed or played according to the chosen player or viewer.
Edit Operation After you have selected a folder and/or a file from a file source content, you can perform a delete, compress, copy, move, rename, protect, or share operation. The allowable edit operations depends on the file source, the destination, and the nature of the operation. Trash Can delete the selected files and/or folders. Compress compress the selected files and/or folders. Copy copy the selected files and/or folders to the available destination. Move move the selected files and/or folders to the available destination. Rename rename the selected file or folder. Protect move the selected files to the Protected Files. Share open the selected file in another application (e.g. Dropbox), send the file as an attachment in an e-mail, share it to Facebook (photo only), or sent the file to another Android mobile device with SkyReader, via Bluetooth. Example: to perform a copy operation: 1. Tap the files and/or folders selection button to make selections. The selected files and/or folders are indicated by a check mark.
2. The list of available edit operations are displayed at the bottom. 3. Tap the edit operation you want to perform, e.g. Copy, the available destinations are listed. Tap the desired destination, e.g. Dropbox. 4. From the destination file source pop-up, you can create a new folder, navigate to a subfolder, then/or just save the file in the current folder by taping OK. Tap Cancel to cancel the edit operation.
5. You can track the progress of copying in a status pop-up. The numbers 1/1 indicated how many selections are being copied/how many selections in total. You can cancel the copy operation by taping Cancel. 6. Once all selections are copied, the status pop-up is closed, and you will be returned to your original file source screen.
Local This is the main local storage area within your Android mobile device, you can store all media files from the other file source here. Edit operation You can perform the complete set of edit operations to delete, compress, copy, move, rename, protect, and share, for the files in Local. Add files to Local You can copy/move files from External Storage, Cloud Storage source to Local, copy/move files within Local itself, or copy files from Photo Library to Local. Protected Files You can secure your files in Local by moving them into Protected Files so that your private files would not be accidently viewed/played by other users using your Android mobile device. This file source access is protected by a passcode. Edit operation You can perform delete, compress, rename, unprotect, and share operations for the files in Protected Files. You cannot copy or move the selected files. Add files to Protected Files You can select the files from Local file source content and do the protect operation, the selected files will be moved to the Protected Files. First time access to Protected Files If you haven t setup the passcode in Settings, and when you access Protected Files for the very first time, you will be prompted to create a passcode, and to answer four sets of security questions. The security questions are for SkyReader to verify your identity in case you have forgotten the passcode. If you do forget the passcode, after you have correctly provided the answers, SkyReader will then display the passcode. For the subsequent access to Protected Files, only the passcode request is prompted. Attention: you must select suitable questions and provide answers carefully, if you forget your passcode and you can not answer the security questions
correctly, you will not be able to recover the passcode. Forgot Passcode When you are prompted to enter your Protected Files passcode and you have forgotten the passcode, you can tap on Forget passcode? SkyReader will prompt you to answer 2 sets of security questions that you have setup during the first time access to the Protected Files. After you have correctly answered the questions, SkyReader will show the passcode in the passcode box. Change Protected Files Passcode If you need to change the passcode, navigate to Settings->Protected Files Passcode. You must provide the old, new, and confirm the new passcode. Favorites Favorite provides you with the convenient and easy access to the files in Local that you want to refer to quickly without having to browse/search thru files and folders in Local. Edit operation You can only perform the delete operation for the files in Favorite, the delete operation will only remove the favorite link from where the file is stored in Local but it does not delete the file. Add files to Favorites While viewing a file source content, you can tap the star in front of a file in the list to add the file to Favorite file source.
Photo Library Photo Library provides you with the capability to manage photos of in your Android mobile device. You can move all you photo files here and organize them by creating new folders as necessary to let you access them conveniently and easily. Edit operation You can perform the complete set of edit operations to delete, compress, copy, move, rename, protect, and share, for the files in Photo Library. Add files to Photo Library You can copy/move files from Local, External Storage, Cloud Storage source to Photo Library, copy/move files within Photo Library itself. External Storage External Storage lets you access and view/play your personal media files in your SkyReader supported external storage device. The external storage device supports two USB slots and a SD card slot. Plug in your USB memory sticks and the SD memory card, then you can access them from your Android mobile device. In addition, the external storage device can be shared with other users for the same or different media files and at the same time; however, the access to the
external storage device may be denied if the system determines access is overloaded and could cause lagging. Setup 1. You must have a SkyReader supported external storage device. 2. You must configure the External Storage Settings in Settings, please refer to Connecting to External Storage Device for detail. Settings->Device Settings Settings->Share Mode Edit operation You can create new folders and perform the edit operation to delete, copy, move, and rename for the files in your external storage device. Add files to External Storage You can copy/move files from Local/Photo Library to External Storage or copy/move files within External Storage itself. You can also connect the external storage device to PC and transfer files from the PC. Share External Storage You can share your external storage device with other users for read only or read and copy, please refer to Connecting to External Storage Device for how to setup and share the device. Dropbox SkyReader lets you access your personal media files from your Dropbox account without having to close SkyReader and then open the Dropbox application. Setup 1. You must have the internet connection. 2. Follow the setup in the section, Connecting to Cloud Storage. 3. You will be prompted to enter your Dropbox account s e-mail and password each time you access Dropbox file source unless you do the configuration in Settings for:
Settings->Auto Login to Cloud Storage->Set Drobox to ON Edit operation You can perform the edit operation to delete, copy, move, and rename the files in your Dropbox account. Add files to Dropbox You can copy/move files from Local/Photo Library file source to Dropbox or copy/move files to the Dropbox application externally. Google Drive SkyReader lets you access your personal media files from your Google Drive account without having to close SkyReader and then open the Google Drive application. Setup 1. You must have the internet connection. 2. Follow the setup in the section, Connecting to Cloud Storage. You will be prompted to enter your Google Drive account s e-mail and password each time you access Google Drive file source Edit operation You can perform the edit operation to delete, copy, move the files in your Google Drive account. Add files to Google Drive You can copy/move files from Local/Photo Library file source to Google Drive or copy/move files to the Google Drive application externally. SkyDrive SkyReader lets you access your personal media files from your SkyDrive account without having to close SkyReader and then open the SkyDrive application.
Setup 1. You must have the internet connection. 2. Follow the setup in the section, Connecting to Cloud Storage. 3. You will be prompted to enter your SkyDrive account s e-mail and password each time you access SkyDrive file source unless you do the configuration in Settings for: Settings->Auto Login to Cloud Storage->Set SkyDrive to ON Edit operation You can perform the edit operation to delete, copy, move and rename the files in your SkyDrive account. Add files to SkyDrive You can copy/move files from Local/Photo Library file source to SkyDrive or copy/move files to the SkyDrive application externally. Bluetooth SkyReader provides the file transfer capability between two Android mobile device with SkyReader via Bluetooth. For example, you can copy a file from Local or Photo Library file source from one mobile device to Local file source of another mobile device under the Local/Bluetooth folder, via Bluetooth. Setup 1. Both Android mobile devices must have SkyReader installed. 2. For the receiving Android mobile device, navigate to device s Settings->Wireless & Networks, and set Bloothtooth to ON. File transfer
Transmitting Device 1. Select a file from the Local or Photo library file source, then perform a share operation. 2. When prompted to complete the action using an application from a list of available application software, choose Bluetooth. 3. Device will start scanning for the available Bluetooth device to transfer the file to. 4. From the list of available Bluetooth devices, select the Receiving Device. 5. SkyReader will then transfer the selected file to the Receiving Device. Receiving Device 1. You will be prompted that there is an incoming file through Bluetooth, tap confirm to accept the file. 2. The received file is saved in the Local file source under the Local/Bluetooth folder
Settings The settings allow you to configure your SkyReader supported External Storage device and provide general settings for SkyReader App. External Storage Settings: 1. Device Settings As the owner of the external storage, you can do the following for the device: a. Device Access to change the external storage device s Wi-Fi Name (SSID), Wi-Fi Password, Device Access Code. b. Network Access if you want to access both external storage device and cloud storage/internet at the same time, you must provide the Network Access info. c. Software Upgrade to upgrade external storage device s firmware. d. About to provide external storage device s info: Device Version, Wi-Fi MAC, Model name 2. Share Mode As the owner of the external storage device, you have the option to share it with other users. There are three modes for sharing the device: a. Default is Off, no sharing. b. On (Read Only) permit other users to view all files except audio and video files. c. On (Read/Copy) permit other users to view and copy all files except audio and video files. d. On (Stream Video/Audio) permit other users to view and copy all types of files. Each time you set the On mode in b, c, or d, you will be also provided with a new share access code for other guest users to share your external storage device. The access code is valid as long as the external storage device is on and the Share Mode is not set to OFF. Note that the external storage device can be shared with other users for the same or different media files and at the same time; however, the access to the external storage device may be denied if the system determines access is overloaded and could cause lagging. Attention: the share mode is set to OFF each time you turn on and start the external storage device. Therefore, you must set the share mode to ON when you turn it on and want to share, even if the share mode was set to ON before the external storage device was turned off previously. General Settings: 1. Protected Files Passcode This is for changing your Protected Files passcode. 2. Auto Login This is to set auto login when ever SkyReader wants to access your Dropbox,
SkyDrive accounts, otherwise, you will be prompted for id and password each time. 3. Support This is for support contact should you need the technical assistance. 4. About This is to provide you with the SkyReader s version information and your Android mobile device s storage information.
Connecting to External Storage Device A. Connect as the owner With SkyReader, you can access files in your external storage device and manage them the same way as the local storage. To access the external storage device, you must have the following: 1. The SkyReader supported External Storage device hardware. 2. USB memory sticks and/or SD memory cards. Also, you must do the following setup: 1. Power on the external storage device, wait until the flashing power indicator light turns steady. 2. Enable Wi-Fi from the mobile device, and choose a Network named SkyReader_AP or the Wi-Fi name (SSID) you have setup, from your Android mobile device s settings. 3. If you want to access both the external storage device and cloud storage at the same time, please refer to the section on Connecting to both external storage device and internet. If you want to share your external storage device, from SkyReader s Settings, navigate to Settings->Share Mode, to configure the share mode to either ON (Read Only) or ON (Read/Copy). Once one of the ON mode is selected, the share access code for the external storage device is then automatically created for you to give it to other users. Please note that the access code is valid as long as the external storage device is on, and the Share Mode is not set to OFF. From the home screen, tap External Storage to access files in the external storage device, you will be promoted for the external storage device access code the first time you access it. B. Connect as a guest user With SkyReader, you can share access to files in an external storage device as a guest user, if the owner grant you with a share access code. To access the external storage device, you must do the following setup: 1. The owner must complete the section on Connect as the owner above, and you are given the share access code. 2. Enable Wi-Fi from the mobile device, and choose a Network named SkyReader_AP or the Wi-Fi name (SSID) of the external storage device, from your Android mobile device s settings. 3. From the home screen, tap External Storage, you will be prompted for the external storage device

Connecting to Both External Storage Device and Internet With SkyReader, you can access files in your external storage device, and at the same time access the files in the cloud storage, and/or the internet. To access them, you must do the following: 1. You must complete the section on Connect as the owner in the Connecting to External Storage Device. 2. From SkyReader s settings, navigate to Settings->Device Settings->Network Access and do one of the following setup, 2.1 or 2.2, according to your network connection. 2.1 Wired internet connection a. Under Network Access, select Wired, tap Next, SkyReader will attempt to connect to the internet. b. If the connection is successful then you are done with the setup. c. If it fails to connect, then you are presented with three wired connection types, DHCP, Static, or PPPoE. Select the one that applies to your network connection and tap Next to continue. d. For DHCP, SkyReader will attempt to connect to the network automatically. e. For Static, enter the detail connection information below, and tap Apply.
f. For PPPoE, enter the detail connection information below, and tap Apply. g. SkyReader will then attempt to connect to the internet using the chosen connection type. 2.2 Wireless internet connection Do one of the following to setup wireless connection to either a private or public network. Private Network a. Tap SkyReader icon from your Android mobile device. b. Tap SkyReader s settings and navigate to Settings->Device Settings->Network Access c. Select wireless and tap Next to continue. d. Select a network from the list that is available to you, enter the password, and then tap Join to join the network.
e. The external storage device will restart and then attempt to connect to the private network wirelessly, please wait until it is connected, SkyLink power LED will begin to flash with green and red. Public Network a. Tap SkyReader icon from your Android mobile device. b. Tap Settings icon and navigate to Settings->Device Settings->Network Access c. Select wireless and tap Next to continue. d. Select the public network (that you have previously registered to) from the available list, and tap Join to join the network. e. The external storage device will restart and then attempt to connect to the public network wirelessly, please wait until it is connected, SkyLink power LED will begin to flash with green and red. f. From your Android mobile device, navigate to the device s Wi-Fi settings to configure the Wi-Fi setting to the external storage device again as in section Connecting to External Storage Device. g. From your Android mobile device, open an internet browser (e.g. Chrome). h. Enter any URL link, you will be re-directed to the home page of the public network
automatically with a request for login ID and password. i. Enter your login ID and password given from your public network registration, and then tap the sign in button. j. If your ID and password are authenticated successfully, SkyReader will be able to access both the external storage device and the public network. k. Note that step g to j will not be necessary on the next login, if the ID and password are saved by the browser. Once the network connection is successful, from the home screen, you can then tap External Storage, or Cloud Storage to access the file source content, or you can browse the internet or use other internet application from your Android mobile device.
Connecting to Cloud Storage With SkyReader, you can access files in your Dropbox, Google Drive, SkyDrive accounts from the Cloud Storage and manage them the same way as the local storage. To access them, you must have the following: 1. Internet, wired/wireless connection. 2. Dropbox user account (to open an account, goto https://www.dropbox.com) 3. Google Drive user account (to open an account, goto https://accounts.google.com) 4. SkyDrive user account (to open an account, goto https://skydrive.live.com) Also, you must do the following setup: 1. If you do not want to use the External Storage at the same time, then do enable Wi-Fi, and choose a valid Network from your Android mobile device s settings. 2. If you want to access both the external storage device and cloud storage at the same time, please refer to the section on Connecting to both external storage device and internet. 3. Each time SkyReader access your Dropbox,SkyDrive accounts, you will be prompted to enter your account s e-mail address and password, unless you do the following setup: Navigate to Settings->Auto Login, and set Dropbox to ON Navigate to Settings->Auto Login, and set SkyDrive, and set SkyDrive to ON From the home screen, tap Cloud Storage, then select either Dropbox, Google Drive, or SkyDrive to access files in your Dropbox, Google Drive, or SkyDrive accounts.
