Tolland Family Resource Center Newsletter BUILDING STRONG FAMILIES Welcome back to all! What a wonderful summer it was. Our campers had an amazing summer experience at our new camp location at the Tolland Intermediate School, TIS. They took full advantage of being able to walk to Crandell s Park where they were able to play games on the field and on the playground, fish in the pond and explore the hiking trails. They were able to walk to the Community Youth Garden. Some enjoyed archery. They enjoyed many summer library programs and weekly visits with Mrs. B. Their weeks included great theme based field trip adventures and a weekly swimming trip. They had fun with Guru Todd and formed a camp government. PARENTS you can be VERY proud of your children, I have heard compliments from parents, staff, administrators, bus drivers and from fieldtrip facilitators. Special thanks to our wonderful summer staff, Carol Hiller, Beverly Vaida, Dawn Withum, Trish Morse, Rod Wilson, Pam Bouley, Deb Sirici, Hanna Schmitz, Brianna Schnell, Justin Mulkin and Kim Mulkin. They are aware of language first in its non-verbal form, then in its verbal form. A child s whole world is shaped by the language s/he acquires, the information s/he understands from the environment and the words s/he uses to organize his/her thoughts and express him/herself. Language is vital to thinking and succeeding in this world. 3:30-5:30 pm Autism Spectrum Disorder: Understanding what it is and knowing what to do in the Early Childhood Setting Designed for Early Childhood Educators and Teachers. 5:30-7:30 pm Setting the Limits Setting the Tone The need to create a positive and supportive community during childhood is great for both children and the adults in their lives. Children feel more secure when they know their parents and teachers will set, define and enforce standards for appropriate behavior. In addition they feel safe in structured environments that have clearly defined expectations for all. Join us for an evening filled with helpful hints, worthwhile tips and a few good laughs. This year we will be offering additional enrichment activities for preschoolers 3 afternoons a week. We are offering preschool Spanish on Tuesdays, 1:30-3:00, a Music Together Family
