Sftware Update Ntificatin PSS0223-02 Mastersizer 3000 v1.01 sftware Abstract This dcument details the release f sftware PSS0223-02 v1.01 f the sftware fr the Mastersizer 3000 laser diffractin system. It cvers sftware issues fixed and new features intrduced. This infrmatin is required t perfrm a risk analysis t determine if the sftware shuld be installed. In this risk analysis the benefits f the new features prvided and reslved sftware issues must be weighed against the risk f new issues that may be intrduced t vital areas f the sftware r pssible changes t the results f future analysis. Installatin instructins are prvided. Installatin It is assumed that yu have authrity t install r update sftware within yur facility. It is als assumed that yu have Administratr rights fr the system upn which the sftware is installed, as this is a requirement f the installatin prcess. If yu d nt have this authrity please cnsult with yur I.T. supprt department befre prceeding. Minimum System Requirements The minimum requirements fr running this sftware are highlighted in table 1. Windws 7 is therefre the preferred perating system. Installatin Instructins The sftware suite cmes n an aut-lading CD-ROM. Inserting the drive int a system cnfigured t Aut-run a CD will run the installatin prgram autmatically. Nte: Any firmware updates required fr yur system will be installed at the same time as the sftware. It is imprtant t keep the firmware and sftware in sync, since this is the cnfiguratin that will have been tested by Malvern Instruments prir t release f the sftware. Installing the Malvern Access Cnfiguratr (MAC) Applicatin The sftware suite includes a cpy f the Malvern Access Cnfiguratr tl that allws yu t manage the security aspects f the Mastersizer 3000. The MAC sftware may be installed either n the PC used t cntrl the instrument r a separate netwrked PC. Installing n a separate PC allws yu t manage the security centrally. Nte: The MAC sftware des nt aut-install. T install this sftware, navigate t the \Malvern Access Cnfiguratr flder and run the setup.exe file. Uninstall Prcedure The sftware can be uninstalled using the standard Add/Remve Prgrams feature in the Windws Cntrl Panel. Sftware Licence Files The Mastersizer 3000 sftware requires a valid licence file t run. When cnnected t an instrument, the system autmatically generates this file and the user will be asked t accept the licence. Nte: If yu wish t install the Mastersizer 3000 sftware n additinal cmputers, yu will need t fllw the prcedure belw fr sharing a sftware licence. Sharing a licence In rder t enable the use f the Mastersizer 3000 n a cmputer which is nt cnnected t a system, it is necessary fr users t create a license. This can then be shared with ther users, allwing them t gain access t the sftware. T share a licence, fllw the steps belw: 1. At the PC that is cnnected t the instrument, run the Mastersizer 3000 sftware and click n the Applicatin Menu icn at the tp left f the screen. 2. Select Abut and click n the View Licence.. buttn. 3. Click n the Share this Licence.. buttn. The system tells yu what infrmatin the licence file cntains. 4. T accept that infrmatin click Yes and chse a lcatin t cpy the file t (e.g. a memry stick). 5. At the separate PC, install the Mastersizer 3000 sftware frm the CD and start the prgram. At the licence screen, click the Install buttn. 6. Brwse t the flder that cntains the licence file frm step 4 abve, and select the licence file. Nte: The sftware licence is specific t a given Mastersizer 3000 system. When a licence is shared, detailed user and cmputer infrmatin is stred in the licence file, ensuring it can be traced back t its surce Mastersizer 3000 system. Users shuld nly share the licence with users within their rganisatins wh need t analyse data ff-line. The sftware licence shuld nt be shared with ther rganisatins wh d nt wn a Mastersizer 3000 system withut the cnsent f Malvern Instruments. New Features This is the first release f the Mastersizer 3000 sftware. Please refer t the sftware help system and user manuals fr infrmatin regarding the sftware s peratin. Fixed Issues The main issues fixed in this release f the Mastersizer 3000 sftware are listed belw. Issue When enabling ultrasund, the stp buttn des nt enable until 8 secnds have passed. When changes are made t an SOP, these are nt saved crrectly. Pressing stp during a dry measurement des nt stp the sample feed. If a measurement file pened, then clsed, and then re-pened again, it pens it as read nly file. The sftware des nt reprt the current state f the drain valve, nly the last requested state. The sftware smetimes reprts dry pwder feed rates f greater than 100% The dry clean sequence desn't perate crrectly, and can crash the sftware. Hydr unit clean sequence ccasinally fails with a message stating that the tank did nt fill in time, even when n errr has ccurred. Print features are nt available until the recrd view selectin changes at least twice Lcalisatin prblems in the German language sftware, related t the handling f different decimal separatrs. User sizes incrrectly displayed in Oversize and Undersize result tables Stirrer speed drps t 500rpm after filling n the first run f an SOP, independent f the selected stirrer speed in the SOP settings. Incrrect data exprt frmatting with mixed language and regin settings Aer S sample feed starts as sn as an SOP is pened. Sftware crashes when editing, cpying r pasting recrds See knw issue descriptin belw. Recrd numbering isn t crrect after editing a recrd r cpying and pasting recrds between files. The Cntact Malvern feature in the Maintenance windw causes the sftware t crash r displays a message abut the wrng parameter frmat being used. Use the wrk-arunds described belw fr the editing, cpying and pasting issue. Manually email the maintenance reprt text file t helpdesk@malvern.cm if supprt is required. The active accessry is nt always changed when the changing between wet and dry cells. See knw issue descriptin belw. The stirrer is left running at a different speed t the last demand speed fllwing a clean peratin. Measurement cntinues when the Hydr EV dispersin head is raised during a measurement. Reprts ccasinally appear blank r empty even when the recrd selectin in the Recrds View changes. Sample dcumentatin windw ccasinally appears behind the main measurement manager windw when repeating an SOP after the clean step has cmpleted, making it lk like the measurement has stpped wrking. Manually set the accessry stirrer speed using the Tls-Accessries cntrl dialgue. D nt raise the Hydr EV dispersin head nce the backgrund measurement begins. Adjust the reprt zm slider in the bttm right-hand crner f the reprt windw t refresh the display. Clse the measurement manager windw and then clse the dcumentatin windw that will nw be visible. Start the SOP again using the Run SOP buttn. Active accessry des nt change when switching between wet and dry measurement cells Smetimes, the sftware des nt select the crrect accessry when users insert the measurement cell int the instrument bench. If this ccurs, users shuld manually select the accessry by clicking n the accessry icn in the status bar f the main sftware windw. Sftware crashes when editing, cpying r pasting recrds. There have been sme instances where recrd view functins such as cpying, pasting and editing recrds causes the sftware t crash. The Malvern sftware team are wrking n a general fix t these issues. In the meantime, if crashes are bserved, it is recmmended that Recrd Gruping is disabled within the sftware ptins: This frces edited versin f recrds t be displayed n a separate rw in the recrds view, in the same way as the Mastersizer 2000 sftware. In additin, the sftware may becme mre stable by dcking the Reprts tab behind the Recrds View tab. Backward Cmpatibility This is the first release f the sftware which supprts the new Mastersizer 3000 system (MAZ3000). This sftware is nly cmpatible with this system, and cannt be used with the Mastersizer 2000 (APA2000) system. It is pssible, hwever, t review Mastersizer 2000 results within the Mastersizer 3000 sftware. Please refer t the user manuals and sftware help fr guidance as t hw this is achieved. Cleaning-up previus pre-beta versins If previus pre-beta versins f the sftware have been in installed n yur cmputer, we recmmend that the fllwing steps are used t ensure that the installatin cmpletes successfully and all files are up t date: Open Windws Explrer. Navigate t the shared Malvern Instruments applicatin data flder.
