2 NURSING PROGRAMS IVCC offers an Associates degree in Nursing (RN) and a Certificate in Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) Both programs are limited admission and very competitive. Students who have the minimum requirements for admission are not guaranteed admission i For the Fall of 2013, we are admitting 80 students. The total number of RN and LPN students for Fall 2013 is subject to departmental review. We currently accept 60 RN s and 20 LPN s

3 TIMELINE FALL 2013 Letter of intent: February 19, 2013 March 18, 2013 Documents due: May 1, 2013 Pre nursing assessment: April 2013 Notification: May 2013(after final grades posted for spring) Registration June 2013

4 DOCUMENTS TO BE SUBMITTED The following documents must be received by the Office of Admissions and Records prior to the posted deadline: Official High School Transcripts Official GED Scores (if applicable) Official College Transcripts from all institutions attended (IVCC request for evaluation of transcripts form completed) Placement Test Completion Certified Nurses Aid (CNA) Proof of Certification or Enrollment

5 PROOF OF RESIDENCY Students must provide proof of residency as part of their file completion Students should be able to provide one or more of the following: Voter registration in District Evidence of tax, utility or rent receipts in District 513 Driver's license and/or vehicle registration showing an address in District Other documents which can help verify residency in District 513 A student who resides with his or her parents or guardian in Community College District 513 is a resident student.

6 RESIDENCY Preference is given to those applicants who are legal residents of IVCC district #513 Due to the competitiveness of the nursing program, we have not been able to admit out of district applicants in recent years Residency is defined as living in IVCC s district #513 for 30 days prior to submitting your Letter of Intent Dual admissions agreements do not imply residency for limited admissions programs If a student works full time at an in district health care provider, they will be considered district residents

7 SELECTING A PROGRAM Students will be allowed to apply for both the RN and the LPN programs and indicate a preference Students should discuss their hi options with ih a Counselor LPN students who wish to return as RN s for Advanced Placement must meet the following criteria: Employment for a minimum of one year All RN general education courses complete In good standing with the college and the RN program Students applying will be rank ordered based on GPA and date of Advanced Placement request

8 Your counselor will evaluate where you are and provide you with information to assist you in planning your coursework.

9 ADMISSIONS CRITERIA Students will be ranked and admitted based on the sum of the following: Completion Points for the five core courses Five Core Course Grade Points Weighted scores on the Pre Nursing Assessment Scores will be totaled and ranked i l

10 COMPLETION POINTS For both RN and LPN programs: Students will receive 4 points for each of the following classes completed at the time of evaluation: BIO 1007, BIO 1008, BIO 1009, ALH 1000 and ALH 1002 A Minimum grade of C required Students will be limited to 2 attempts on the five core courses (including withdrawals) which must be completed within 7 years Most recent letter grade on both attempts will be used in the calculation of the nursing formula score total Maximum 20 points

11 CORE COURSE GRADE POINTS For both RN and LPN programs: Grade points for: BIO 1007, BIO 1008 and BIO 1009, ALH 1000 and ALH 1002 divided by 2.5 A Minimum grade of C required Students will be limited to 2 attempts on the five core courses (including withdrawals) which must be completed within 7 years The most recent letter grade on both attempts will be used in the calculation of the nursing formula score total Maximum points

12 PRE NURSING ASSESSMENT EXAM Students will take a pre nursing entrance exam Fall 2013 Health Education Services, Inc. (A2 HESI Exam) All students will take the exam in April in the IVCC Assessment Center on the Main Campus Students must pay the cashier for the test before they will be able to take the test (estimated cost of $32) The A2 HESI is a standardized test based on content area scored in grammar, vocabulary, anatomy, math, and reading comprehension The A2 HESI test may be taken only one time per year Maximum of 24 points

13 STANDBY LIST Students who apply and who meet the minimum requirements but are not admitted are added to a Standby List If an opening occurs, students are offered admission to the program based on their Standby List number If you apply for both the RN and the LPN programs and you are admitted to the program that is not your preference, you will be placed on the Standby List for your preferred program

14 ADDITIONAL COURSEWORK The Gen Eds Students also must complete certain general education courses as part of the degree (RN) or certificate program (LPN) It is highly recommended that these be completed before beginning the program to maximize performance A minimum grade of C is required for: RN ENG 1001, ENG 1002, PSY 1000, SOC 1000 LPN ENG 1001 and PSY 1000 ALH 1001, SFC 1000, and BIO 1200 are strongly recommended Students who fail to complete all the general education courses by the point of graduation will not be allowed to take the National Council of Licensure Examination (NCLEX) or graduate with their class

15 PLACEMENT REQUIREMENTS Placement testing is required in English, Reading and Mathematics (unless you have completed or transferred in the appropriate courses from another college or university) Information on placement testing can be found at or All students must complete up to and including or test t out of the following coursework: MTH 0906, RED 1008, ENG 0900 and/or ENG0909 Initial Placement testing is free. There is a nominal cost to re take any portion of the test

16 Certified Nurses Aide CNA COMPLETION Proof of current IL certification is required The CNA class ALH 1214 must be completed by Spring semester prior to first nursing course Illinois Department of Public Health CNA Registry Website: bit or to verify your state registry status and determine if you are active or inactive

17 CNA COMPLETION If your CNA certification is older than three years at the time of evaluation, proof of hours worked (1020) during last three years must be submitted Hours must be documented d from employer Students who have not worked 1020 hours in the last three years and are listed on the CNA registry can take the CNA refresher course (ALH 1215 must be completed by Spring semester prior to first nursing course) Students who have not worked 1020 hours in the last 3 years and are not located on the CNA registry must retake the CNA course (ALH 1214) Hours must verify performance of 21 basic CNA skills. CNA s CNAs in nursing homes and hospitals traditionally meet this requirement. Home care and doctor s offices traditionally do not

18 DRUG TESTING REQUIREMENT All admitted students will be required to pass a drug test Failure to undergo or pass the drug test will result in dismissal from the program Students are responsible for paying the fee for the test
