5. Texas Success Initiative (TSI) The TSI is designed to measure competency in reading, writing, and mathematics. It is used for placement purposes. Students must be at college level in reading and writing for the majority of courses. See the college catalog for placement and prerequisite information.
TSI Exemptions (Juniors & Seniors) Exemption Scores (minimum scores listed): Test Combined/Composite Requirement Exempts TSI Reading & Writing Exempts TSI Math SAT I ACT STAAR EOC exam Combined Reading and Math: 1070 Composite: 23 N/A Reading: 500 English: 19 Level 2 English III: 2000 in Writing and 2000 in Reading ACT/SAT scores must be sent from the testing source directly to Collin College if not provided on your HS transcript Math: 500 Math: 19 Level 2 Algebra II: 4000 STAAR scores will be on your high school transcript if applicable Partial exemptions allowed provided that the required combined/composite score is met

TSI Waivers (Juniors ONLY) For Junior level enrollment, students must have earned a waiver only in the TSI areas needed for the course in which they wish to enroll. (For example, a student enrolling in HIST 1301 is not required to have a waiver for Math. A waiver is needed for reading and writing only.) You may have to prove an exemption or take the TSI for Senior dual credit enrollment in the areas in which you did not complete a course with a C or better. (For example, if you complete HIST 1301 with a C or better as a Junior, your TSI status for reading and writing is met. If you did not take a math course and earn a C or better as a Junior, you will have to prove an exemption or take the TSI Math for Senior enrollment.)
TSI: What will I need to do? Complete Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA) online and print certificate of completion. Print testing referral ed to you at the time of admission or obtain a testing referral from Admissions and Records or Academic Advising with a photo ID. Pay the cashier, cost is $29. (Cashier s office closed Sat.) Walk in to test with any campus Testing Center. You should bring your testing referral, receipt, a picture ID, and PAA certificate of completion. See an Academic Advisor to review your results.
What if my TSI scores are low? The purpose of this assessment is to find out what level you should start your coursework. You only need college level placement in the areas needed for your course (e.g. ENGL 1301 requires college level in reading and writing but not in math) Mandatory Advising (MA) hold Will be on your account if you place below college level in at least one area. Must see academic advisor (no appt needed) or complete electronic survey before you can register online. If you do not place at college level in the areas required for your course that means you need to focus on your high school work at this time.
