Another way to touch base is to ask Cindy Brandt and Vernell Moncure to make a presentation about MFCC at your meeting. They know the history, operating programs and needs of our project, serving the community for over 56 years. They are a great team and also feature Eva Jordan and Martha Renfroe that makes it greater. Cindy and Vernell had warm receptions recently at Lake Travis UMW and First UMW when they put on their show and we are very grateful for generous funds as a result. The Miles scholarship awards are gratifying as they honor students in this area going to college or technical schools. Call Vernell at

2 to arrange a time for a visit to let everyone know about splendid volunteer opportunities. MORE ABOUT MILES SCHOLARHIP: Miles Scholarships are awarded to high school graduates living in Montopolis neighborhood. The Scholarships mean more than money, they are a token of support and encouragement from UM women. The following note from an awardee graduate says it all: "Dear Ms. Renfroe, I wanted to say thank you for the continuous support that Miles Scholarship provided my daughter. She graduated from UT at San Antonio last December. She has a great job here in Austin and is happy to be back. Sincerely. PS She is the first grandchild in our family to graduate from college. Your contributions to MFCC/Miles Scholarship made this happen. Thank you for your continued support. The children at Mothers Day Out program, Wed/Friday 9-4 PM. are looking forward to Christmas fun with colorful decorations, art work, and gifts. There are 10 children, 4 boys and 6 girls. Two more need paper work to attend. Manchaca Angel Tree ministry has a special gift for each, but if you would like to give a small gift for each and their siblings: color books. crayons, underwear sizes 3 &4, a few girls size 8 clothes, socks size 8, and a gift HEB card any amount would bring joy to the families. No stuffed animals or pencils, please. St. Johns UMC will have warm handmade caps for them. The deadline for gifts is WED DEC. 18 TH. The last day of the school is FRIDAY DEC 20th, ending with a festive time with parties.. Cindy and Linda Polomski from Oak Hill UMW recently were honored at their church with Special Recognition Mission Awards. We know they are deserving as they spend so much time at the Center plus other projects. Congratulations!!!!!!!

3 Director Deborah Laurel of the school needs praise for working hard on the many details of the license application to extend operation days of the school, which will need a new permit. Thank you Deborah. Also to teacher Olga Lira our 30 year staff member for lots of dedicated service in teaching - a big thank you. The Clothing Sales have been very good with many new young women customers. Regularly open two Saturdays a month, the store has added a third day when the large truck comes to our parking lot to distribute food from Capitol Area Food Bank and then shop for clothes. Oak Hill UMC volunteers and Hannah Circle St. John s members helped with the pressure of customers on NOV. 12 th. We need more help on Dec. 10 th from 9-11:30 when the truck comes again. FIRST SAT DEC. 7 TH, TUESDAY DEC. 10 TH, 3 RD SAT. DEC. 21 ST ARE DAYS that THE STORE NEEDS HELP. CALL BILLIE IF YOU ARE ABLE TO HELP. Funds from the 3 rd day amounted to $50 for the budget. Tracy Burger arranged for portable potties for that day to help with no demand for clean up with Colorado Hall rest rooms. Thank you Tracy. Emma Lea Mayton sent out a letter this month to all Units and friends to remember MFCC budget needs with end of the year gifts of money. Crestview UMW Bazaar shared their successful fund raising with a generous money gift that is so encouraging and appreciated for the new year. Necessary insurance premiums have taken a toll on our cash reserves. Any amount is welcomed. Margie says the Bingo items donated in the last month have made the senior participants very happy as they gather and play on the 2 nd and 3 rd Fridays. She says thank you. Walter Skinner has donated a scholarship to one of the students in the MDO class that enables him to keep attending. We have a web page that is getting new attention. 4 First UMC and the address is Check it out and think thank you. Chuck Moore is new to the Building Committee but had done many, many jobs without the title. He recently repaired a leak on a school toilet. He, Walter, and Tracy will update our front sign Maria Castro keeps the Colorado Hall rented full time and super clean. This brings a big help to our budget. Our sympathies go to families of ELAINE PARTRIDGE, Past President of MFCC in l978, ROSEMARIE ASHMORE, Sec. some years ago, and NANCY LANIER, Board Member a few years back. They were wonderful volunteers and spent many hours giving service. We are saddened for our loss.
