I would like to introduce myself, I am Megan Perkaj and I am your Michigan Nursing Student Association 1st Vice President for the term! Many of you are probably wondering what my position entails and why would you want to get involved with the MNSA. Well my role as the 1st Vice President is to serve as a resource to local chapters of the MNSA and provide information about bylaws, resolutions, legislative affairs and issues. In my position I also go through the bylaws and collaborate with the board to make amendments to the bylaws to better suit the Michigan Nursing Student Association. In the event of the absence of the President, the 1st Vice President assumes the duties of the President and would hold office in the event of vacancy. As the 1st Vice President I am honored to facilitate delegate hall and created the delegate handbook for the Annual House of Delegates meeting in February. It is important as a nursing student to get involved with healthcare policy and procedures because that is the foundation to all that we do as a nursing professional! It is important to use your voice and to learn about advocacy for healthcare policy and procedures which is utilized in providing healthcare. Getting involved with the Michigan Nursing Student Association provides an opportunity to interact with all the nursing schools throughout Michigan and allows your to advocate for your fellow nursing students! I am looking forward to seeing you all at the MNSA Annual Convention on February 6! 4 Convention Reminders Parking for Convention Due to another convention occurring at the Lansing Convention Center on the same weekend as Annual Convention and the limited parking, we have been graciously offered parking in the Gannon Parking Ramp by Lansing Community College. 5 Running for a MNSA Board Position: Are you interested in taking the next step to become a student nurse leader? The MNSA Board of Directors are elected annually at the Annual Convention to be held on February 6th and 7th in Lansing. Serving on the Board of Directors is a great way to learn and improve your leadership skills. It is also a great way to network with other student leaders across the state and looks great on a resume. Positions include: President 1st Vice President 2nd Vice President Treasurer Secretary Image & Breakthrough Director Membership Director Advertising Director Communications Director Community Health Director Nominations & Elections Director Newsletter Editor If interested in running for a MNSA Board position, a short bio and picture to Emmy Buchholz, Nominations & Elections Director, to nominations@michigannsa.org. The deadline for pre-slating is January 30. Steps to becoming a MNSA Board Member: Step 1: Learn about the different positions on Step 2: Get in contact with the position you prefer Step 3: Fill out the online application by the deadline Step 4: Prepare for the Annual Convention -Poster -Speech Step 5: Get elected by the house of delegates! Qualifications to run for a MNSA Board Member Position: -Active Membership with NSNA during projected term. -Enrolled as a nursing student for a minimum of 7 of the 12 term months. -In good standing with your school with a GPA higher than Available to attend Board Meetings and other MNSA events during term. -You may not run for a MNSA executive position if you will also be holding a Chapter executive position.
