Platfrm Backup and Restre backs up all cntent, custmizatins, slutins, and features, as well as back-end SQL databases, all cnfiguratins, index/jb servers, frnt-end IIS settings, file system resurces, and custm applicatin databases. It allws fr restre f an entire platfrm r individual SharePint 2010 r SharePint 2013 envirnment cmpnents. *Nte: DcAve Platfrm Backup and Restre des nt functin n the SharePint Online envirnment. 6 Befre Yu Begin Refer t the sectins fr system and farm requirements that must be in place prir t installing and using Platfrm Backup and Restre. Cnfiguratin In rder t use Platfrm Backup and Restre, the DcAve 6 platfrm must be installed and cnfigured prperly n yur farm. Platfrm Backup and Restre will nt functin withut DcAve 6 present n the farm. Agents DcAve Agents are respnsible fr running DcAve jbs and interacting with the SharePint bject mdel. Fr Platfrm Backup and Restre, a DcAve Agent must be installed n the fllwing servers: The SharePint Central Administratin server The Search Service Applicatin server where yu want t back up the cmpnents f the specified Search Service Applicatin The SharePint Fundatin (Help) Search server where yu want t back up the cmpnents f the SharePint Fundatin (Help) Search Each SharePint server where yu want t back up the fllwing bjects: IIS Settings, SharePint Hive, Glbal Assembly Cache, Custm Features, SharePint Site Definitins and Extra File System Flders Each FAST Search server where yu want t back up the FAST Search server settings The server with Micrsft SQL Server installed Each nde f Micrsft SQL Cluster *Nte: Platfrm Backup supprts SQL clustering, but nly MSCS is supprted. Failver is nt supprted fr a third party cluster, but there is a manual wrkarund. If cluster failver supprt is required, install the DcAve Agent n each SQL cluster nde. If it is nt required, the DcAve Agent nly needs t be installed n the active ndes. When cnfiguring the DcAve Agent, make sure the Agent Name field matches the cluster virtual nde name. 7 *Nte: The use f system resurces n a server increases when the installed Agent is perfrming actins. This may affect server perfrmance. Hwever, if the Agent installed n a server is nt being used, the use f system resurces is very lw and, therefre, the effect n server perfrmance is negligible. Required Permissins T install and use Platfrm Backup and Restre prperly, ensure that the Agent accunt has the fllwing permissins. Agent Accunt Cnfigured n the SharePint Agents Included in the Agent Grup 1. Lcal System Permissins Member f the Administratr lcal grup 2. SharePint Permissins: This permissin must be manually cnfigured prir t using DcAve 6 Platfrm Backup and Restre; it is nt autmatically cnfigured. Member f the Farm Administratrs grup *Nte: Fr bth SharePint 2010 and SharePint 2013, the Platfrm Granular Restre requires the Agent accunt t have Full Cntrl f all znes f the Web applicatin. 11 Getting Started Refer t the sectins belw fr imprtant infrmatin n getting started with Platfrm Backup and Restre. Launching Platfrm Backup and Restre T launch Platfrm Backup and Restre and access its functinality, cmplete the fllwing steps: 1. Lg in t DcAve. If yu are already in the sftware, click the DcAve tab. 2. Frm the DcAve tab, click Data Prtectin t view the backup mdules. 3. Click Platfrm Backup & Restre t launch this mdule. 12 User Interface Overview The Platfrm Backup and Restre user interface launches with the Backup tab active. This tab displays yur farm envirnment and allws fr quick access t a list f Platfrm Backup and Restre features. Figure 2: Platfrm Backup and Restre user interface. 1. The SharePint tree (Scpe panel) displays all cntent within yur farms. Use this panel t select the cntent that yu wish t perfrm actins n. Selecting cntent ften reveals new tabs and functinality n the ribbn. 2. The ribbn shws the available actins and wizards fr the selected ndes. This cntent is dynamic; it will ften change depending n what is selected n the SharePint tree. 3. The wrkspace shws all frm-based cntent that is used during the cnfiguratin f actins perfrmed in DcAve prducts. 12

13 Cnfiguring Devices and Setting up Strage Plicies In rder t perfrm a backup jb using Platfrm Backup and Restre, it is necessary t first cnfigure ne r mre physical/lgical devices and then set up a strage plicy. DcAve has the ability t treat multiple strage devices as a single lgical unit when saving backup data. This is especially useful fr very large backup plans, as many small drives can be cmbined. A strage plicy must be defined befre creating a backup plan. Platfrm Backup and Restre can write t any Net Share, FTP, TSM, EMC Centera, Clud Strage, Dell DX Strage, Caring Strage, and HDS Hitachi Cntent Platfrm device. 14 Abut the Staging Plicy The staging plicy determines where t stre the temprary databases generated during backup, maintenance, and restre. When yu perfrm the Platfrm granular level restre that d nt use InstaMunt, the data is first restred t a temprary database in SQL. If there is insufficient space n the SQL Server yu are restring t, yu can define a staging plicy, thus the required temprary database will be stred n the SQL Server specified in the staging plicy. When yu perfrm the Platfrm granular level restre that uses InstaMunt, the SQL Server specified in the staging plicy is used t stre the InstaMunt temprary database. Refer t the scenaris belw fr details regarding when t use the staging plicy. Scenari 1 A Platfrm backup jb with the Use InstaMunt t Index Granular Cntent ptin enabled. The backup data index used in the granular restre is generated frm the InstaMunt temprary database. If a staging plicy is specified in the backup plan, the InstaMunt temprary database is created n the SQL Server that yu specified in the staging plicy. If the staging plicy is nt specified in the backup plan, the InstaMunt temprary database is created n the SQL Server whse data is being backed up. Scenari 2 A Platfrm maintenance jb with the Generate index mapping ptin enabled and selecting a custm SQL server fr InstaMunt. If yu select the Custmize SQL Server radi buttn and specify a staging plicy, the InstaMunt temprary database is created n the SQL Server that yu specified in the staging plicy. If yu select the SQL Server fr backup radi buttn, the InstaMunt temprary database is created n the SQL Server whse data is being backed up. Scenari 3 A Platfrm granular restre jb that brwses the index in InstaMunt. In the Data Selectin step fr restring the granular cntent, brwse the backup data tree using the index generated by InstaMunt. If the staging plicy is specified when brwsing the index in InstaMunt, the InstaMunt temprary database is created n the SQL Server that yu specified in the staging plicy. If the staging plicy is nt specified when brwsing the index in InstaMunt, the InstaMunt temprary database is created n the riginal SQL Server whse data has been backed up by DcAve. Scenari 4 A Platfrm granular restre jb with the Use InstaMunt ptin enabled. The InstaMunt temprary database is used t restre the granular cntent. If the staging plicy is specified when running the restre jb, the InstaMunt temprary database is created n the SQL Server that yu specified in the staging plicy. 14

15 If the staging plicy is nt specified when running the restre jb, the InstaMunt temprary database is created n the SQL Server yu are restring t. In the fllwing situatins, the temprary database cannt be stred n the default SQL Server. T ensure the prper executin f Platfrm Backup and Restre jbs, a staging plicy must be used when: The SQL Server f a farm yu want t restre is crrupted. Yu d nt have the apprpriate permissins required fr the SQL Server being restred t. There is nt enugh space n the SQL Server t stre the temprary database. Cnfiguring a Staging Plicy T cnfigure a staging plicy: 1. Click Staging Plicy in the Settings grup n the Backup r Restre tab. The Staging Plicy Cnfiguratin windw appears. 2. Click Create frm the Manage grup. The Staging Plicy Cnfiguratin page appears. Cnfigure the fllwing settings: a. Staging Plicy Name Enter a Name and ptinal Descriptin fr the staging plicy. b. Platfrm Type Describe the sftware platfrm that is ging t use this staging plicy. c. SQL Agent Name and Instance Name Select a SQL Agent name (a DcAve Agent that is installed n the SQL Server database). Select the SQL instance name (where t save a temprary database). SQL Agent name All f the DcAve Agents that are installed n the SQL database servers are listed in the drp-dwn bx. SQL instance name All instances f SQL Server databases that have a DcAve Agent installed are listed in the drp-dwn bx. d. Database Access Credentials Select the authenticatin methd used t create the database. Windws authenticatin (recmmended) (the default ptin) Use this methd t cnfirm the user identity using Windws. SQL authenticatin SQL Server cnfirms the user identity accrding t the entered accunt and passwrd. The specified accunt must be added t the sysadmin rle in SQL Server. Click Validatin Test t verify the access t the SQL Server. e. Temprary Database Cnfiguratin Set up the cnfiguratin f the temprary database. 15

16 Minimum amunt f free space t leave Specify the minimum amunt f free space t leave fr the database file lcatin and lg file lcatin. DcAve ensures that the entered amunt exists in the crrespnding lcatin befre starting a jb. If the free space specified here des nt exist in the specified lcatin befre a jb starts, r if the entered amunt will nt exist after the temprary database is stred t the specified lcatin, then the crrespnding jb will fail. Temp database file lcatin Specify a lcal path n the SQL Server t stre the temprary database data file (.mdf). The frmat f the path is C:\data. The default lcatin is the database data default lcatin f SQL Server, fr example, C:\Prgram Files\Micrsft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Data. Temp lg file lcatin Specify a lcal path n the SQL Server t stre the temprary database lg file (.ldf). The frmat f the path is C:\data. The default lcatin is the database lg default lcatin f SQL Server, fr example, C:\Prgram Files\Micrsft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Data. 16

17 Selecting Cntent t Back Up After launching the Platfrm Backup and Restre user interface, the Scpe panel n the left f the screen displays the rt nde f the farm. *Nte: It is nt supprted t select the ndes bth n the SharePint 2010 tree and SharePint 2013 tree. T select the cntent t back up, cmplete the fllwing steps: 1. Click the farm nde t expand the tree; this displays all SharePint cmpnents (databases, services, slutins, etc.) that can be backed up. *Nte: If any newly-created SharePint bjects are nt displayed in the tree, right-click the rt Farm (Farm name) nde and click Refresh t refresh the tree. If desired, select the Include New nde t include any newly-created SharePint bjects (child ndes) in the Platfrm backup plan. By default, the Include New nde is selected fr each Web applicatin. The ndes that supprt the Include New functin are: Farm Windws SharePint Slutins Micrsft SharePint Fundatin Web Applicatin and the Web Applicatin ndes belw it Shared Service Applicatins Shared Service Prxies InfPath Frm Services Data Cnnectins Frm Templates Exempt User Agents 2. In the screensht belw, the fllwing SharePint bjects will be backed up by the Platfrm backup plan: Newly-created Web applicatins under the Micrsft SharePint Fundatin Web Applicatin nde (because Include New is selected) Any existing r newly-added cntent databases f the selected/newly-created Web applicatins under the Micrsft SharePint Fundatin Web Applicatin nde The Finance Web and HR Web Web applicatins 17

Using the Custmize Database Feature Use the Custmize Database feature t manually add t the SharePint cmpnent tree any custmized databases that are nt listed. Such databases include the database f a slutin, the database f third party sftware, and s n. Once a custmized database is added t the tree, it can be backed up as nrmal using a Full, Incremental, and Differential backup. 1. On the Backup tab, in the Settings grup, click Custmize Database. The Custmize Database windw appears. 2. In the Custmize Database windw, click the Custm Database nde n the right panel t expand the tree. All custmized databases n all f the SQL Servers that have DcAve Agents installed are listed under the crrespnding SQL instance nde in the tree. 3. Select the databases that yu want t be displayed n the backup tree by selecting the checkbx next t the database. 4. When finished, click OK. The selected database is nw shwn n the backup tree under the Custmize Database nde. 18

19 Overview f Backup Types DcAve Platfrm Backup and Restre uses Micrsft Vlume Shadw Cpy Services (VSS) snapsht technlgy t generate snapshts (VSS shadw cpies) and then prtects yur SharePint farm. When cnfiguring a backup schedule r running a backup plan, yu can specify the type f backup t perfrm: Full, Incremental, r Differential. Full Backs up all f the selected cntent, including transactin lg files, each time a backup is perfrmed. This ptin requires the mst strage space because each backup file can be substantial in size, depending upn the size f yur SharePint envirnment. Unlike Incremental and Differential backups, all Full backups are independent f ne anther and d nt have any dependencies n ther backup data files. Hwever, because each f the backups is cmprehensive, Full backup jbs take the lngest t cmplete f the three available ptins. Incremental Backs up nly the transactin lg, drastically reducing the size f the backup file created. Nte that an Incremental backup is the nly backup ptin that truncates the transactin lg. This backup requires less strage than a Full r Differential backup. Incremental backups reduce executin time, thereby allwing fr shrter backup windws. It is imprtant t nte, hwever, that in rder t recver all f the mst recent SharePint data frm an Incremental backup, the latest Full backup in the Full backup cycle must be available. If the Incremental backup is based n a frmer Incremental backup, the frmer must be available. Cnsider each Incremental backup file as a piece f the whle SharePint envirnment. If ne f these files is nt available, the full SharePint envirnment cannt be restred. Fr example, if the fllwing backups are perfrmed in this rder Full Backup, Incremental Backup, Incremental Backup, Incremental Backup: Figure 4: One Full backup fllwed by three Incremental backups. 1. The first Incremental Backup backs up the newly-added data in blue perid. 2. The secnd Incremental Backup backs up the newly-added data in green perid. 3. The third Incremental Backup backs up the newly-added data in range perid. Differential Backs up all cntent that has been updated since the last Full backup. These backup files are larger in size than Incremental files, but smaller than Full backup files. 23 Using Plan Builder t Back Up Data Use the Plan Builder t schedule a backup and define the type f backup (Full, Incremental, r Differential). T use Plan Builder: 1. After selecting the cntent t back up, click Plan Builder frm the Backup tab. 2. Frm the drp-dwn menu, select Wizard Mde fr step-by-step guidance during cnfiguratin, r select Frm Mde (recmmended fr advanced users nly) t set up a plan quickly. See the sectin belw applicable t yur chice. Using Wizard Mde t Create a Backup Plan Wizard Mde prvides yu with step-by-step guidance n hw t cnfigure a new plan. Fllw the instructins belw t cnfigure a plan using Wizard Mde. Nte that a red * in the user interface indicates a mandatry field r step. 1. Enter a Plan Name and ptinal Descriptin, if desired. Then chse whether t Create a new plan r Cpy saved plan settings frm template t start frm a previusly-saved plan template. Click Next. The Optins page appears. 2. Select the backup ptin. Refer t Overview f Backup Types fr supplemental infrmatin n backup types. Use DcAve Platfrm Backup and Restre as the nly backup methd fr SharePint databases Select this ptin nly when yu are using DcAve Platfrm Backup and Restre as the nly backup methd fr SharePint databases. Selecting this ptin runs a Full, Incremental, r Differential backup upn initiating the jb; this backs up bth the database s data file and the lg file. If yu select this ptin, all f the DcAve Platfrm Backup ptins can be used, making the backup prcess mre flexible and efficient. In rder t recrd the backup time and trace the backup, this methd will change the lg sequence number (LSN) f the database during the backup. Perfrm lg backup after full backup Select this ptin t run an Incremental backup immediately after a Full backup. Incremental backups back up and truncate the lg file. T prevent lg files frm grwing t large in the database, it is recmmended that yu select this ptin. When backing up a very large database while users are still making mdificatins t data residing in the database, the Incremental backup ensures that the backup data is up t date. If yu d nt select this ptin, use the Schedule step t schedule Incremental backups. Nte that failure t schedule Incremental backups will result in very large lg files. 23

24 Use DcAve Platfrm Backup and Restre in additin t ther existing SQL backup methds fr SharePint databases Select this ptin if DcAve Platfrm Backup and Restre is being used in additin t ther SQL backup methds. Selecting this ptin nly supprts Full backups f databases. This will result in lng backup times, rapidly grwing backup data, and lw system efficiency. This ptin is the equivalent f Cpy nly Backups in SQL Server. A cpy-nly backup is a SQL Server backup that is independent f the sequence f cnventinal SQL Server backups fr a special purpse withut affecting the verall backup and restre prcedures fr the database. With this ptin, Platfrm granular restre is still available, but nly frm each Full backup (as there are n Incremental r Differential backups fr DcAve t reference). *Nte: If yu select Use DcAve Platfrm Backup and Restre in additin t ther existing SQL backup methds fr SharePint databases, nly Full backup is supprted. Click Next. The Strage Plicy page appears. 3. Specify a Strage Plicy frm the drp-dwn list, r chse t set up a new strage plicy by clicking the New Strage Plicy link. Refer t Cnfiguring Devices and Setting up Strage Plicies fr mre infrmatin. Click the here link t display detailed infrmatin f the Primary Strage, Ttal Space, Free Space, and The number f physical device(s) attached in the area belw. 4. Specify any ptinal peratins t perfrm n the backup data. a. Select an ptinal Data Cmpressin setting. Select the Cmpressin checkbx t enable data cmpressin, and then chse a cmpressin level using the slider. A lw cmpressin level results in a faster cmpressin rate but a larger data set, while a high cmpressin level results in a slwer cmpressin rate but a smaller, better quality data set. Nte that small data sets cause slwer backup and restre times. Select whether t leverage DcAve Media Server (Media Service) resurces r SharePint Server (SharePint Agent) resurces fr cmpressin. b. Select the Encryptin checkbx (ptinal) t enable data encryptin. Encryptin prtects sensitive materials; hwever, encrypting data causes slwer backup and restre times. Select whether t leverage DcAve Media Server (Media Service) resurces r SharePint Server (SharePint Agent) resurces fr encryptin. Then select a security prfile t be used in the encryptin frm the Security prfile drp-dwn list, r click the New Security Prfile link t create a new security prfile. Fr mre infrmatin n the security prfile, refer t the DcAve 6 Cntrl Panel Reference Guide. *Nte: If bth Cmpressin and Encryptin are enabled, the tw peratins can nly be perfrmed tgether by selecting the same resurces (the DcAve Media Server [Media Service] r SharePint Server [SharePint Agent]) fr bth. 5. 25 6. Chse whether r nt t Create Persistent Snapshts f the selected bjects. Creating persistent snapshts retains the snapsht after the backup jb is cmpleted. This enables yu t defer the cping f the backup data frm the persistent snapsht t the crrespnding strage plicy until the specified maintenance jb is perfrmed. Fr mre infrmatin, refer t Step 12: Maintenance Optins. DcAve recmmends using creating persistent snapshts when yu have a hardware prvider n yur SQL server. If the Create Persistent Snapsht is enabled and yur SQL server is clustered, nly the hardware prvider will create persistent snapshts. If yu select Yes, DcAve saves a snapsht n the specified hardware when each backup is initiated. This snapsht cntains the cntent database s files and transactin lg that will be backed up. As this ptin uses less system resurces when Cpy data frm snapsht t media server is selected, it is recmmended that yu select Create Persistent Snapshts if yu plan t run backups during wrking hurs. If yu select N, the snapsht will be deleted after the backup jb. If yu select Yes, the fllwing ptins appear and must be cnfigured. a. Cnfigure the Snapsht Retentin Plicy. Enter in the textbx the maximum number f snapshts the current plan can take. Cnsidering perfrmance, it is nt recmmended that the value f this attribute be larger than 64. b. Click Advanced Settings t further custmize the threshld plicy. Define which plicy DcAve will apply when the amunt f snapshts per vlume in the strage lcatin exceeds the specified value. Fr mre infrmatin, refer t Snapsht Retentin Plicy. 7. Click Next. The Advanced page appears. 8. Chse whether r nt t Enable InstaMunt Mapping fr Granular Restre. InstaMunt makes item-level restre mre efficient, as it uses a mapping file t recrd the relatinship between the InstaMunt temprary database and backup data. Nte that the use f InstaMunt requires minimal disk space. Refer t Abut InstaMunt fr mre infrmatin. *Nte: InstaMunt is supprted fr the strage plicy using the strage type f Net Share, TSM, DELL DX Strage, r HDS Hitachi Cntent Platfrm. a. If selecting Yes, yu can chse a Staging Plicy fr string the InstaMunt temprary database. If yu d nt cnfigure a staging plicy, the SQL instance where the backed up data resides will be used fr InstaMunt. Fr mre infrmatin n staging plicies, refer t Cnfiguring a Staging Plicy. b. Full Backup A full backup f the selected bjects and lg files. Incremental Backup A fractinal backup; backs up and truncates nly the transactin lg. This is the nly backup that truncates the transactin lg. Differential Backup A fractinal backup; backs up nly the data that has been added since the last Full backup. After cnfiguring the schedule fr the Platfrm Backup, click Calendar View t view the scheduled jbs by Day, Week, r Mnth. All f the schedules will be displayed in the Summary table. Click X t delete a schedule. *Nte: Frequent cnsecutive Differential backups have a tendency t repeatedly back up the same data, which fills disk space quickly. Fr best results when cnducting high frequency backups, it is recmmended t use Incremental backups. Incremental backups save time and strage space by backing up nly the differences between this Incremental backup and the last backup, instead f backing up all f the selected bjects in their entirety. 11. Click Next. The Maintenance page appears. 12. Cnfigure the fllwing maintenance settings: a. Maintenance Optins Chse the peratins t be perfrmed n the persistent snapshts and backup data during the maintenance. Transfer snapsht data t media server fr last backup(s) The snapsht data f the specified number f latest backups is sent t the strage plicy selected in the Strage Plicy step. 26

The generated mapping is used in Platfrm granular restre. *Nte: If yu did nt enable the InstaMunt granular restre in the Advanced step but still want t generate InstaMunt mapping, yu can generate the InstaMunt mapping in a later maintenance jb using this selectin. Generate granular restre index fr last backup(s) This ptin generates the granular restre index fr the specified number f latest backups in the selected Strage Plicy. The index is used in Platfrm granular restre. *Nte: If yu select a Maintenance Optin, yu must cnfigure a schedule fr running the maintenance jbs. *Nte: Yu can als perfrm maintenance jbs manually in Jb Mnitr. Fr mre infrmatin, refer t Manual Maintenance. b. Maintenance Schedule Define the Schedule type selectin fr the scheduled maintenance jbs. Nte that yu can nly perfrm a maintenance jb n Finished and Finished with Exceptin backup jbs. These backup jbs must either defer cpying data frm persistent snapsht, defer generating InstaMunt mapping, r defer generating a granular restre index. A maintenance jb perfrms deferred peratins. N schedule Run the maintenance jb manually. Select this ptin if yu want t run the maintenance jb manually in Jb Mnitr after the crrespnding backup jb cmpletes. Cnfigure the schedule myself Select this ptin t cnfigure a custmized schedule, and run the maintenance jb by schedule. Click Add Schedule t set up a schedule. The Add Schedule windw appears. After cnfiguring the schedule fr the maintenance jb, click Calendar View t view the scheduled jbs by Day, Week, r Mnth. Only ne schedule can be added and displayed in the Summary table. Click X t delete a schedule. c. Maintenance Ntificatin T infrm specified users f a maintenance jb, cnfigure a ntificatin. Select a previusly-cnfigured ntificatin prfile frm the Select a prfile with address nly drp-dwn list, r create a new ntificatin prfile by clicking the New Ntificatin Prfile link. Click View t view the detailed cnfiguratin f the selected ntificatin prfile. 13. When finished, click Next. The Overview screen appears. 14. Review and edit the plan selectins. T make changes, click Edit in the middle f the rw. This links t the crrespnding setting page, allwing yu t edit the cnfiguratin. 15. Check the Save current plan as plan template checkbx t save the current plan as a template. Enter the template name in the textbx. The plan template will be saved as this plan is saved. Next time, yu can select this plan template t create a new plan. 27

Refer t Overview f Backup Types fr additinal infrmatin. *Nte: DcAve perfrms a Full backup when running any Platfrm backup plan fr the first time, regardless f the backup plan chsen. An initial Full backup is mandatry fr all plans. Transfer data frm snapsht t media server Cpies the snapsht data frm the hardware t the crrespnding lgical device. If this ptin is unchecked, n backup data is written t the lgical device. *Nte: If n persistent snapsht is created during the backup jb, the snapsht data is always cpied t the crrespnding lgical device regardless f whether this ptin is selected r nt. Defer transferring data frm persistent snapsht The snapsht data is nt cpied t the lgical device during the backup jb. If yu select this ptin, the snapsht data is cpied t the crrespnding lgical device in a scheduled/manual maintenance jb that is run after the backup jb cmpletes. Defer generating InstaMunt mapping The InstaMunt mapping is nt generated fr the backup data in the crrespnding lgical device. The mapping can be generated using a scheduled r manual maintenance jb that is run after the backup jb cmpletes, brwsing the index in InstaMunt when cnfiguring the Item Settings in the Data Selectin step f Restre Wizard, r selecting Use InstaMunt in the Restre Settings step f Restre Wizard. 2. Restre Granularity Select the restre granularity level fr the scheduled backup jb. After selecting the Restre Granularity, yu can expand the tree t the level yu specified when running a restre jb. If yu select Nne, n granular restre index is generated. Defer generating granular restre index Selecting this ptin des nt generate a granular restre index fr the backup data in the crrespnding lgical device. The index can be generated using a scheduled r manual maintenance jb that is run after the backup jb cmpletes. 3. Back up Stub Database fr Selected Scpe Chse whether r nt t back up the stub database alng with the cntents yu have selected t back up. This ptin allws users t perfrm the granular level restre t restre the stubs frm the backed up stub database. 4. Back up BLOB fr Selected Scpe Chse whether t back up the BLOB cntent generated by Strage Manager and the files in the cnnected path f Cnnectr. Select the crrespnding checkbxes if yu wish t back up the specified BLOB data. 28

Jb Reprt Specify the level f reprting fr the backup jb. Simplified means t create a summary f the backup data. Detailed means t create a detailed reprt that cntains all f the infrmatin f the Web frnt-end backup bjects at the cst f perfrmance. 6. Type Select the interval at which the backup ccurs. 7. Schedule Settings Set up the frequency fr the scheduled backup jb. If yu select the type as By hur, By week, r By mnth, set up the advanced settings fr the frequency. Fr mre scheduling ptins, select the Advanced checkbx t reveal additinal ptins. 8. Range f Recurrence Select the start time and end time fr the schedule. 9. Click OK t save the cnfiguratins as a schedule, r click Cancel t exit the current page withut saving any changes. Manual Maintenance A maintenance jb perfrms any peratins deferred during backup jbs; such deferred peratins include defer cpying data frm persistent snapsht, defer generating InstaMunt mapping, r defer generating a granular restre index. In additin t a scheduled maintenance jb (which can be cnfigured in the backup plan), yu can perfrm a maintenance jb manually, in Jb Mnitr, n jbs that have already finished/finished with exceptin. T infrm specified users that a maintenance jb is abut t be run, cnfigure a Maintenance Ntificatin. Select a previusly-cnfigured ntificatin prfile frm the Select a prfile with address nly drp-dwn list, r create a new ntificatin prfile by clicking the New Ntificatin Prfile link. Click View t view the detailed cnfiguratin f the selected ntificatin prfile. Maintenance jbs can be viewed in Jb Mnitr by selecting Filter grup > Mdule > Platfrm Maintenance Manager. Fr mre infrmatin, refer t the DcAve 6 Jb Mnitr Reference Guide. *Nte: Yu can nly perfrm a maintenance jb n Finished and Finished with Exceptin backup jbs. These backup jbs must defer cpying data frm persistent snapsht, defer generating InstaMunt mapping, r defer generating a granular restre index. A maintenance jb perfrms deferred peratins. When a maintenance jb is cmplete, the crrespnding maintenance ptins/buttns will be greyed ut. The Generate InstaMunt mapping feature and the Generate index mapping feature nly functin n the cntent database, and the Generate InstaMunt mapping feature des nt supprt the incremental backup jb. *Nte: If yu backed up the cntent database with file stream data using persistent snapsht, the maintenance jb fr generating index may fail. 29

30 Snapsht Retentin Plicy If yu apply a retentin plicy t snapshts, bth the MaxSnapshtCunt rule in the cnfiguratin file and the snapsht threshld rule cnfigured in the Plan Builder are referred t after the backup jb is finished. Fr infrmatin n cnfiguring snapsht retentin rules, refer t the infrmatin in this sectin as well as the Setting up Snapsht Retentin Rules in the Cnfiguratin File sectin. *Nte: The snapshts f the failed and stpped jbs will be deleted right away. Only the finished backup jb can apply the retentin plicy. *Nte: DcAve cunts snapshts taken by third party sftware twards the number f current snapshts stred n the hardware. Hwever, snapshts taken by third party sftware/ther plans cannt be deleted when executing retentin plicies. *Nte: If yu d nt chse Transfer data frm snapsht t Media server ptin when running the backup jb, the crrespnding snapsht will be deleted during snapsht retentin with Plicy 1 enabled in Plan Builder. During a backup jb, DcAve checks the cnfigured retentin rules twice. The fllwing infrmatin describes the retentin rule lgic in detail. 1. The first check ccurs befre the backup f the desired data. DcAve cmpares the current snapsht number n the hardware with the cnfigured maximum number f snapshts yu want t keep n the hardware, which is the MaxSnapshtCunt in the cnfiguratin file. After the first check, DcAve then executes snapsht retentin accrding t the Snapsht threshld plicy cnfigured in DcAve Platfrm Backup and Restre Plan Builder. There are three plicy ptins: Plicy 1: Schedule the data transfer fr the ldest jb snapsht, after data transfer then delete snapsht and start new jb The ldest snapsht frm the current plan s data is transferred t the cnfigured lgical device immediately and the snapsht is deleted frm the hardware. A new jb fr the current plan then starts. Plicy 2: Fail the new jb, d nthing t the ldest snapsht and jb The current plan s new jb fails, and all f the snapshts that have been saved n the hardware are kept. Plicy 3: Directly fail the ldest jb crrespnding t the snapsht, delete the snapsht withut data transfer and start new jb The current jb s ldest snapsht is deleted directly frm the hardware, and all jbs related t the deleted snapsht fail. A new jb fr the current plan then starts. Nte the fllwing: If the current snapsht number n the hardware is greater than r equal t (>=) the MaxSnapshtCunt cnfigured in the cnfiguratin file, DcAve executes the plicy yu specified in Platfrm Backup and Restre Plan Builder. 30

31 *Nte: DcAve will simulate the executin f the retentin jb t determine if enugh space fr the new snapsht will exist after the retentin. If there is nt, the exceeded snapshts are nt deleted and the new backup jb fails. If yu select Plicy 1 r Plicy 3, DcAve deletes the current plan s ldest exceeding snapshts t ensure that there is space fr the new backup data, and then runs the backup jb. If yu select Plicy 2, the backup jb fails. If the current snapsht number n the hardware is smaller than (<) the MaxSnapshtCunt value in the cnfiguratin file, DcAve runs the new backup jb directly. 2. The secnd check ccurs after backup f the desired data. DcAve cmpares the number f backup jbs that the current plan has taken with The number f backup jbs yu want t retain snapshts fr is value cnfigured in Plan Builder. After the check, DcAve then executes snapsht retentin accrding t the Snapsht threshld plicy belw. Nte the fllwing: If the number f backup jbs that the current plan has taken is greater than (>) The number f the backup jbs yu want t retain snapshts fr is value cnfigured in Plan Builder, DcAve cpies the current plan s ldest snapshts t the lgical device, and then deletes it (them) frm the hardware. *Nte: DcAve determines the snapshts that the current plan has taken still exceeds the threshld (The number f the backup jbs yu want t retain snapshts fr is value in the Plan Builder) after the retentin; if it des, the exceeded snapshts are nt deleted. Hwever, the new backup jb cmpletes since the new snapsht has been taken. Envirnment Requirement: Install the Hardware Prvider n the servers where the data t back up reside. Establish the same iscsi sessin fr the servers abve with the strage server. Cnfiguring Cnfiguratin File T enable the transprtable snapsht feature, cmplete the fllwing steps t cnfigure the cnfiguratin file: 1. Navigate t \AvePint\data\SP2010\Platfrm. Find the SP2010PlatfrmCnfiguratin.xml file. 2. Open the SP2010PlatfrmCnfiguratin.xml file with Ntepad. Find the <BackupCnfig> element. 3. Mdify the <DataTransferOptinCnfig TransferOptin> attribute. There are tw meaningful values: 0 Disable the transprtable snapsht feature. 1 Enable the transprtable snapsht feature. 4. Save the cnfiguratin and then clse this file. If all f the envirnment requirements are met, the transprtable snapsht feature will functin when perfrming the Platfrm Backup jbs with VSS. 34

35 Using Frm Mde t Create a Backup Plan Frm Mde is recmmended fr users wh are familiar with building DcAve backup plans. T build a backup plan in Frm Mde, select the cntent t be backed up, then click Plan Builder > Frm Mde. Refer t Using Wizard Mde t Create a Backup Plan fr detailed infrmatin regarding each ptin. *Nte: If this is yur first time building a plan, r if yu think yu wuld benefit frm descriptins f each plan cmpnent, it is recmmended yu use the Wizard Mde. Running a Backup Jb Immediately If setting up a plan using Wizard Mde, yu can run the backup jb immediately by clicking Finish and Run Nw when saving the plan; the plan is saved and the jb is run immediately. If setting up a plan using Frm Mde, click OK and Run Nw when saving the plan; the plan is saved and the jb is run immediately. 35

36 Managing Plans Fr the created platfrm backup plans, yu can use Plan Manager t manage them. After launching the Platfrm Backup and Restre interface, click Plan Manager next t the Restre tab. In the Plan Manager interface, all f the previusly-created plans are displayed in the main display pane. In this interface, yu can change the number f plans displayed per page. T change the number f the plans displayed per page, select the desired number frm the Shw rws drp-dwn menu in the lwer right-hand crner. T srt the plans, click the clumn heading such as Plan Name, Descriptin, Plan Grup, Farm, Last Mdified Time, and Platfrm Type. Custmize hw these plans are displayed in a number f different ways: Search Filter the plans t be displayed by the keywrd entered in the Input Keywrd text bx (the keywrd is nt case sensitive). The keywrd must be cntained in a clumn value. Yu can select Search all pages r Search current page t define the search scpe. Search all pages means that the plans in all f the pages whse clumn cntains the keywrds will be displayed; while Search current page means that nly the plans in the current page whse clumn cntains the keywrds will be displayed. Manage clumns ( ) Manage which clumns are displayed in the list s that nly the infrmatin yu want t see will be shwn. Select the manage clumns buttn ( ), and then check the checkbx next t the clumn name t have that clumn shwn in the list. Hide the clumn ( ) Hver ver a clumn heading and then select the hide the clumn buttn ( ) t hide the clumn. Filter the clumn ( ) Filter which item in the list is displayed. Unlike Search, yu can filter whichever item yu want, rather than search based n a keywrd. Hver ver a clumn heading in a clumn yu want t filter, and then select the filter the clumn buttn ( ). Check the checkbx next t the item name t have that item shwn in the list. Perfrm the fllwing actins in the Plan Manager interface: View Details Select a plan and click View Details. The backup scpe and the plan settings are displayed n the View Details interface. When yu want t change the ndes yu selected r want t mdify the migratin settings, click Edit n the ribbn. Edit Select a plan and click Edit n the ribbn t change the cnfiguratins fr the selected plan. Yu can change the ndes yu selected and mdify the Platfrm Backup plan settings. Besides, yu can click Strage Plicy, Staging Plicy, r Custmized Database t perfrm the crrespnding actins. Delete Select the plans that yu want t delete and click Delete n the ribbn. A cnfirmatin windw will pp up and ask whether yu are sure that yu want t 36

37 prceed with the deletin. Click OK t delete the selected plans, r click Cancel t return t the Plan Manager interface withut deleting the selected plans. Test Run Click Test Run t perfrm a test run jb that simulates the real platfrm backup jb. By viewing the jb reprt f the test run, yu can find whether the surce cntents can be backed up successfully, and then adjust the plans r ptimize the settings. Run Nw Click Run Nw t g t the Run Nw interface. Fr mre infrmatin f the settings n Run Nw interface, see Cnfiguring Run Nw Interface. Cnfiguring Run Nw Interface In the Run Nw interface, cnfigure the settings belw: Optins Specify the type f the backup jb yu want t run n the selected plan. Yu can select the Full Backup, Incremental Backup, r Differential Backup frm the drpdwn list, and then specify whether r nt t transfer the data frm snapsht t media server immediately after snapsht is cmplete (Transfer data frm snapsht t media server), defer transferring data frm persistent snapsht until the specified time in Maintenance schedule (Defer transferring data frm persistent snapsht ), r defer generating the InstaMunt mapping until the specified time in Maintenance schedule (Defer generating InstaMunt mapping). *Nte: The incremental backup des nt supprt t cnfigure the settings abve. Restre Granularity Select the granular restre index level fr brwsing the restre cntent. Yu can select Site Cllectin, Site, Flder, Item, Item Versin, and Nne as the granular restre index level. Selecting the Defer generating granular restre index checkbx will defer the generatin until the specified time in Maintenance schedule. Back up Stub Database fr Selected Scpe Chse whether r nt t back up the stub database alng with the cntents yu have selected t back up. Back up BLOB fr Selected Scpe Chse whether r nt t back up the BLOB cntent generated by Strage Manager and the files in the cnnected path f Cnnectr. Select the crrespnding checkbxes if yu wish t back up the specified BLOB data. *Nte: If yu want t back up the BLOB data frm the file share using VSS, the File Server VSS Agent Service must be enabled n the file server. Jb Reprt Specify the jb reprt type. Simplified means t create a summary f the backup data. Detailed means t create a detailed reprt that cntains all f the infrmatin f the Web frnt-end backup bjects at the cst f perfrmance.. Click Ok t run a platfrm backup jb immediately based n the plan, click Cancel t return t the Plan Manager interface withut running the platfrm backup jb. 37

38 Abut InstaMunt It is recmmended that yu enable the InstaMunt functin t restre items that are small in file size. An InstaMunt temprary database is much smaller (and uses less space n SQL Server) than a temprary database used during an rdinary restre. As a result, a Platfrm granular restre can be much faster when using InstaMunt. The InstaMunt functin can be enabled in either a backup r restre jb. If yu did nt select Yes in Enable InstaMunt Granular Restre field when creating a backup plan, yu still can use the Brwse the index in InstaMunt r Use InstaMunt functin when creating a restre plan. Hwever, if yu are restring large amunts f data, the advantages f InstaMunt are nt significant; it is nt recmmended that yu use InstaMunt in such cases. If the reading speed f yur device is slw, using InstaMunt may lead t the jb failver fr sessin timeut. DcAve recmmends nt using InstaMunt in this case. *Nte: Fr DcAve 6 Service Pack 3 Platfrm Backup and Restre, nly the physical device in the strage type f DELL DX Strage, TSM, HDS Hitachi Cntent Platfrm, r Net Share supprts t use InstaMunt. InstaMunt Mapping and Restre Index The InstaMunt mapping file is generated frm backup data; it is used t generate the temprary files used by the InstaMunt functin. The granular restre index is used fr Platfrm granular restre. The mapping file can be generated when brwsing the index in InstaMunt r during a Platfrm Backup jb, a Platfrm Restre jb, r by a maintenance jb. The granular restre index can be generated during a Platfrm Backup jb r by a maintenance jb. When running a Platfrm backup jb with InstaMunt Granular Restre nt enabled, an index is generated directly frm the databases being backed up. This may ccupy mre system resurces n the crrespnding SQL Server. The InstaMunt functin is used t generate a granular restre index during a maintenance jb. 38

39 Abut the Platfrm Backup and Restre fr SQL Mirrring Database Fr yur SharePint envirnment, if there are principal databases and mirrring databases in the SQL Server, yu can use the full/incremental platfrm backup t back up yur principal databases fr ensuring safety in prductin. When the principal databases are switched t the crrespnding mirrring databases which are used as failver databases, the incremental platfrm backup jb will be frced t the full platfrm backup jb since the failver breaks the lg chain. *Nte: If yu chse SQL authenticatin as the database authenticatin f a cntent database in SharePint, make sure that the Agent accunt has the permissin t lgin SQL Server f the destinatin. Otherwise the mirrring databases cannt be backed up when being used as failver databases. *Nte: Befre perfrming an In Place Restre at database level, yu must manually terminate the mirrring relatinship because a database cannt be deleted r verwritten when it is ccupied, then the databases must be deleted t make the In Place Restre available. This ensures data integrity and prtects yur farm. T build and run an in place restre jb at the database level: 1. Fllw the instructins given in Perfrming a Restre t begin building the plan. 2. Data Selectin Select the cntent yu want t restre using the tree. The cntent in the tree will vary depending upn the type f backup selected. In this case, select a cntent database t restre. 3. Restre Type Cnfigure the restre type and specify the Agent grup t perfrm the restre jb in this page. a. Restre Type Chse where the cntent will be restred. Restre SharePint farm cmpnents Select the lcatin where t restre the backup data. In this case, select In place restre t restre the database t the riginal SharePint lcatin. Restre raw database Chse this ptin t restre the database in the backup t anther SQL Server. Refer t Restring a Raw Database fr mre infrmatin n perfrming this ptin. b. Agent Grup Specify an Agent grup t run the restre jb fr lad balancing and perfrmance. Click View t view the details f the specified Agent grup. 4. Restre Settings Chse detailed settings fr the restre jb. a. Restre Database t Mst Recent State With this ptin enabled, the database is restred tgether with any recent mdificatins that were made after the latest database backup. DcAve first restres the backed-up database, and then mdifies the database t its mst recent status using the lg files that were backed up during an Incremental backup. Select N t restre nly the backed up database. b. Restre Database Only If Yes is selected, the selected databases are restred with n attempt t cnnect them t the SharePint envirnment. This is useful when a SharePint envirnment has nt yet been set up (fr example, during a whle farm restre). This can als be useful when perfrming manual steps t bring up r dwn a specific envirnment after the database has been restred. If yu select N, the database is cnnected t the SharePint farm nrmally after the restre. 43

44 *Nte: Cnfiguratin databases and Central Administratin databases can nly be restred when this ptin is selected. c. Safe Restre A Safe Restre keeps the destinatin intact in the event that the restre jb fails. In an Overwrite restre jb, selecting Yes restres the databases t a temprary database first (as a safety precautin in the event that the restre jb fails). If the restre jb cmpletes successfully, the riginal database is deleted. Then, the temprary database is renamed t the riginal database name and it is cnnected t the SharePint farm. If yu select N, the riginal database is deleted as sn as the Overwrite restre jb begins. In the case f a Nt Overwrite restre jb at the database level, the restre jb perfrms n actin n the database in questin if the riginal database has the same name as the ne in the backup. d. Restre Optin Specify whether r nt t verwrite the database cntents if there is a cnflict between the riginal database name and that f the backed-up database. Nt Overwrite If a selected database in the backup has the same name as a database in the riginal farm, then the selected database in the backup is nt restred. Overwrite If a selected database in the backup has the same name as a database in the riginal farm, then the riginal database is deleted first and the database in the backup is then restred. e. Cnfigure the Ntificatin settings. Select a previusly-cnfigured ntificatin prfile frm the Select a prfile with address nly drp-dwn list, r create a new e- mail ntificatin prfile by clicking the New Ntificatin Prfile link. Click View t view the detailed cnfiguratin f the selected ntificatin prfile. When finished cnfiguring Restre Settings, click Next. The Schedule page appears. 5. Schedule Chse whether r nt t run the restre jb based n a schedule. Select Restre nce finish the wizard t run the jb immediately after finishing the restre wizard. T cnfigure the schedule yurself, select Cnfigure the schedule myself and input a start time in Schedule Settings field. If desired, enter an ptinal Descriptin t distinguish the restre jb frm thers. When finished, click Next. The Overview page appears. 6. Review and edit the Data Selectin, Restre Type, Restre Settings, and Schedule fr the restre jb. T make changes, click Edit in the middle f the rw. This links t the crrespnding setting page, allwing yu t edit the cnfiguratin. 7. Click Finish t save the jb s cnfiguratin. 44

If yu d nt select this ptin, the tree in the Backup Data pane can nly be expanded dwn t the site cllectin level; the granular cntent cannt be selected. Refer t Deselecting the Restre Granular Cntent Feature fr detailed infrmatin. Cnfigure the fllwing settings: Cntainer Selectin Select the Glbal setting fr cntainer cnfiguratin checkbx t enable the cntainer s glbal settings. By default, the InstaMunt temprary database is stred n the SQL Server that DcAve has backed up. If yu want t change the lcatin f the InstaMunt temprary database, click the Cnfigure link t select a staging plicy fr string the InstaMunt temprary database generated during brwsing. Fr mre infrmatin, refer t Abut the Staging Plicy. *Nte: If a granular restre index is generated fr the specified Platfrm backup jb, Brwse the stred index will be selected by default; if the granular restre index is nt generated fr the specified Platfrm backup jb, the Brwse the index in InstaMunt ptin must be used when restring the backup using Platfrm granular restre. 4. Expand the tree and lcate the cntent yu want t restre. The detailed infrmatin can be viewed in the Item Brwser pp-up windw. Specify the cnfiguratin f the cntent being restred. a. Default Platfrm Backup Use the stub database that has been backed up by a Platfrm Backup jb. Other/Third Party Backup Select this ptin if the stub database was backed up by ther/third party tls, and yu must manually restre and stage the stub database nt the destinatin SQL server. Database Access Credentials Enter the SQL instance name where the stub database resides and the stub database name. Restring a Raw Database This ptin must be used t restre the SharePint cnfiguratin database in the backup t anther SQL Server. T restre nly the database t a specified SQL Server, select Restre Raw Database as the Restre Type and then cnfigure the Destinatin Cmpnent Optins: *Nte: If yu backed up the cntent database with file stream data using persistent snapsht, the restre jb using Restre Raw Database as the Restre Type may fail. 1. SQL Agent All f the SQL Agents (DcAve Agents that are installed n the SQL database servers) are listed in the drp-dwn bx. Select ne SQL Agent t restre the backed-up database t the specified SQL instance. 2. SQL Instance Specify an SQL Instance t stre the restred cntent database. 3. Database Access Credentials Specify the authenticatin methd used t create the database. Windws authenticatin (recmmended) (the default ptin) Use this methd if yu want the user identity t be cnfirmed by Windws. SQL authenticatin SQL Server cnfirms the user identity itself accrding t the specified accunt and passwrd. The specified accunt must be added t the sysadmin rle in SQL Server. 4. Detailed Infrmatin Displays the detailed infrmatin f the database t be restred, including its name and type. Click Edit in the Details clumn t edit the fllwing prperties. a. Database Name The database is restred using the name specified here. b. Database and Lg File Mapping Click Details t specify the name and path f the destinatin database file/lg file. *Nte: If the specified path des nt exist n the destinatin server, DcAve creates the path autmatically during the restre jb. Optins fr Restring Backed-up Web Frnt-end Files In the Settings grup n the Time-based Restre tab, there are tw ptins that can be used t restre the Web frnt-end files. 59

60 Installed Prgrams This functin is used fr checking the prgram installatin status n the specified Web frnt-end server when backing up the specified Web frnt-end server cmpnents, as well as the current prgram installatin status. Dwnlad Backup List This functin is used fr checking data status n the selected Web frnt-end server when backing up the specified Web frnt-end server cmpnents, as well as the current data status. Click the Dwnlad Backup List buttn n the ribbn, select the crrespnding checkbxes and click OK. A.zip file that cntains detailed lists is dwnladed t the specified lcal path. The list is recrded in the.csv file in the.zip file. There is als ne special restre setting fr restring the Web Frnt-end files. Restre Frnt-end File Security This ptin nly applies t the frnt-end files backed up, including IIS site files (except the web.cnfig file), SharePint hive files and extra file system files. When the ptin is used, bth file cntents and security permissins are restred. Otherwise, nly the file cntent is restred. Fr mre infrmatin n restring the backed-up Web Frnt-end files, refer t Appendix F Advanced Settings in Cnfiguratin Files. Restring Backed-up BLOB Data If yu selected t back up Strage Manger BLOB data r Cnnectr BLOB data, a crrespnding Strage Manager r Cnnectr nde is generated in the backup data tree under the crrespnding database. After selecting the Strage Manager r Cnnectr nde, click the View Details next t the nde t view detailed BLOB backup data fr the selected nde. After selecting the data t restre and cnfiguring the desired settings, the backed-up BLOB data will be restred back t the crrespnding Strage Path. *Nte: Only ne BLOB nde supprts the granular level restre. Restring Backed-Up Stub Database Select ne stub database t restre the backed up stubs. *Nte: Yu can nly select ne stub database t restre at a time. Yu cannt select multiple stub databases at the same time r select a cntent database at the same time fr restre. 1. Select a stub database nde frm the backup data tree. Click the View Details link beside the nde t view the detailed infrmatin abut this stub database, such as the Cntent Database Name, SQL Server, and Farm. 60

Click the Next buttn at the bttm-right crner t g t the Restre Settings page. 4. In the Restre Settings page, cnfigure the ptins accrding t yur requirements. Fr the detailed explanatin f each ptin, refer t the Building an In Place Restre Plan at Database. In this case, select Overwrite as the Restre Optin and click the Next buttn at the bttmright crner t g t the Schedule page. 5. In the Schedule page, cnfigure the schedule settings accrding t yur requirements. When yu select Cnfigure the schedule myself, the restre jb will be started at the specified Start time that yu cnfigure. Fr the detailed explanatin f each ptin, refer t Building an In Place Restre Plan at Database. In this case, use the default settings and click the Next buttn at the bttm right crner t g t the Overview page. 6. In the Overview page, yu can view all the previusly cnfigured settings. Once yu are satisfied with all the cnfiguratins, click Finish t start the Platfrm Restre jb. Restring Backed-Up Database Master Key If yu restre the backed-up database, the backed-up database master key will be restred tgether. While if yu want t nly restre the backed-up database master key, cmplete the fllwing steps: 1. Navigate t AvePint\DcAve6\Agent\data\SP2010\Platfrm n the Agent server included in the Agent grup. Open the SP2010PlatfrmCnfiguratin.xml file. 2. Find the RestreMasterKey frm the <Farm> attributes. T nly restre the database master key, set the value f RestreMasterKey t true. 3. Select the database frm the backup data tree, whse database master key that yu want t restre. 4. Select Nt Overwrite as the Restre Optin. 5. Run the Platfrm Restre jb t restre the backed-up database master key. 62

63 Deselecting the Restre Granular Cntent Feature Deselecting the Restre Granular Cntent checkbx disables granular cntent selectin. This restre methd can nly be used fr a Platfrm granular restre that is perfrmed at the site cllectin level, either in place r ut f place. If the whle site cllectin needs t be restred, it is recmmended that yu perfrm the restre at the site cllectin level and deselect the Restre Granular Cntent checkbx. In this case, the restre will be similar t an STSADM site cllectin level restre. It is faster and can maintain internal dcument IDs. *Nte: If yu d nt select Restre Granular Cntent, the tree in the Backup Data pane can nly be expanded dwn t the site cllectin level, s granular cntent cannt be selected. Restre Details fr Specific Farm Cmpnents The fllwing lists sme f the details and cnditins pertaining t restring the farm cmpnents. Cnfiguratin database This is the cre cmpnent f the SharePint farm. It can nly be restred using the Restre Database Only r Restring a Raw Database. The SharePint Cnfiguratin database can nly be backed up and restred if the backup/restre includes the SharePint Central Administratin Cntent database. It is als recmmended that yu restre the SharePint Central Administratin Cntent database tgether with the SharePint Cnfiguratin database t avid breaking the relatinship between these tw databases. Web applicatins Web applicatins can be selected frm the farm tree and restred; this includes the settings and assciated IIS sites. Cntent databases under Web applicatins are als restred, if selected. Hwever, if there are any changes t the IIS sites (resulting frm manual changes r third-party sftware), the IIS site backup n the frnt-end Member Agent will als need t be restred. Cntent databases Cntent databases include SharePint data such as site cllectins, sites, lists, libraries, files, and all items. When a cntent database is restred, DcAve autmatically attaches them t the riginal Web applicatin. SharePint slutins When a SharePint slutin is restred in place, the slutin will be restred with its deplyment status in the backup data. When a SharePint slutin is restred ut f place, the slutin will be restred t the related Web applicatin and set the status as Nt Deplyed. Depending n the custmizatins cntained in the SharePint slutin, the slutin may need t be re-cnfigured after the deplyment. Frnt-end resurces If nly ut-f-the-bx SharePint features are used, there is n need t restre the frnt-end resurces, as everything is cvered by the ther farm cmpnents. If there are manual custmizatins applied t the IIS site (including Web.cnfig), the IIS site shuld be restred. If custmizatins are self-cntained within the SharePint 14 hive flder, they can be restred as well. Bth IIS site files and 14 hive files can be restred ut-f-place t anther lcatin fr further examinatin. 63

64 *Nte: Certificates used by the IIS sites will nt be backed up when backing up the frnt-end resurces. Yu must manually backup and restre them. *Nte: Frnt-end resurces cannt be restred tgether with ther farm cmpnents. They need t be restred separately after any ther farm cmpnents are restred. 64

65 Perfrming a Disaster Recvery This sectin describes hw t perfrm a disaster recvery (DR) using full farm backup data frm the perspective f bth SharePint and DcAve. It des nt include hw t recver Active Directry (AD) r any ther cmpnents nt backed up by DcAve. Prir t perfrming this restre, the fllwing requirements must be met: The SharePint database and index backups must be available. At the DR site, all server tplgy shuld be identical t the prductin site, which includes bth the SharePint farm tplgy and DcAve tplgy. The system platfrm must als match the platfrm at the time f backup. Fr example, an x64 system shuld be used if an x64 system was used at the time f backup. *Nte: Yu must install the DcAve Agents n all f the servers (n matter SharePint servers r SQL servers) in the disaster recvery envirnment. *Nte: The SQL server cannt be installed n the SharePint server. Otherwise, yu will fail t restre the databases. All related sftware installed n the DR side shuld be the identical versin and the patch level as befre. Examples f related sftware are: SharePint, SQL Server, DcAve, as well as the.net Framewrk. The hstname f the surce and the destinatin shuld be the same. If yu use IP in the cnfiguratin, fr example, using IP t cnfigure DcAve Media service, the IP shuld be the same. Fr SQL, the instance name and alias f the surce and the destinatin shuld be the same, but the prt can be different. If yu install DcAve in ther places, yu shuld use identical hstname r IP fr DcAve. The prt can be different. There are several ways t achieve this. Fr example, a separate AD dmain fr the DR site can be used t keep the same server tplgy, r if the DR site des nt need t cexist with the prductin site, disk imaging r virtualizatin technlgy can be used t ensure the same tplgy is used. User permissins n bth the lcal server and SQL Server shuld be set t the same as befre. The DR site is in the same AD dmain as the riginal lcatin. After all servers are rebuilt and the preceding prerequisites are met, cmplete the fllwing steps: 1. Install all required sftware cmpnents (fr example, SQL Server). 2. Install SharePint but leave it un-cnfigured when perfrming an entire farm restre; the entire farm restre will cnfigure yur SharePint farm during the restre prcess. 3. Install DcAve Manager accrding t the steps listed in the DcAve 6 Installatin Guide. 65

66 *Nte: The imprted platfrm full backup data f the entire SharePint 2010 farm are supprted t perfrm the Farm Rebuild nly when the imprted data are backed up by Platfrm Backup and Restre f DcAve 6 SP1 r later versin. The imprted platfrm full backup data f the entire SharePint 2013 farm are supprted t perfrm the Farm Rebuild nly when the imprted data are backed up by Platfrm Backup and Restre f DcAve 6 SP3. *Nte: DcAve recmmends nt installing DcAve Manager n the SharePint server. When discnnecting SharePint farm, SharePint will autmatically restart the IIS site which will lead t the fact that the DcAve IIS site will be restarted as well. Install DcAve Agents accrding t the steps listed in the DcAve 6 Installatin Guide. 4. Perfrm a Farm Rebuild. Perfrming a Farm Rebuild After yu have backed up the whle farm using Platfrm Backup, yu can use the Farm Rebuild functin t perfrm a rebuilding f yur farm when it is crrupted. *Nte: DcAve recmmends nt installing DcAve Manager n the SharePint server. When discnnecting SharePint farm, SharePint will autmatically restart the IIS site which will lead t the fact that the DcAve IIS site will be restarted as well. *Nte: The backed up Web-Frnt-End Servers ndes will nt be restred during the farm rebuild, if necessary, restre the desired Web-Frnt-End Servers ndes after the farm rebuild. T perfrm the farm rebuild, the fllwing requirements must be met: A backup cpy f the data fr the entire farm (including the SharePint cnfiguratin database and the central administratin database) must be available. The SharePint server tplgy shuld be identical t the tplgy at the time f backup. The system platfrm must als match the platfrm at the time f backup. Fr example, an x64 system shuld be used if an x64 system was used at the time f backup. *Nte: Yu must install the DcAve Agents (n matter SharePint servers r SQL servers) n all f the servers in the farm rebuild envirnment. *Nte: The SQL server cannt be installed n the SharePint server. Filter By Limit the scpe f backup data t be restred by filtering ut specified full farm backup jbs. a. Plan Filter Filter the full farm backup data by plan infrmatin using this drp-dwn list. Farm Select a farm frm the drp-dwn list t display the plans fr that particular farm. Select All Farms t display all plans f all farms. Plan Name Select the plan that yu want t display frm the drp-dwn list. Select All Plans t display the jbs f all the plans. Restre granularity level Select the restre granularity level frm the drpdwn list; nly the backup jbs f the specified restre granularity levels are displayed. Select All Types t list the backup jbs f all levels. b. Jb Filter Limit the full farm backup jbs by jb type using this drp-dwn list. Backup type Select the backup type frm the drp-dwn list; nly the backup jbs f the specified types are displayed. Select All Types t list the backup jbs f all three types. c. Time Range Filter the full farm backup data by cmpletin time range using this drpdwn list. All Jbs Select this ptin t display all Finished/Finished with Exceptin Platfrm backup jbs. Backup jbs start within Select this ptin t specify a time perid. All f the Finished/Finished with Exceptin Platfrm backup jbs whse start time is in the specified time perid are displayed. After cnfiguring the three filters abve, click the Filter buttn in the Filter By area r n the ribbn t filter the backup jbs. All f the full farm backup jbs that meet all the filter rules are listed in the calendar. Yu can click Reset in the Filter By area r click Reset n the ribbn t clear all the filters and display all the Finished/Finished with Exceptin Platfrm backup jbs. Place the muse cursr ver the full farm backup jb, t display jb infrmatin such as the Plan Name, Jb ID, Backup Optin, Restre Granularity, Backup Methd, Create Persistent Snapsht, Index Status, Cpy Data, Jb Status and Data Imprt. Click n Day, Week, r Mnth t change the view t see all the available full farm backup jbs during that time perid. Click the page turning buttn at the tp-left crner t turn the page. Select the full farm backup jb that yu want t restre. 67

68 2. View View all the backed up SharePint cmpnents in the full farm backup jb. 3. Ntificatin Cnfigure the Ntificatin settings. Select a previusly cnfigured ntificatin prfile frm the Select a prfile with address nly drp-dwn list. Yu can als chse t create a new ntificatin prfile by clicking the New Ntificatin Prfile link. Click View t view the detailed cnfiguratin f the selected ntificatin prfile. 4. Discnnect Cnnectin Discnnect the cnnectins f all the SharePint servers in this farm. All the SharePint servers which have cnnected t the current farm will be displayed here. Manage clumns ( ) Manage which clumns are displayed in the list s that nly the infrmatin yu want t see will be shwn. Select the manage clumns buttn ( ), and then check the checkbx next t the clumn name t have that clumn shwn in the list. Hide the clumn ( ) Hver ver a clumn heading and then select the hide the clumn buttn ( ) t hide the clumn. Click Discnnect t discnnect the cnnectins f all the displayed SharePint servers frm this farm. If all the displayed SharePint servers have already been discnnected frm this farm, g t the next step directly. 5. Restre Database Restre all the backed up databases in the full farm backup jb. The databases are all restred with n attempt t cnnect them t the SharePint envirnment accrding t the selected restre ptin. *Nte: If yu want t restre the SQL Server lgins when restring the backed up database, enable the RestreLginsCnfig RestreLgins parameter in the SP2010PlatfrmCnfiguratin.xml file (the file is lcated in the DcAve Agent installatin path: \AvePint\DcAve6\Agent\data\SP2010\Platfrm by default) by setting its value t True (the default value is False, s by default, the SQL Server lgins will nt be restred when perfrming the restre jb). It is recmmended fr yu t use the database rle f Sysadmin t the SQL Server t restre the SQL Server lgins, in case any lgins in a high-level rle cannt be restred. Restre Setting Specify whether r nt t verwrite the riginal cntents if there is a cnflict between the riginal database name and that f the backed-up database. Nt Overwrite If a selected database in the backup has the same name as a database in the riginal farm, then the selected database in the backup is nt restred. Overwrite If a selected database in the backup has the same name as a database in the riginal farm, then the riginal database is deleted first and the database in the backup is then restred. 6. Select Restre t begin the restre prcess. After the restre f all the databases is finished, the restre status will be updated in the Status clumn and the checkbxes befre all the databases will becme selectable. When the restre f a specified database is failed, nly select this 68

69 database, specify the restre setting and perfrm the restre jb again. SharePint Cnfiguratin Cnfigure the settings required fr recnfiguring the restred SharePint farm. Yu must enter the passphrase fr this farm befre recnnecting all the servers back. Select the Specify Prt Number checkbx, and yu are able t change the prt used by the SharePint 2010/2013 Central Administratin. Fr nw, nly NTLM is supprted as the security authenticatin type. Click Validatin Test t verify the settings yu have inputted. 7. Cnnect Cnnect the cnnectins f all the SharePint servers back t this farm. All the SharePint servers which have been discnnected frm the current farm in Step 4 will be displayed here. Manage clumns ( ) Manage which clumns are displayed in the list s that nly the infrmatin yu want t see will be shwn. Select the manage clumns buttn ( ), and then check the checkbx next t the clumn name t have that clumn shwn in the list. Hide the clumn ( ) Hver ver a clumn heading and then select the hide the clumn buttn ( ) t hide the clumn. Click Cnnect t cnnect the cnnectins f all the displayed SharePint servers back t this farm. 8. Click Next. The Restre Index page appears. DcAve restres the backed up index cmpnents t the target farm. 9. Restre Index Restre all the index cmpnents f the search service applicatins backed up in the full farm backup jb. The details abut restring the index cmpnents are listed in the table. Select a desired number frm the Shw rws drp-dwn menu t specify the number f index cmpnents displayed per page. Select < r > t turn t the previus r next page. Select Restre t restre the selected index cmpnents again. Once the restre prcess is finished, the restre status f each index cmpnent will be updated in the Status clumn. 10. Overview View the current farm settings yu have cnfigured in Step Click Finish t finish the farm rebuild. 69

Of equal imprtance, hwever, is the underlying infrastructure f the SharePint deplyment, which cnsists f many platfrm-level cmpnents cupled tightly tgether t create a wrking envirnment. Since there are s many mving parts t a SharePint platfrm, a failure in any ne cmpnent culd adversely affect the entire envirnment. The SharePint administratr, Je, is facing a situatin in which his rganizatin s SharePint deplyment incurs a catastrphic failure. Je is nw faced with the task f restring his rganizatin s entire SharePint envirnment. Backing up the Entire SharePint Farm Prir t the SharePint farm ging dwn, Je had created and run scheduled Incremental backup jbs: Je selected the entire farm t back up and selected the Include New checkbx t ensure that newly-created bjects are backed up. Je chse t Use DcAve Platfrm Backup and Restre as the nly backup methd fr SharePint databases, and selected Perfrm lg backup after full backup t ensure that the lg file is truncated after the Incremental backup. Since the scheduled Incremental jbs were run during ff-business hurs, Je chse nt t Create Persistent Snapshts. Restring the Platfrm As a result f the catastrphic SharePint farm failure, Je must nw recver the entire farm using a platfrm-level backup. Due t dependencies between varius elements f the SharePint farm, this restratin prcess is usually a multi-step prcedure. After cmpleting this, Je can bring the frnt-end Web servers nline and cnnect them t the restred cnfiguratin database using the SharePint cnfiguratin wizard.
