4 4 P age FOOTNOTES SPOTLIGHT Hi! Our newsletter is back! As the incoming 1 st Vice President, I was asked to contribute to the newsletter and share my reasons for joining the LA chapter of the AWSCPA. I joined the LA chapter of the AWSCPA back in spring By my second meeting, I gratefully accepted the Treasurer nomination. Initially, I thought that joining the board would be a great opportunity to develop my networking skills and serving on a board would look good on my resume. Fast-forward to summer I m the 1 st Vice President of the LA chapter of the AWSCPA board. I had no idea that joining and serving on the board would be so much more than just networking and resume building. I ve met a great group of ladies with a wide variety of interests and experiences. I was given the opportunity to develop my leadership skills and new experiences, like writing this article. During the coming year, I look forward to gaining more board training and experience. The AWSCPA provides a supportive environment and valuable resources for members to achieve their personal and professional goals through various opportunities, including leadership, networking and education. Come to one of our fun and exciting upcoming events. Attend one of our board meetings. See for yourself how much the AWSCPA can do for you! -- Inna Littwin, CPA, 1 st VP, Board of Directors, Los Angeles Chapter Remember when Just a little history - For years I was VP Publications, (for the Los Angeles Affiliate and also on the National Board) before there was a practical way to send the newsletter by internet - we used to print the newsletter and send out a mailing by USPS several times a year. Our way of communicating was USPS in the "old days" - twenty years ago. -- Louise Teeter, CPA, Secretary, Board of Directors, Los Angeles Chapter Spotlight is the perfect place to introduce yourself, share experiences, and send encouragement to fellow members. If you are interested in being in our next spotlight or want to highlight a fellow member please a short article to Raven Davis at [email protected]. I look forward to sharing your story! Meet Caroline Macias I'm Caroline Macias, and I work at Raytheon in a finance leadership development rotation program. I went to Wellesley College for undergrad and majored in Mathematics and Japanese. Once I started working in corporate finance, I realized I needed more technical skills and got my certificate in Accounting from UCLA Extension and earned the CPA designation in Even though I really enjoyed accounting, I decided to go back to grad school and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2012 with an MBA. Long-term, I would like to get back in the accounting field, hopefully combining tax knowledge with financial planning for individuals, families, and businesses. I look forward to meeting other members of AWSCPA and hearing about their career paths and interests! -- Caroline Macias, CPA,MBA, AWSCPA Member, Los Angeles Chapter Meet Raven Davis Greetings fellow members! My name is Raven Davis and I joined AWSCPA Los Angeles about two months ago. I work at Kirsch, Kohn & Bridge in Encino, CA. I went to CSUN for my undergrad and Pepperdine for my MBA. In 2009 I became a CPA and in 2010 I become a CFE. I really look forward to meeting the amazing ladies at AWSCPA Los Angeles. -- Raven Davis, CPA,MBA,CFE, VP of Communications, Los Angeles Chapter
