2 Spring 2015 Dear prospective students and parents/guardians, Thank you for your interest in the Caney Creek High School Accelerated College program in partnership with Lone Star College Montgomery. We are excited about the new school year and we are expecting great things from our students. The Accelerated College program provides high school students the opportunity to earn an Associate s degree and/or up to two years of transferable college credit while still in high school. Students who are interested in the Accelerated College High School initiative must: Be a freshman at Caney Creek High School Meet the college level placement test requirements prior to applying for the Accelerated College program. Maintain a high school GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or have Principal/Counselor approval) We believe that academic rigor, coupled with savings in time, reduced tuition, and a supportive environment can motivate students to work hard and meet serious academic challenges. Students who are accepted to the program will have the opportunity to earn up to 60 college semester credit hours of coursework by the time they graduate high school. Please read through the application steps thoroughly. It is important that it is completed entirely and accurately. The deadline for incoming freshmen to submit an application is: Friday May 15, 2015 Applications should be turned in to the Counselor at Moorhead or to CCHS Accelerated College Coordinator, Cindy Horn. Please be sure to meet this deadline because late or incomplete applications will not be reviewed. 3 APPLICATION PROCESS BEGINS DURING THE EIGHTH GRADE YEAR The following admission checklist will help guide you through the Accelerated College application process: 1. Complete the Accelerated College Application 2. Complete the Parent Statement form. 3. Complete the Student Statement form. 4. Obtain a recommendation from your English teacher. 5. Obtain a recommendation from your Math teacher. 6. Obtain a recommendation from your Counselor. RETURN your complete application packet to your counselor or Mrs. Cindy Horn (AC Coordinator) in the room 1103 NO LATER THAN 3:00 PM ON FRIDAY, May 15, All documents must be included. IMPORTANT REMINDERS: Read the entire application carefully BEFORE completing any information. Remember to SIGN all parts of the application. Make sure that a PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN SIGNS in the parent section of the application. DO NOT WAIT until the last minute to complete the application. Students will find out if they are accepted to the program by June 1, 2015 after all applications are received and reviewed. 4 LONE STAR COLLEGE- MONTGOMERY PLACEMENT TESTING All students who are entering the Accelerated College program must demonstrate college readiness by receiving high scores on a Lone Star College System approved test. Students who are accepted to this program will have to have test scores that meet the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) criterion to take college level courses at Lone Star. This testing will most likely be offered in the fall of 2015 at CCHS after regular school hours. TSI College Ready scores students must earn a passing score on both the reading and writing portions of the TSI Exam in order to enter the Accelerated College program. Mathematics -350 Students must pass this portion of the TSI prior to enrolling in DC College Algebra Reading -351 Writing Essay Score of 5; Essay Score of 4 and Multiple Choice of 363 For more information about the TSI Exam please examine the following web link: 4

Some changes can be made as deemed appropriate by the CCHS Counselor and Lone Star College Advisor. *Note: It is highly recommended, but not required that all core classes not taken as dual credit be taken at the Pre AP or AP level.
