2 FROM THE COMMANDER Comrades, I would like to first thank Carl for stepping up and putting out the Views. There have been some changes going on in the Post, to try and make things more efficient and cost effective. Members have been sitting at the bar and making comments and expressing their own ideas and views. However, that is not how things will get fixed. If you don t like how things are being done, fill out a complaint / suggestion form. Better yet attend a meeting and voice your opinions and get things resolved in the proper manner. Copies of the Post and Canteen by-laws posted along with the financial report for any member to review and see how things are running. I want to give a special thinks to all who have stepped up and helped with our programs and functions, while I m still on the mend. It has been difficult to operate in the manner I m used to and have done in the past. I can t name all of you, but I think you know who you are. Nominations and selection of your officers for have begun, so if you want to support anyone you can do so at the April meeting. Please remember they will be representing you in the community. The Post is well respected and we need to maintain that into the future. Lots of activities are coming up, so keep an eye on the signs in the Post, for dates and times. The new monitor on the wall behind the pool is updated daily. Also, the light boards all upcoming events. The main thing is we need your support, to perform our programs and functions that keep the post at the top where it belongs. Yours in Comradeship, Frank Emery Commander, Post 9401

3 Quartermaster s Corner I ll start off by thanking Jewels Borrelli for volunteering to help get the Views back into publication. As you can see, we have had to start from the ground up and construct an entirely new format for the Views which has caused even more delays and that is just since Dallas Emery and I first talked about resurrecting the newsletter. For the time being we will be publishing the Views on our website with the future intent of adding a subscription option to go directly to your . We ask for your continued patience and understanding as we continue to improve upon how we do things so that no one person can cause such a ruckus for us again. For now, the best way to keep updated on Post 9401 Activities and information is to visit By the time this edition of the Views is published, most of our winter visitors will have gone home and the Post will be entering into our summer seasonal activities. Thank you all for your continued support over the years and as you head home, we wish you a safe journey. The Post hopes to see you next season. Next time you see Steve Knock, thank him for the stepping forward to see that our PA system and Life Membership boards have been updated. The Life Membership boards will be ready and on display at the April 7 th Comrade meeting. The much needed new PA system will be used for outdoor ceremonies and activities as well as in support of Karaoke on Friday nights. Additionally, I d like to thank Bobby Dumont who has also lent his technical expertise to assist Steve with the PA system. I want to offer a special thanks to all of our staff, both employees and volunteers, who make this Post what it is. In this regard, I would like to encourage all of you to think about what it takes to run this post successfully. While it takes a lot of hard work from people who donate their valuable time and energy, it also takes a willingness to follow procedures and work within the confines of our bylaws, from National all the way down to Post level. Local, State and U.S. laws are also of concern in regards to our business license, insurance and could affect our Post charter. While our success is due to the selfless efforts of our volunteers, recent history has shown us that taking matters into your own hands is costly, counterproductive and causes more work for others. If you are interested and able, you do not have to be a bus-boy, waitress or bartender. However, please ask any your post officers or committee members what you could do to make the post even better. 4 FROM YOUR CANTEEN MANAGER Well everyone, greetings- we re back. It s been about a year since we stopped sending the Views. Thanks to our Quartermaster, Carl Piacitelli and Jewels for stepping up and volunteering for this task. I would like to start by acknowledging all of our winter visitors. We didn t get a chance to welcome you home and now it s time the time of the year we have to say good-bye. Thank you all for supporting our Post during your time here. We will miss you and look forward to seeing again next season. Have safe trips home, (your other homes, that is). We ve had a lot going on this past year. A fire caused us to close for a few weeks, new officers learning their new positions, gaining new friends and members, sadly losing a few. Many thanks to everyone who helped during these transitions. We ve had a couple of changes you should be aware of. Our Auxiliaries have united as one, VFW Auxiliaries. Our meetings are on the second Thursday of each month. I look forward to seeing you there. Also our House Committee meetings have been moved to the first Wednesday, of each month, starting in April. No March meeting. Upcoming schedule: Wednesday, 4/10/16 House Committee Meeting 3pm Sunday, 4/10/16 VFW Gold Tournament More events are in the works; check our website or signage at the Post for updates. I would like to thank all of our many volunteers for your help. As you know we couldn t do this without them. You are amazing. And, to our membership who continue to support our endeavors. 5 THE GAS BURNER Yes we still have a kitchen! Come down to the post for Sunday breakfast, Tuesday lunch, Wednesday open face Prime Rib sandwich, Thursday is Taco day, try our new fish tacos. 1 st and 3 rd Fridays Prime Rib, 2 nd baby back ribs, 4 th baked Pork Chops. We miss you! Some of our upcoming Food events: May 8 th Mother s Day Breakfast Buffet. Free Buffet and flowers for all Moms June 19 th Father s Day, Fathers eat for free Due to some major price increases, we will be making some menu price changes. Our quality will not change. I would like to say a fond goodbye to our special Friday night waitress Stacy Rodgers. I wish you good in your new venture. If you have a few free moments please consider a little volunteer time in our kitchen. Help doing dishes, bussing tables, cooking, silverware, potato wrapping or general cleaning. 6 Auxiliary President What an exciting year this has been. I would like to thank everyone for their support. The Auxiliary could not have done it without you and once again I ve been proud to be your Auxiliary President this year. It s time again for elections. We will be having nominations and elections in our April meeting. If you are interested in running for office or considering taking a chairmanship and have any questions, please talk to one of our officers. We will answer any questions you may have. Department Convention is coming! This year convention is June 8 th thru June 12 th, The tentative convention schedule will be posted. Again, thank you everyone for your support this year!! 7 Auxiliary Treasurer Auxiliary Members, As some of you are aware, there have been changes within the VFW and the Auxiliary. For instance, there is no longer a Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW. We are now the VFW Auxiliary, and comprised of men and women. The Men s Auxiliary to Post 9401 voted to disband, so those of you who were members of that organization no longer have membership as of Dec. 31, You may want to join the VFW Auxiliary; be aware that it is a separate organization and you must fill out an application and show proof of eligibility and pay dues. You are now eligible for Life Membership. Proof of eligibility comes in many forms; it does not have to be a DD-214. Other documents may be acceptable, such as pay records showing imminent danger or hostile fire. So far this year, we have signed up 94 new members, 67 of those were men. I m so glad to welcome all of you to our Auxiliary. Some of our new members are attending the meetings and we re happy to have them. Everyone is welcome to attend the meetings which are on the second Thursday of the month at 6pm. We will be having elections for new officers at out April meeting. Any member in good standing is eligible to hold office. (Meaning dues are up to date) Thank you to our Post new Quartermaster, Carl Piacitelli, for updating the Post website. Hopefully, we can start getting information to members through this venue. Carl has added printable applications on the web site for both the VFW and the Auxiliary.
