1 Easy Ft Sren-Based Alarm system (EF-BX) Installaton Programmng Operatng Keep ths manual safe for reference and future mantenance Introducton Contents Thank you for choosng the Yale Wreless Alarm System. Ths smple to nstall system has been desgned wth the user n mnd. All the components are self contaned and no connectons are needed between the unts. There s no need to damage the home decor, lft carpets or run cables. You can nstall up to 20 devces n ths system. As well as extra door/wndow contacts, PIRs and smoke detectors, you can add keyfob remote controls and keypads for added control convenence. There s no need to wre nto the mans supply or seek the servces of a qualfed electrcan. All components are powered by battery (all batteres ncluded). Batteres wll operate for 2 years or more before they need changng. Regular testng and battery changes (when notfed by the system) wll ensure relablty and peace of mnd. Each part of the system s tamper protected. Any unauthorsed tamperng wth the system wll result n an alarm. Ths feature can be turned off by the user when a battery change s requred. The system has a fxed 20 second entry/ext tme when use wth a Keypad. Ths feature allows you tme to leave the home when armng the system. Upon enterng, the feature allows tme to dsarm the system wthout causng an alarm. Please note there are no countdown when usng a Keyfob to arm or dsarm. When the sren s trggered, t wll sounds for 10 mnutes. Contents 1 Locaton plannng 2 2 Unpackng the system 3 3 Programmng the system 5 4 Mountng alarm devces 6 5 Usng the system 8 Addng accessores 10 Changng the batteres 11 Specfcatons 13 Trouble shootng 14 Recommended Installaton Sequence We recommend you follow the easy start sequence, headngs numbered 1-5. Dsplay extreme cauton when usng ladders or steps, please follow manufacturer nstructons. Be careful when usng hand and power tools and follow the manufacturers gudelnes when usng them. Take care that the correct tools are used. Wear goggles or protectve clothng where requred. The external Sren s extremely loud, please ensure you replace the cover and retreat to a safe dstance before testng. Specal Notes on Compatblty: Ths alarm system s NOT compatble wth SmartHome Alarm, HSA6000 seres and HSA3000 seres accessores. Please note the prefx EF- on the front of the part number to ndcate compatblty. Informaton and llustratons are subject to change wthn ths document. 2 Yale Yale Yale Locaton plannng 1Work out the best places to locate the devces for maxmum protecton. Havng chosen the locatons do not mount at ths stage. Operatng range All devces must be wthn 30 metres of the sren unt and must not be mounted on or near large metal objects. Avod obvous sources of electrcal nterference such as frdges and mcrowave ovens. Tamper swtches When mountng devces ensure that any tamper swtches close fully. On uneven surfaces t may be necessary to place packng behnd the swtch for relable operaton. Sren Choose a poston on an external wall where the sren would be most promnent. Mount as hgh as possble, out of easy reach. (Round shaped sren shown) Help button accessory The help button provdes extra protecton for you and your famly. When help s needed the button can actvate your alarm mmedately - even when the system s dsarmed. Mount on flat wall surface Desgned for ndoor use only Out of reach of chldren Hdden from vew whle easly accessble. Smoke detector Mount n the mddle of the celng at the top of a starwell, or on the centre of hallway celngs where smoke would most lkely be detected. Do not mount n corners or above cookng applances and heaters. Install addtonal detectors f there are closed doors preventng smoke from reachng detectors. Door/Wndow contacts Use one door/wndow contact on a door that s used as the man pont of entry and ext, usually your front door. The other door/wndow contact can be used to protect another entry pont such as a rear door. Mount as hgh as possble. Do not am a PIR at ths door or wndow. R Yale Keyfob remote control accessory Can be used outsde the premses and kept on your keyrng. PIR movement detectors Mount n a poston such that an ntruder would normally move across a PIRs feld of vew. Heght should be between 1.9 and 2 metres above floor level. Locaton n a corner wll ensure wder room coverage. Do not mount a PIR where ts feld of vew wll be obstructed e.g. by curtans, ornaments etc. Do not pont drectly at sources of heat e.g. fres or bolers, and do not poston drectly above radators. Avod mountng a PIR drectly facng a wndow. Do not pont a PIR at a door protected by a door/wndow contact. Keypad remote control The keypad should be sted next to the man pont of entry/ ext so that the system can be dsarmed/armed wthn 20 seconds of enterng/leavng the premses. Ensure that the keypad s not vsble from the outsde of the premses. Mount at chest heght for ease of use. Desgned for ndoor use only. Extend the system Extend the system n the future to ncrease your securty or as your needs change. For example, add extra PIR detectors n bedrooms and extra door/wndow contacts (20 devces n total, ncludng keypad). 2
3 Unpack all the parts on a table top The easest way to get to know the system and get t up and runnng quckly s to get all the 2devces and accessores programmed on a table top before locatng and mountng them. 5 3 Programmng the Sren-based system (wthout control panel) The sren s the heart of the system. All components must be recognsed by the sren. 1 WARNING The sren s very loud, be prepared! Take care not to actvate the sren tamper swtch unnecessarly. Swtch the sren s power swtch to ON (The LEDs wll now flash wth one short beep.) 2 SETTING Enable/dsable Jammng & nterference detecton: Set Dp swtch 2 for nterference detecton. Swtch On to enable and Off to dsable (recommended default). Once powered, the sren wll enter learn mode for 3 hours. All tamper protectons are dsabled wthn ths tme perod. Please ensure that ALL devces are ftted before ths mode expres. The system s pre-learnt n the factory and the system should recognsed all the tems (wthn ths kt) as default. Ths unt s equpped wth the latest type of rado recever usng FM rado technology. If the system s armed any crmnal attempt to nterfere detector transmssons wll trgger an alarm. If the alarm s frequently trggered by nterference there may be hgh levels of unusual rado sgnals n your area. Some knds of electronc equpment can generate ths knd of rado nterference. In the unlkely event of you experencng problems wth nterference, t s recommended that you swtch nterference detecton off. If the tems are not recognsed, deleted by accdent or purchased accessores, please press learnt/acton buttons on the accessores (when the power swtch s frst turned on and under learn mode) to learn each one nto the system.
