An Investment with Benefits Dual Credit is a rigorous academic course plan offered at the post-secondary level and is NOT comparable to AP or IB
Course Selection Course Selection is done in conjunction with your school counselor Professors course schedules vary from semester to semester.
An Investment with Benefits 2nd Benefit: Transferable Courses The State of Texas Senate Bill 148 requires each institution of higher education to adopt a Core Curriculum of up to 48 hours of college. This core of classes can be transferred in block to any state college/university in Texas to be substituted for the core of the receiving institution. Tarrant County College has implemented the 46- hour transferable core curriculum. Dual Credit courses are recognized in the state of Texas (both public and private colleges and universities). 15 An Investment with Benefits 4th Benefit: Complete Access to all TCC-SE services Career and Employment Services Counseling & Testing Services Financial Aid Services Library State of the art computer labs Student Activities Use of the physical fitness facilities
How to be successful High School Class vs. College Class College Classes: Independent Learner Student Responsibility (accountability) Communication with professor Involvement in extra curricular activities does not excuse the student from course responsibilities. To be UIL eligible, a student must receive a 60 or higher by the 6 week report card. TCC grades are not included in the High School GPA. Syllabus outlines configuration of grades. The syllabus is the contract with the instructor. Students taking a 3-semester hour class should set aside a minimum of 6 hours per week to study. This is the beginning of their first college transcript.
Dual Credit Restrictions Dual Credit students must meet course prerequisite requirements before enrolling in classes. Students may enroll in up to two Dual Credit courses per semester. Students are required to make a TCC grade of C or better in all courses to continue in the Dual Credit Program. Student may not drop a Dual Credit course without permission from the high school counselor. It is the students responsibility to notify his/her counselor.
How to enroll? 1) The student must have a B or better average upon completion of Sophomore year. Only Juniors and Seniors are eligible for dual credit courses. 2) Fill out a Request for Testing form and turn it in to the counselor for approval. 3) ACCUPLACER Testing will take place on the high school campus in early spring. The ACCUPLACER test is the approved test used by educational institutions to assist in determining if a student is prepared for a college-level courses and to aid institutions in making course placement decisions. The reading and writing portion of the ACCUPLACER test will be the only portions administered during testing. TAKS scores will not be considered for placement in Dual Credit classes. Practice tests are available online at: Collegeboard.com/student/testing/accuplacer 4) Immediately following the test, the student will receive results to go over with their counselor as to what classes they are eligible for, if needed re-test information will be given. TCC pays for the first 2 testing attempts, additional testing requires a fee of $11.
Required Documents 1) Once the student qualifies after testing, they will be given: TCC application; Social Security number and citizenship status will be required. An Early High School Enrollment form to be filled out and signed by the counselor for approval. 2) An official copy of the high school transcript should be requested from the counselor or campus registrar. 4) The Student will be given a date when the TCC Coordinator will be at the school to pick up paperwork.
Disability Support Services (DSS) If students require ANY form of accommodation please notify the counselor or Dual Credit Coordinator to fill out a TCC-DSS packet. TCC does not follow High School accommodations, all paperwork submitted will go through our DSS department and accommodations will be given through TCC. Contact #: (817)
