News Letter Students here is your chance to give back to your community and help a vulnerable population in the Colorado Springs area The BSNA is volunteering at the Marian House Soup Kitchen and we need your help When: December 19th Where: 14 West Bijou St, Colorado Springs, CO (Downtown) Time: 7am 2pm Details: *From 7am-10pm you will be prepping the food (cooking) for the days lunch then from 10am-2pm you ll be serving the lunch to guests. *Please note that depending on how many volunteers sign-up we might split up into two groups. Please contact Courtney James to sign up [email protected] As a volunteer it is important that you read the message below. All volunteers for any BSNA sponsored event are to abide by the Beth-El Student Handbook. As representative of Beth-El and UCCS... Volunteers shall be on time for their shift. Volunteers shall stay for the duration of their shift and not leave early. Volunteers shall act in a courteous and professional manner Volunteers shall dress in a modest and non-offensive manner and attire should be appropriate for the event. Coming soon: Build-A-Bear Fundraiser! On February 8th we will be having our 3rd Annual Build-A-Bear Fundraiser. Join us at the Build- A-Bear in Chapel Hills Mall and make a bear to donate to the Children s Hospital at Memorial Central. Help make a sick child in the hospital smile and feel loved. The 2015 Beth-El career fair will be held on Monday March 16th from 11:30-2:30! National Student Nurses Association Convention When: April 8-12th, 2014 Where: Sheraton Phoenix Downtown in Phoenix, Arizona Why: Each April, approximately 3,000 nursing students gather in a major city to attend educational programs, participate in leadership and professional development activities, attend a keynote and endnote address, plenary sessions, focus sessions, association activity seminars, an auction to support nursing scholarships, and exhibits. This is a great opportunity to meet other nurses and nursing students from around the country, learn about nursing from different viewpoints, broaden your nursing knowledge, network with professionals, attend a NCLEX review, and bond with other nursing students! These slides include pictures from the Traditional Seniors and the Accelerated Class #11. This year we would like to get an early start. If you have any pictures you have taken at clinical, in class, or that you feel would be good for the slide show please send them to the [email protected]

3 GET INVOLVED! On Sunday, November 16th Beth-El nursing students and instructors supported the men and women that have served our country, by volunteering in the First-Aid tent. The National Veteran s Day 5k was held at Memorial Park. By the time the race had started the temperature had dropped in to the 20s, needless to say volunteers were cold. We drank hot chocolate, compliments of the BSNA, and cheered on the racers, no triage was needed. Thank you to all those who volunteered to come to Mountain Lion Exchange on Friday, November 14th. A lot of future Beth-El students came to tour the school. We gave them a tour of the classrooms, SIM Lab, Upper Lab, Lower Lab, shared stories from our college experience and answered a lot of their questions. The future students and their parents learned a lot and will hopefully be joining us at Beth-El soon. These students had the opportunity to ask BSNA members about the nursing program and what it takes to be accepted and succeed in the program. The students were also given the opportunity to handle some of the equipment that nurses use in their practice. One of the most exciting parts of this visit was the chance BSNA members had to share their favorite parts of nursing school and their most memorable experiences in clinical situations! We hope to have many more experiences like this one and hope that each of you will take the opportunity to join us in motivating future nursing students!

Take a look she has some really great tips, and shares some of her useful resources, including more brain sheets. Figure 1 Medical Images Library As you all may or may not have known, I am Beth-El s student ambassador for Figure 1 Medical Images Library, and I am currently trying to sign as many people up as possible. The Figure 1 community is really great for seeing pictures of things you WILL see in your career as the amazing nurses you re all going to be, and having the real images will help you better prepare.
