4 Abut DcAve High Availability DcAve High Availability is a ne-switch disaster recvery slutin fr Micrsft Windws SharePint Services and Micrsft SharePint Server. It enables SQL database replicatin t a standby envirnment in rder t minimize the perceived dwntime fr users, r allws yu t leverage SQL alias t replicate databases within the same farm t separate SQL instance. DcAve 6 SP3 High Availability nly supprt SharePint 2010 envirnment. Cmplementary Prducts Many prducts and prduct suites n the DcAve 6 platfrm wrk in cnjunctin with ne anther. 5 Befre Yu Begin Refer t the sectins fr system and farm requirements that must be in place prir t installing and using DcAve High Availability. Cnfiguratin In rder t use DcAve High Availability, the DcAve 6 platfrm must be installed and cnfigured prperly n yur farm. High Availability will nt functin withut DcAve 6 present n the farm. Agents DcAve Agents are respnsible fr running DcAve jbs and interacting with the SharePint bject mdel. DcAve Agent must be installed n all f the servers in the SharePint farm. 9 Getting Started Refer t the sectins belw fr imprtant infrmatin n getting started with High Availability. Launching High Availability T launch High Availability and access its functinality, fllw the instructins belw. 1. Lg in t DcAve. If yu are already in the sftware, click the DcAve tab. The DcAve tab displays all mdules n the left side f the windw. 2. Click Data Prtectin t view the Data Prtectin mdules. 3. Click High Availability t launch this mdule. Figure 1: DcAve launch windw. 9

10 User Interface Overview After clicking High Availability, the High Availability user interface launches with the Hme tab active. 1 2 Figure 2: High Availability user interface. 1. The ribbn shws the available actins fr High Availability. 2. The wrkspace shws explanatins and the cntent that is used during the cnfiguratin f actins perfrmed in DcAve High Availability. 10

11 Abut Thrttle Cntrl Fr lw-bandwidth netwrks, thrttle cntrl is available t set bundaries and limitatins n jbs. Thrttle Cntrl ensures that jbs d nt cause a nticeable degradatin in netwrk perfrmance when running this jb. T access the Thrttle Cntrl interface, select the Grup Manager tab. On the Grup Manager tab, select Thrttle Cntrl n the ribbn. The Thrttle Cntrl interface displays all f the Thrttle Cntrl prfiles that yu have previusly created. In this interface, yu can change the number f Thrttle Cntrl prfiles displayed per page and the rder in which they are displayed. T change the number f Thrttle Cntrl prfiles displayed per page, select the desired number frm the Shw rws drp-dwn menu in the lwer right-hand crner. Custmize hw these Thrttle Cntrl prfiles are displayed in a number f different ways: Search Filters the previusly-created Thrttle Cntrl prfiles displayed by the keywrd yu designate. The keywrd must be cntained in a clumn value. At the tp f the Thrttle Cntrl prfiles viewing pane, enter the keywrd fr the Thrttle Cntrl prfiles yu wish t display. Yu can select Search all pages r Search current page t define the search scpe. Search all pages means that the Thrttle Cntrl prfiles in all f the pages whse names and descriptins cntain the keywrds will be displayed; while Search current page means that nly the Thrttle Cntrl prfiles in the current page whse names and descriptins cntain the keywrds will be displayed. Nte that the search functin is nt case sensitive. Manage clumns ( ) Manage which clumns are displayed in the list s that nly the infrmatin yu want t see is displayed. Click the manage clumns butn ( ), and then check the checkbx next t the clumn name t have that clumn shwn in the list. Hide the clumn ( ) Click the hide the clumn buttn ( ) in the clumn title t hide the clumn. Perfrm the fllwing actins in the Thrttle Cntrl interface: Create Click Create n the ribbn t create a new Thrttle Cntrl prfile. Fr detailed n creating a new Thrttle Cntrl prfiles, see Cnfiguring Thrttle Cntrl. Edit Click Edit n the ribbn t change the cnfiguratins fr the selected Thrttle Cntrl prfile. Fr details n editing cnfiguratins fr Thrttle Cntrl prfile, see Cnfiguring Thrttle Cntrl. Delete Click Delete n the ribbn. A cnfirmatin windw will pp up and ask whether yu are sure that yu want t prceed with the deletin. Click OK t delete the selected Thrttle Cntrl prfile, r click Cancel t return t the Thrttle Cntrl interface withut deleting the selected Thrttle Cntrl prfiles. 11

12 Cnfiguring Thrttle Cntrl Prfile T create a new Thrttle Cntrl prfile, select Create n the ribbn. T mdify a previusly-cnfigured Thrttle Cntrl prfile, select the Thrttle Cntrl prfile, and then select Edit n the ribbn. In the Create Thrttle Cntrl Prfile interface r Edit Thrttle Cntrl Prfile interface, cnfigure the fllwing settings: 1. Prfile Name Enter a prfile name and the descriptin fr the Thrttle Cntrl prfile yu are abut t create. 2. Run During Specify the jb running speed during wrking hurs and nn-wrking hurs, respectively. Enter a psitive integer int the text bx and select the KB/Secnd r MB/Secnd frm the drp-dwn menu t specify the desired unit f netwrk bandwidth. 3. Define Wrk Schedule Define the wrking schedule f the Thrttle Cntrl prfile yu are creating/editing. Specify the Wrking hurs and Wrking days. 4. Select Save t save the cnfiguratins and return t the Thrttle Cntrl interface, r select Cancel t return t the Thrttle Cntrl interface withut saving any changes. 12

13 Cnfiguring SQL Instance Settings Optinally, yu can cnfigure SQL Instance Settings t specify a master key passwrd fr the SQL server instance. If yu d nt cnfigure the SQL Instance Settings, a default master key passwrd will be autmatically created when perfrming the High Availability actins related t SQL Mirrring methd, r perfrming the synchrnizatin fr the databases encrypted by Transparent Data Encryptin (TDE). T cnfigure the SQL instance settings, cmplete the fllwing steps: 1. T access the SQL Instance Settings interface, select the Grup Manager tab, and then select the SQL Instance Settings buttn n the ribbn. The SQL Instance Settings interface appears. 2. Select an Agent frm the SQL Agent drp-dwn list. All f the selected Agent s SQL instances are displayed in the table. Alternatively, yu can use the search functin n the left-tp f the SQL instance table t search the SQL instance. 3. Under the Edit clumn acrss the specified SQL instance rw, click Cnfigure t cnfigure the specified SQL instance settings. 4. In the Edit page, enter the master key passwrd fr this SQL instance int the Master Key text bx. The specified master key passwrd must meet the Windws passwrd plicy requirements f the cmputer that is running the instance f SQL Server. 5. Optinally, yu can cnfigure the lcatin fr the data and lgs in the SQL instance separately. The default value is the default database lcatins fr data and lgs f this SQL instance. 6. Select Save t save the cnfiguratins yu have made and g back t the SQL Instance Settings interface. Select Cancel t g back withut saving any changes. Cnfiguring a High Availability Grup The High Availability Grup feature prvides an integrated wizard/frm interface fr creating and editing High Availability mde and settings fr High Availability functins such as Pre-Scan, Synchrnizatin, Failver, and Fallback. Fr mre infrmatin n creating a High Availability Grup, refer t the fllwing instructins. Using Wizard Mde t Create a Single Farm Mde High Availability Grup Use Single farm mde when yu want t ensure the availability f a single SharePint farm. Yu are recmmended t add the surce Cnfiguratin database, and Central Administratin database t the High Availability Grup fr Single farm mde. 13

14 Wizard Mde prvides yu with step-by-step guidance n hw t cnfigure a new grup. T cnfigure a Single Farm mde High Availability grup using Wizard Mde, cmplete the fllwing steps: *Nte: A red * in the user interface indicates a mandatry field r step. 1. *Enter a Grup Name and ptinal Descriptin, if desired. Select Next. 2. The General Settings interface appears, where yu will specify the High Availability Mde, Sync Methd, Failver Methd, and Failver Optin. a. High Availability Mde Chse which High Availability Mde yu are abut t use accrding t yur envirnment. In this cnditin, select Single farm ptin. b. Prductin Farm Select the SharePint farm that yu want t perfrm the High Availability frm the drp-dwn list. c. Prductin Agent Grup Select a prductin agent grup frm the drp-dwn list fr lad balancing and jb perfrmance. d. Sync Methd Select the SQL Mirrring, AlwaysOn Availability Grup, r Lg Shipping frm the sync methd drp-dwn list. Refer t the instructins belw fr mre infrmatin n the three Sync Methds. Lg Shipping perfrms a replicatin at the lg level. Lg Shipping methd sends transactin lg backups frm a primary database n a primary server instance t the secndary databases n separate secndary server instances. *Nte: If the nde has been included in a Platfrm Backup plan with the Use DcAve Platfrm Backup and Restre as the nly backup methd fr SharePint database ptin selected, it cannt be added t the High Availability Grup with Lg Shipping methd. SQL Mirrring perfrms a replicatin at the transactin level. SQL Mirrring is implemented n a per-database basis and wrks nly with databases that use the full recvery mdel. The SQL Mirrring methd creates endpints in the standby server by DcAve certificate. *Nte: The SQL Mirrring methd des nt supprt t mirrr the Web Analytics Staging database and the User Prfile Synchrnizatin database. *Nte: If yu use SQL Mirrring as the High Availability Sync Methd t synchrnize a large number f databases, DcAve High Availability may nly synchrnize sme f the databases t the standby server. If this ccurs, it is due t limitatins f yur SQL Server hardware. The factrs that affect the verall perfrmance and limit the number f databases that can be mirrred n the servers include: Amunt f RAM available n the principal and mirrr servers. Prcessing pwer f the principal and mirrr servers. 14

15 Bandwidth available fr the I/O subsystem n the principal and mirrr servers Netwrk bandwidth between the tw servers. Vlume f transactins n the principal database that generate transactin lg recrds (that is, transactins that change the database in any way). Fr mre details n the issues abve, see AlwaysOn Availability Grup, intrduced in SQL Server 2012 as an enterpriselevel alternative t SQL Mirrring, maximizes the availability f a set f user database fr an enterprise. An availability grup supprts a failver envirnment fr a discrete set f user databases, knwn as availability databases, which failver tgether. An availability grup supprts a set f readwrite primary databases and ne t fur sets f crrespnding secndary databases. Optinally, secndary databases can be made available fr read-nly access and/r sme backup peratins. *Nte: DcAve recmmends nt applying the SQL Mirrring methd and the AlwaysOn Availability Grup methd n the same SQL instance. e. Failver Methd Select the failver methd accrding t the sync methd yu specified. If yu select the Lg Shipping as the Sync Methd, nly the SQL Alias methd is available. If yu select the SQL Mirrring as the Sync Methd, yu can select the SQL Alias methd r SharePint Failver Server methd frm the drp-dwn list. If yu select the SharePint Failver Server methd, DcAve will use the failver server cnfigured in SharePint envirnment fr the mirrred databases. *Nte: The SharePint Failver Server is available nly if yu select the SQL Mirrring as the Sync Methd. If yu select the AlwaysOn Availability Grup as the Sync Methd, the AlwaysOn Availability Grup is available. An availability grup fails ver at the level f an availability replica. f. Failver Optins Select yur desired failver ptin accrding t the Sync Methd and the Failver Methd that yu specified. If yu select SQL Mirrring as the Sync Methd, and the SQL Alias as the Failver Methd, the Keep SQL mirrring relatinship ptin is selected by default t keep the SQL mirrring sessin in the event f a disaster. If yu select the Lg Shipping as the Sync Methd, and the SQL Alias as the Failver Methd, yu can select the Keep database in read-nly mde ptin 15

16 t keep the read-nly status t the secndary database. This ptin is specific fr the Lg Shipping methd. *Nte: The Failver Optins are nt available fr the ther cmbinatins f the Sync Methd and Failver Methd g. Select Next. The Add t Grup interface appears. 3. *In the Add t Grup interface, select frm the farm tree the SharePint cmpnents t add t this High Availability Grup. Refer t the Adding SharePint Cmpnents t a Grup fr mre infrmatin. Fr detailed infrmatin n which SharePint cmpnents are supprted in Single farm mde High Availability, see Appendix B SharePint Cmpnents Supprted fr High Availability. 4. SQL Alias Settings If yu set the SQL Alias as the Failver Methd, yu are required t cnfigure the SQL Alias Settings. T cnfigure the SQL Alias settings, cmplete the fllwing steps: a. Click Edit under the Prt clumn t specify a prt number fr the crrespnding SQL server instance. b. In the pp-up windw, enter an integer int the Prt text bx t specify a prt fr the SQL Alias, r yu can select the Dynamically determine prt checkbx t use the SQL Brwser t determine the prt dynamically. c. Click Save t save the cnfiguratin. Click Cancel t g back withut saving any changes. 5. SharePint Server Settings Select the SharePint servers frm the table, and the SQL Alias specified abve will be created n yur selected SharePint Servers separately when running a failver jb. *Nte: DcAve recmmends selecting all f the SharePint servers listed in the table t make sure that the SQL Alias infrmatin can be added t all f the SharePint servers in yur farm. 6. Thrttle Cntrl Select a thrttle cntrl prfile frm the drp-dwn list t define the jb running speed during the wrking hurs and nn-wrking hurs. Yu can click View t g t the Thrttle Cntrl interface t view the selected thrttle cntrl prfile. Fr detailed infrmatin n thrttle cntrl prfile, see Abut Thrttle Cntrl. 7. Schedule Selectin Define whether r nt t cnfigure a custm schedule t run the synchrnizatin jbs. N schedule If yu select this ptin, yu are required t manually run the synchrnizatin jbs based n this grup. Cnfigure the schedule myself If yu select this ptin, yu are required t cnfigure the custm schedule settings fr the synchrnizatin jbs. Click Add Schedule t set up a schedule. The Add Schedule interface appears. Select a type f the recurring synchrnizatin jb. The tw ptins are Initialize/Reinitialize and Synchrnize. Initialize/Reinitialize It will replicate the entire data frm the prductin server t the standby server. Specify the start time fr this type f 16

17 synchrnizatin jb in the Range f Recurrence field. Click Save, and then this schedule will display in the table. Click Cancel t g back t the Advanced Settings page. Synchrnize It will make the data changes synchrnus between prductin database and standby database based n the data stred in the prductin databases at the scheduled time. Enter an integer int the interval text bx in the Schedule Settings field, and select Minutes, Hurs, Days, Weeks, r Mnths. The data changes will be synchrnized based n this schedule. Specify the time range f the jb ccurrence in the Range f Recurrence field. Specify a start time that cannt be earlier than the current time, and then designate when t stp synchrnize the data in this grup. *Nte: If yu select the SQL Mirrring r AlwaysOn Availability Grup as the Sync Methd in the Single farm mde, this schedule ptin will nly take effect when yu select the Include New checkbx in the Add t Grup data tree and there are newly added databases in the selected ndes. Otherwise, the scheduled jbs will run in vain. N end date Select this ptin t synchrnize the data changes frm the prductin database t the standby database until yu stp it manually. End after _ ccurrences Select this ptin t have this type f synchrnizatin jb stp after the defined ccurrence that yu cnfigured in the text bx. End by Select this ptin t specify the exact date and time fr the data changes stpped being synchrnized. If desired, yu can change the time zne by clicking the current time zne link t select the desired ne. 8. Ntificatin Yu can select a previusly-created ntificatin prfile frm the drp-dwn list, r yu can click the New Ntificatin Prfile link t create a new ntificatin prfile. Fr detailed instructins, refer t the DcAve 6 Cntrl Panel Reference Guide. Click View t view the infrmatin f the ntificatin prfile. 9. Select Next. The Pre-Scan interface appears. 10. Select Scan t scan the envirnment fr the requirements that need t be met befre running a synchrnizatin jb. Or yu can skip this step, save the grup cnfiguratins, and then run the Pre-Scan jb fr this grup in Dashbard. 11. Select Next. The Overview interface appears. Yu can Select Edit in the field that yu want t mdify, and then yu are brught t the wizard t make yur changes. 12. Select Finish after yu have cnfirmed yur cnfiguratins. Select Cancel t g back t the Grup Manager interface withut saving any changes. 17

18 Using Wizard Mde t Create a Standby Farm Mde High Availability Grup Use Standby farm mde when yu want t ensure the availability by using a standby farm t synchrnize the SharePint cmpnents between ne SharePint instance and yur disaster recvery (DR) ne. In rder t accmplish this, a secndary farm must be cnfigured with a DcAve High Availability Agent installed. Standby farm mde requires yu t specify the prductin farm and the standby farm respectively. Once after the failver, yu need t use the prt f the standby Web applicatin t access the database. Wizard Mde prvides yu with step-by-step guidance n hw t cnfigure a new grup. Fllw the instructins belw t cnfigure a Standby farm mde High Availability grup using Wizard Mde. *Nte: A red * in the user interface indicates a mandatry field r step. 1. *Enter a Grup Name and ptinal Descriptin, if desired. Sync Methd Select the SQL Mirrring, AlwaysOn Availability Grup, r Lg Shipping frm the Sync Methd drp-dwn list. Refer t the instructins belw fr mre infrmatin n the three Sync Methds. Lg Shipping perfrms a replicatin at the lg level. Cnfigure the schedule myself If yu select this ptin, yu are required t cnfigure the custm schedule settings fr the synchrnizatin jbs. Click Add Schedule t set up a schedule. The Add Schedule interface appears. Select a type f the recurring synchrnizatin jb. The tw ptins are Initialize/Reinitialize and Synchrnize. Initialize/Reinitialize It will replicate the entire data frm the prductin server t the standby server. Specify the start time fr this type f synchrnizatin jb in the Range f Recurrence field. Click OK, and then this schedule will display in the table. Click Cancel t g back t the Advanced Settings page. Synchrnize It will make the data changes synchrnus between prductin database and standby database based n the data stred in the prductin databases at the scheduled time. Enter an integer int the interval text bx in the Schedule Settings field, and select by Hurs, Days, Weeks, r Mnths. The data changes will be synchrnized based n this schedule. Specify the time range f the jb ccurrence in the Range f Recurrence field. Specify a start time earlier that the current time, and then designate when t stp synchrnize the data in this grup. N end date Select this ptin t synchrnize the data changes frm the prductin database t the standby database until yu stp it manually. End after _ ccurrences Select this ptin t have this type f synchrnizatin jb stp after the defined ccurrence that yu cnfigured in the text bx. Enter the availability grup listener name int the Availability Grup Listener text bx fr the cnnectivity f the specified availability grup. In the Standby farm mde cnfiguratins, yu will nt cnfigure the Availability Grup Listener and this field will nt appear n the interface. 8. 25 Managing Grups Fr the created High Availability Grups, yu can use Grup Manager t manage them. After launching the DcAve High Availability interface, click Grup Manager next t the Hme tab. In the Grup Manger interface, all f the previusly-created grups are displayed in the main display pane. In this interface, yu can change the number f the grups displayed per page. T change the number f the grups displayed per page, select the desired number frm the Shw rws drp-dwn menu in the lwer right-hand crner. T srt the grups, click the clumn heading such as Grup Name, Descriptin, High Availability Mde, Sync Methd, and Failver Methd. Custmize hw these grups are displayed in a number f different ways: Search Filter the grups t be displayed by the keywrd entered in the Input Keywrd text bx (the keywrd is nt case sensitive). The keywrd must be cntained in a clumn value. Yu can select Search all pages r Search current page t define the search scpe. Search all pages means that the grups in all f the pages whse clumn cntains the keywrds will be displayed; while Search current page means that nly the grups in the current page whse clumn cntains the keywrds will be displayed. Manage clumns ( ) Manage which clumns are displayed in the list s that nly the infrmatin yu want t see is displayed. Click the manage clumns butn ( ), and then check the checkbx next t the clumn name t have that clumn shwn in the list. Hide the clumn ( ) Click the hide the clumn buttn ( ) in the clumn title t hide the clumn. Perfrm the fllwing actins in the Grup Manager interface: Create Click the Create buttn n the ribbn and then chse t create a grup in the wizard mde r frm mde. View Details Select a grup and click View Details. The grup settings are displayed n the View Details interface. When yu want t mdify the grup settings, click Edit n the ribbn. Edit Select a grup and click Edit n the ribbn t change the cnfiguratins fr the selected grup. Yu can mdify the High Availability Grup settings except the High Availability Mde, Prductin Farm, Standby Farm, Sync Methd, and Failver Methd. If yu have run the synchrnizatin jb, failver jb, r fallback jb n the grup, the related settings f the Web applicatin and database are nt editable. Yu can refer t the message under the Last Actin Status clumn in Dashbard t tell whether the grup has been run. Delete Select the grups that yu want t delete and click Delete n the ribbn. A cnfirmatin windw will pp up and ask whether yu are sure that yu want t prceed with the deletin. Click OK t delete the selected grups, r click Cancel t return t the Grup Manager interface withut deleting the selected grups. 25

Select the checkbx ahead f the desired ndes, and then yu can select Pre-Scan n the ribbn t check whether the grup can perfrm a synchrnizatin jb. A pp-up windw appears t ask fr cnfirmatin.
