Configuring NXT Hardware with Mercury Inside into Doors.NET TM Application Note

1 1.0 Installing the Mercury SCP Gateway The MSC/SCP gateway must be installed to interface with Mercury hardware. This gateway must be chosen during the installation of the software, or it can be added on later with a custom install. The following covers both scenarios. 1) Insert the Doors.Net CD in the CD drive and wait for the autorun menu to appear. If it does not appear, go to My Computer, or Start, then Computer in later version of Microsoft Windows, and double click on the CDROM icon, then on autorun.exe. 2) In the autorun menu, click on Install Software. The install will prompt the installer to stop existing Doors.Net services if this is to add a component to previously installed Doors.Net software, stop services and continue if this pop-up appears. 3) Select Custom Install when prompted. 4) Ensure that the Gateway SCP is selected along with all other previously installed software components if any, or components a new installer wishes to choose. 1 of Rev. 2 5) Continue with installation until completed. 6) The installer will be prompted to restart the PC. 2.0 Licensing For Mercury Inside Hardware in Doors.Net Doors.Net must be licensed to accept Mercury Inside hardware after installation of the gateway. A Doors.Net license upgrade is achieved by calling Keri Systems inside sales department or by contacting your local Keri representative for details. To enable the license, an Internet connection is required, or again by calling Keri Systems to enable the license via . 1) The sales department must get the current license from the software. This can be found on your Doors.Net CD case. If Doors.Net was installed from a download, Keri s inside sales must be contacted to acquire a license. If the license has been entered previously, it can be found in Start, Programs, Doors.Net and License Manger. The license can be found at the bottom of the License Manager under License Key. 2) Once the license upgrade is performed by sales, run the License Manger by clicking on Start, Programs, Doors.Net, License Manger. 3) Highlight Application Server under the Installed Components window. 2 of Rev. 3 4) Click on the Activate button below the license code box and await a response that the license upgrade has been accepted stating, Thank you for registering. 3 of Rev. A

4 Click Yes to restart the gateway service when prompted. 5) View in the License Manger that the gateway is currently licensed by clicking on the license tab, scrolling down to the Supported Hardware section and confirm that the Keri Systems NXT (MSC) is set to True. It is not required for Mercury Security SCP Series to be enabled in the License Manager for Mercury Inside NXT hardware to function. 3.0 Resetting a Mercury Inside NXT Controller A Mercury Inside NXT control panel may have to be reset after shipping and after handling the panel during installation if communication becomes a problem. The steps to reset the panel are below. It is important to note that Mercury Inside control panels can ONLY acquire their TCP/IP address through DHCP. 1) The NXT panel must be plugged into a network LAN that has DHCP enabled prior to a reset. Without this, the panel cannot attain an IP address and cannot be initialized in Doors.Net. 4 of Rev. A

5 2) With power already applied to the panel, ensure that the J3 jumper is shorted, press and release the S1 button until the D49, or Mode LED is lit green. 3) While the D49 LED is still lit, quickly pull power. 4) Press and hold the S1 button, apply power and release S1 button about second or two after power up. 5) The panel will take about 30 seconds to fully reset after that. DO NOT interrupt the reset process to avoid possible corruption and damage to the firmware. 6) After the reset is finished the RS-485 indicator LEDs (D1, D6, D11, D16) will all stay lit solid green. The RST or D48 LED will blink red on and off continually. This is a normal reset state indicating the panel is now ready to be initialized into Doors.Net. These LED conditions will change after the panel is communicating with Doors.Net. 4.0 Configuring the MSC/SCP Gateway using the Gateway Wizard 1) Open the Gateway Wizard in Windows by clicking on Start, Programs, Doors.Net and Gateway Wizard. 2) Select the MSC/SCP Gateway in the Gateway Selection dropdown box. Note that there may be more than one type of gateway to select in the dropdown box depending on the system installed and licensing 3) Login using a Doors.Net administrator user name and password (Default is admin/admin) and click on, Connect. 4) Type in the name you want to give your gateway in the, Description box, leave the default controller box set to None and click Add Gateway. 5 of Rev. 6 5) Highlight the gateway now in the Existing Gateways box to the left then click next. 6) Click finish and restart the gateway service when the pop up prompts to do so. 6 of Rev. A

7 Note: if the Doors.Net software is licensed for one admin client, the Doors.Net client will have to be closed before the Gateway Wizard will run. 5.0 Initializing Mercury Inside Controllers using the MSC/SCP Gateway Scan 1) Download and Install Bonjour Print Services from Apple.com under support. This allows our discovery program to find Mercury Inside panels on the LAN. 2) Open the Keri Admin Client and log in. 3) Click on Setup, the Hardware Setup icon and then the All tab. 4) Right click on the Mercury Gateway icon and select Scan Network to find available Mercury Inside NXT panels on the local network LAN. 7 of Rev. 8 5) Select a panel for import and click on the, Import button and allow a moment for the command to complete. 6) Click on Setup, the Hardware Setup icon and then the All tab again and confirm the panel is indeed migrated to the hardware tree and is online. 7) 4x4s can be added to each bus by clicking on the bus in the hardware tree to highlight it and clicking on the 4x4 icon above. The 4x4 will then automatically connect to the NXT controller s bus. 8 of Rev. A

9 Note: If the Mercury panel appears to be online in the controller s properties page, yet is not responding to commands, it may be necessary to right click on the controller in the hardware tree and select Reset, then Memory. Any corruption in memory will be cleared and communication can resume. On rare occasions, the gateway service may have to be restarted before connection can be established. 6.0 Initializing Mercury Inside Controllers Manually 1) Resetting the Mercury Inside NXT hardware and configuring the gateway using the Gateway Wizard steps above remain the same. 2) Click on Setup, the Hardware Setup icon, then the All tab. 9 of Rev. 10 3) Click on the Mercury Gateway to highlight and hardware icons will appear on the above ribbon. 4) Select the appropriate hardware such as, NXT-2D MSC for a two-door controller, NXT- 4D MSC for a four-door controller. 5) Once you click on the hardware, it will appear in the hardware tree below. 10 of Rev. 11 6) To check connection type to the panel is correct, double-click on the Communication Channels icon just under the Gateway icon and click on the New Controller 1 icon. View the properties. 7) Ensure connection under the Communication Channels tree Enabled is set to True. 11 of Rev. A

12 8) Highlight the controllers and view its properties in the right hand window. You will need to login to see advanced feature by going to the View tab and clicking on the Advanced View icon. 9) Click on the small advanced view icon in the controller s properties page and look for the IP address and MAC address fields. These values will have to be entered manually. 10) Download and Install Bonjour Print Services from Apple.com under support. This allows our discovery program to find Mercury Inside panels on the LAN. 11) To search for the address DHCP assigned to the controller and its MAC address, navigate to C:\Keri\DoorsNET\ZeroConfNetworkBrowswer.exe and open it. 12 of Rev. 13 12) Once open, select, Mercury Security Controllers with Detail then click the Scan button. This will scan your local LAN for available Mercury Inside NXT hardware and display both the IP addresses and MAC addresses of controllers found by the ZeroConfNetworkBrowswer.exe. 13) Enter the MAC address and IP address in the appropriate fields in the properties page in Doors.Net of the selected controller and save. 13 of Rev. 14 14) Highlight the controllers in the hardware tree and view the controller s properties page to the right. The communications status is the first entry under Misc and will read either Online or Offline. If this reads Online, the panel is now communicating with Doors.Net. Note: If the Mercury panel appears to be online in the controller s properties page, yet is not responding to commands, it may be necessary to right click on the controller in the hardware tree and select Reset, then Memory. Any corruption in memory will be cleared and communication can resume. 7.0 Setting a Static IP address A static IP will ensure that the Mercury Inside control panel will not inadvertently capture a different IP address on a network using DHCP. There are several ways to login to Mercury Inside controller s firmware to set a static IP address, this is one. 1) In the controller s hardware tree under Hardware Setup and the All tab, right click on the controller s icon and choose Browse. The following screen will appear. 14 of Rev. A

15 2) Click on, Click here to Login. 3) You may get a security popup at this point. Select all options to allow this connection. 4) Login using, Admin as the user name, then Password as the password and click the Login button. OK any pop-ups that might occur. 5) On the left hand pane, click on Network. 6) Select Use Static IP Configuration and then fill out anything necessary that is not already present, such as Default Gateway or DNS configurations that are not used in most basic installations. 15 of Rev. 16 7) Click Apply Settings, then click the Apply Settings, Reboot button 8) Allow 30 seconds for the panel to fully come back online. Notes: An Internet browser can also be used to log into Mercury Inside controllers. Simply type the IP address of the Mercury Inside control panel in the URL window of the browser and hit enter. More security popup windows may occur doing this. Use whatever settings are necessary to allow this connection. Then follow steps 2 through 8 above. If the panel ever has to be ram-reset, the controller will default to DHCP. The controller can possibly obtain a different IP address from the IP address last assigned to the controller. It will be necessary to again scan the network for the panel using the ZeroConfNetworkBrowser.exe. 16 of Rev. A

17 Using the Set Static IP Address instructions above, use the IP address that is currently assigned by DHCP to the controller to login to the controller s firmware. Reset the static IP address back to the controller s original IP address so it matches the IP address in the controller s properties page in Doors.Net. Make sure to apply all changes.
