The administrator can add or remove users, see all files and folders, and make changes to the account. Multiple User Accounts Users are added by the administrator and can upload and download files and share links. Their privileges are managed by the administrator. Pogoplug Family comes with a total of 3 users, Pogoplug Family+ with 5, and Pogoplug Family Pro with 7. Free Companion Software Download our free companion software at Install on any computers you want to back up to your Pogoplug Family account for continuous, real-time backups of all your important files. 3

4 What s Included Free Mobile Apps Our free mobile apps for ipad, iphone and Android are available at the Apple App Store and Google Play. Back up the contents of your mobile devices to your Family account, and access and share files on the go. Offsite Cloud Storage Your Pogoplug device backs up all of your data to your home. Protect your critical files and precious memories from harm by archiving them in our cloud. If you lose a hard drive, you can easily recover all your content. Each Pogoplug Family account comes with 100GB of archive storage-- or you can upgrade to Family+ for 300GB or Family Pro for 1TB. Premium Support Pogoplug Family and Family+ come with access to our 24/7 hour support as well as live chat. With Family Pro you also receive phone support. 4

5 Setting Up Your Pogoplug Device 2. Setting Up Your Pogoplug Device To set up your Pogoplug device, first make sure you have a working Internet connection. Then go to for instructions on setting up your device. 1. Connect your Pogoplug to your router using the included Ethernet cable. 2. Plug the device into a wall socket or power supply. 3. Wait for a green light. (If you don t see a green light, try powering your device off and then back on. If you still don t see one, verify your Internet connection.) 4. Our activation wizard should detect your Pogoplug automatically. However, you may need to enter the device ID located on the bottom of the device. 5. Use the Family admin account you created when purchasing Pogoplug Family to register the device. 6. Attach a hard drive Now you re ready to start backing up! 6. 5

6 Back Up 3. Back Up Pogoplug works to safeguard your family s computers, smartphones and tablets even when you take them away from your home or office. Pogoplug Companion software and Pogoplug s mobile apps help you create easy backups of all your computers and mobile devices. These backups are automatic and occur in real time. You can rest easy knowing that your photos, documents and other important files are copied to your Pogoplug even when you re on the go. Backing Up Your Computers If you haven t done so already, download Pogoplug Companion (available at onto the computer(s) you would like to back up. Sign into your Pogoplug account on the welcome screen. 6

7 Back Up Pogoplug Companion will then request permission to start backing up your files. When you click Start, Pogoplug Companion software will automatically back up your Music, Movies, Pictures and Documents. In addition, you can choose to back up any other folders on your computer by clicking Add More. 7

8 Back Up You can also select a destination for each of your backups. These destinations can be anywhere in your Pogoplug account for example, a hard drive attached to your Pogoplug, a specific folder on that drive, even a folder that s been shared with you (provided you have Editor privileges to that folder). When you make changes to files or folders backed up with Pogoplug Companion like adding more pictures to a vacation album Pogoplug Companion will detect the changes and automatically back up these newly modified files. You can see your backed up files by signing into or in the Restore tab of Pogoplug Companion software. 8

9 Back Up Backing Up Your Mobile Device Pogoplug Family also lets you back up the photos and movies on your mobile device. Pogoplug s free mobile apps for ipad, iphone and Android are downloadable from the App Store or Google Play. Once you ve downloaded the app onto your phone, you can set up automatic backups for your camera s photos and videos by going to Settings > Automatic Upload. Whenever new content is added to your phone s or tablet s camera roll, it will back up automatically to your Pogoplug account. You can choose whether to allow these backups at all times (Wi-Fi and 3G) or only when you re on Wi-Fi. 9

10 Back Up You can also import files manually. Click the Camera button, choose Existing Photos or Videos and then select as many photos or videos as you want from your mobile s camera roll. Your backups will be uploaded to your Pogoplug Family account in a destination of your choice: your Pogoplug device or a shared Family folder. 10

11 4. Archive Your Pogoplug Family account comes with offsite cloud storage for archiving your most important files. In case of disaster, you ll be able to recover all of your critical files in just a few hours. Enabling Archives Once you ve backed up files from your computers and mobile devices to your Pogoplug account, you can enable archiving. Log into my.pogoplug.com and select the folder or drive you want to archive. Click Enable Archive. Folders you select for archiving will automatically and continuously back up to Pogoplug s secure cloud. If a fire, flood, or other disaster sends your hard drive offline, you can recover these backups. Restoring From Archive To restore files from your secure cloud storage, click on the Archive tab in your Pogoplug account. From there, select the folder or drive you want to recover and select Restore from Archive. You will be prompted to choose a destination folder in your Pogoplug account, or create a new folder. Restoring can take up to 5 hours. 11

Access Pogoplug works to protect your computers and devices even when you re away from your home or office, so you can afford to live adventurously Pogoplug will work behind the scenes to back up your important content the entire time. While you re out and about, here s how you can reach your files: 1. Sign into your Pogoplug Family account at my.pogoplug.com from any Web browser for full access to your files. Watch videos, view photo slideshows, and download or share anything in your account. 2. Access your content with our mobile apps. All the photos, music and movies in your Pogoplug account are available from your mobile device. You can also view common office file types like.pdf,.doc, and.xls good news if you need to refer to important files while you re away from your computer. 3. Restore with Pogoplug Companion in case of disaster. Losing your computer or phone can feel like the end of the world. But with Pogoplug Family, it doesn t have to be. If you lose your computer, you can recover everything you backed up to Pogoplug Companion using the Restore tab. Download Pogoplug Companion on your new computer, then select the files or folders you want to recover from the Restore tab. Click on Restore in the top toolbar (with the downward-pointing arrow) to export that content to your new computer. 12

13 Share 6. Share Parents have legitimate concerns about what they make public, and many don t want videos of their kids on social networking sites. With Pogoplug, you own your content, not the social networks. That s why Pogoplug Family lets you share securely with trusted friends and family. You can share your files and folders to as many people as you like using a secure link. Sharing files or folders does not count against your available family member accounts. First, hover over a file or folder you want to share. Click on the Share link to see Pogoplug s sharing menu. You can choose to share privately by ing a link to trusted friends and family, or post directly to Facebook, Twitter, or Google+ to share more publicly. 13

14 Share Use Options in the sharing menu to set permissions for your share links. Disable Link: Stop sharing your link. This will disable the share link for all users. Allow Uploads: If you are sharing a folder, you have the option to allow the people you share with to upload files. Allow Downloads: Select whether you want friends to be able to view only, or view and download the files you share. Display Social Sharing Options: Show Facebook, Twitter and Google+ icons on shared links for easy social sharing, or hide them for more private sharing. (The Assign Password feature is available only for Pogoplug Team accounts.) 14

15 Add Users to Pogplug Family 7. Add Users to Pogoplug Family Pogoplug Family lets you create separate accounts for up to seven family members. Once they have accounts, family members can enjoy all the benefits of Pogoplug, including the ability to back up, access and share their content from anywhere. To add users, create a folder for the user and select Add Users from the menu at the far right. Choose the permission level you would like for that user: User or Editor. A User can view, share and download files and folders, while Editors may also upload content to their account. Pogoplug Family s default setting for new users is Editor. If your family members do not already have Pogoplug accounts, they ll be prompted to create an account by simply entering a password. 15

16 Add Users to Pogplug Family Here are a few things your family members can do once they ve been added as users to your Pogoplug Family account: 1. Back up their computers with Pogoplug Companion at pogoplug.com/downloads. Your family members can install Pogoplug Companion on their own computers and set up continuous, real-time backups to their account. 2. Back up their mobile devices. Your family can back up photos or videos on their camera roll to their account using our free Pogoplug mobile apps. 3. Create their own folders in your Pogoplug Family account. Users with Editor permissions can upload folders of their own so mom and dad can back up vacation photos, kids can keep track of their homework assignments, and everybody in your family can create a space for backing up important files. 4. Access their files and share securely. Your family members can sign into their Pogoplug accounts from any Web browser or mobile device for full access to their files, photos, music and movies. They can also create share links to any files or folders within their account. 16
