What is College Credit Plus? This new dual-enrollment program, signed into law on June 16, 2014 by the governor, replaces Ohio s Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) and Dual Enrollment programs. It is a more expansive opportunity for students to earn college credit while still in high school.

College Credit Plus (CCP) Replaces PSEO and Dual Enrollment Students earn transcripted college and high school credit concurrently upon completion Available in the building at Louisville High School, on a college campus, or online

Requires two fundamental conditions - Student must be enrolled in both college and high school - Student to earn transcripted college and high school credit upon successful completion of the course Students must take a combined minimum of 5 academic classes per semester

Opportunity to Earn College Credit Grades 7 12 For college-ready students Public colleges are free (KSU: Stark, Stark State College) Private colleges may include small cost (Malone, Walsh, Mount Union, Aultman)

College-Readiness determined by college. Louisville High School does not determine whether a student is accepted.

Apply and Get Admitted Participate by getting admitted into a college. Different colleges have different criteria. Students may need a minimum GPA, ACT /SAT score, or a required Compass placement test score.

Students and parents are responsible for actively pursuing the appropriate counseling services at the college to discuss admission and courses. Responsibility for transportation rests with the student. Colleges will provide guidance for admission requirements and course selection. They are also the contact if there is an issue on the college campus.

LHS will provide guidance for College Credit Plus as it applies to graduation requirements. LHS will not alter the Master Schedule to accommodate College Credit Plus students. If possible, we will adjust individual schedules. It is best to schedule college classes early or late in the day on campus.

Student Choice Students can choose any course that applies toward a degree or workforce certification at a public (or participating private) college.

Graduate with College Credit Earn up to 30 college credit hours per academic year; summer not included. No more than 120 college credit hours while in the program.

Find the College and Courses that Fit Students have options LHS offers 15 and 30 credit hour pathways in the school building. Pathways are courses to help you choose, not obligate you.

LHS Pathways 15 Credit Hour Pathway (16 hours through Stark State College taught at Louisville High School) Physics 1 Physics 2 Pre-Calculus A Pre-Calculus B Effective Speaking 4 hrs 4 hrs 2.5 hrs 2.5 hrs 3 hrs

30 Credit Hour Pathway (32 hours through Stark State College taught at Louisville High School) Physics 1 4 hrs Physics 2 4 hrs General Chemistry 1 5 hrs General Chemistry 2 5 hrs Pre-Calculus A 2.5 hrs Pre-Calculus B 2.5 hrs Effective Speaking 3 hrs College Composition 1 3 hrs College Composition 2 3 hrs

A semester college course of 3 or more credit hours counts as a one-year high school class.

Under what scenarios can a qualified student use College Credit Plus?

Take college courses to satisfy your high school graduation requirements. Take additional core course work beyond the high school curriculum on the college level. Explore college and take a course in a subject that interests you to help decide on a future college major.

Books and Fees Students attending a public college do not pay for either books or fees. Students attending a private college may have a cost that includes books and fees.

Student Covers Parking Expenses

Consider Your Future Academic Goals With College Credit Plus

Things to Consider The college/university you attend after high school has the final say of what courses are accepted for degree course requirements. It is your responsibility to contact the college admission office to verify. It is strongly recommended that the student keep each course syllabus and obtain a college transcript at the end of each academic year to verify college credit.

All College Credit Plus courses taught at Louisville High School are Transfer Assurance Guide (TAG) courses and can be transferred seamlessly to any state school in Ohio. Transferring of credits from a state college/ university to a private college/university sometimes only counts for elective credit and does not apply directly toward degree requirements.

If you fail a college class or drop it, you will have to pay for the entire cost. The failing grade will also appear on your high school and college transcript.

Benefits of College Credit Plus Early exposure to college curriculum Earn college credit while still in high school In-depth study of special interests Expanded curriculum

Financial support provided Ideal for students who plan to continue their education at that college after high school graduation Learn the ins and outs of college processes to help in your freshman year transition Expanded and diverse curriculum options

Risks of College Credit Plus Impressionable students will be in a nonstructured college setting with much older students College courses may prematurely increase student responsibility for learning and time management Remedial courses do not qualify for credit or school district payment

Course rigor may be too difficult a transition from the high school curriculum in a particular course If a student does poorly in a College Credit Plus course, there could be negative effects on GPA and participation in graduation There is a low success rate with high school students taking online courses Students/Parents are responsible for their own transportation

Weighted Grades College courses will be weighted the same as Advanced Placement in the same subject area. (i.e. AP Psychology and KSU Stark: General Psychology) AP Course College Course

Deadline to Apply: By April 1, you must notify us if you intend to participate next year. This is done by signing the Intent Form after the presentation, but doesn t obligate you to participate in College Credit Plus.

Steps to Follow 1. Complete the Individual Counseling/Intent to Participate Form. Turn in to guidance counselor after the meeting. The administration will sign and return to you in a few days. 2. Obtain and complete the necessary college application of your choice. If you wish to take any college classes in the school building, you must apply to Stark State College as well.

3. Request a transcript from Mrs. Lutz, Guidance Secretary, to be sent to your college(s) of choice. 4. Once you have been accepted by your college and your schedule has been completed, YOU MUST provide Mr. Saltsman with a copy of your schedule. It is also your responsibility to notify Mr. Saltsman of any changes that are made to your CCP schedule throughout the year.
