It s mid semester here in the Nursing Program. No matter if you re just starting out or are finishing up your practicum, you re probably stressed. You hear it over and over again from professors - take care of yourself, and we know we should...yet we stay up all night reviewing for the NCLEX or cramming for Patho. We re all driven to succeed or we wouldn t have made it into this program, and that means we re all probably going to kill ourselves rather than take a break to cut ourselves some much needed slack. I recently got a job as a tech for WellStar, and at orientation I was seated at a table with several seasoned RNs. When I mentioned that I was still in school, all eyes turned to me with sympathy and a know-it-all, been-there-done-that smile. All of these nurses proceeded to talk about their time in nursing school - and they all remembered it in great detail. One woman had been out of school for over 10 years and looked at me laughing and said, I honestly don t know how I made it. They all talked about how it was one of the hardest, yet most rewarding times of their lives. I was even told by nice lady pursuing her Nurse Practitioner degree that the MSN was a cakewalk compared to what she went through getting her Bachelor s (but don t tell them you heard it from me!) We all know that we re deep in the trenches, and we re beating ourselves up to keep ahead. I m just as guilty as the next guy, but I just want to remind you guys that it really is crucial to stop and take a break for yourself from time to time. If it means getting a B instead of an A, it s probably not going to make a difference in the long run Take care of yourself and take time to give yourself a much needed pat on the back - we all deserve it! 2 Recent Events and Awards The SNA recently represented KSU at the state wide Georgia Association of Nurses (GANS) convention in downtown Atlanta, and it was a huge success! The SNA Publications Director, Leah Peterson, won both the Best Website and the Best Newsletter awards. Also, at the Friday night NCLEX Trivia Bowl, KSU beat out 21 other teams and won 1st place! Also, our KSU SNA President Lauren Cedor was elected as the President of GANS for the upcoming year. Overall, KSU students represented themselves and our school very well at the state level. If you would like to know more about how you can attend future conventions, please feel free to ask your class representative for more information or contact any of the other board members.

3 SNA Upcoming Events The holidays will be here before we know it, and Cobb Christmas Inc. is seeking volunteers for this years set up and toy distribution. Experience the true meaning of the holiday season at the Cobb Christmas warehouse. Volunteers are needed for this years set up and distribution at Jim Miller Park between Monday, December 9th and Sunday, December 15th (located at 2245 Callaway Rd SW, Marietta, GA 30008). A variety of days and times are available, so this is a great event that fits most schedules. There is a specific need for those fluent in Spanish to serve as translators. Please visit for more information and to sign up! Health Fairs are great opportunities to get hands-on experience and help the community. Saturday, November 9 th at the Chastain Meadows Wal-Mart we will be providing general health screens (BP, glucose testing, etc), and we need your help! Volunteers are needed from 10-2 or whenever you might be available. If not, please try and join us at our next meeting on Monday November 25 th, downstairs in Prillaman Hall. We always have free food and it's a great opportunity to learn and network. This past meeting we had 3 WellStar employees from their New Grad pipeline program come and talk about what they were looking for in recent graduates. 5 Food Drive Challenge! Did you know that MUST Ministries 3 food pantries give away a ton of food per day to those in need thanks to the donations of private citizens? Think your semester has what it takes to feed the masses? Well here s your chance to prove it! KSU SNA is having a food drive to feed those in need during the holidays. We are asking you to donate to this amazing cause. We will begin accepting cash donations on November 1 st ; however, your best chance at being able to give will be during the classes you share with your student representatives. They will be accepting your donations through November 19 th. If you would like to donate and don t have access to your rep, you can make your donation at the lab assistant desk on the 2 nd floor. The SEMESTER that brings in the most CASH will receive bragging rights AND donuts and coffee on the last day of lecture. Who doesn t want free donuts and coffee??
