1 Recycling Statin Guidelines: Each flr f new cnstructin r significant renvatin prjects shall prvide dedicated space fr recycling lcated fr the cnvenience f the ccupants. The Prject Manager will crdinate with UVA Recycling t determine additinal recycling space requirements suitable fr the tenants and/r functins f the prject. The Prject Manager r Cnstructin Administratin Manager shall crdinate with UVA Recycling n waste and recycling remval lcatins and cnstructin recycling pprtunities fr all cnstructin prjects. The Prject Manager r Cnstructin Administratin Manager shall frward dcumentatin n diverted waste frm all cnstructin prjects t UVA Recycling. Recycling Statins fr Transient Occupants: Prvide built-in recycling and trash statins at key lcatins in crridrs/public spaces (i.e. utside f large classrms/auditriums) and at lcatins cnvenient t majr entries and exits t the building. Built-in recycling and trash statins shuld be available n every ccupied flr f the building. Prvide fur penings - ne white paper recycling, ne mixed paper recycling, ne can/bttle recycling, ne trash. Openings shuld be apprximately 10 diameter with a stainless steel lip insert/trash chute, as shwn in the detail belw. Openings will be centered ver trash receptacles which are 30 tall withut lid, 12 wide and 20 deep. Tp f cunter height f built-in trash and recycling statins shall nt exceed 38 abve flr, and pening lcatins shall cmply with ADA reach range requirements. Prvide a backsplash (4 high minimum) as shwn in the detail belw. Prvide tw base cabinets t stre the fur trash receptacles, as shwn in the detail belw. If pssible, prvide an additinal base cabinet (with adjustable shelf) t the left r right f the receptacles. This base cabinet can be narrwer than the cabinets used fr the trash receptacles, as shwn in the detail belw. N pening is required in the cuntertp fr the spare cabinet. Signage will be prvided by UVA.

4 Recycling Statins fr Full Time Occupants: Prvide space in all cpy rms and kitchenettes fr the trash, and tw recycling cntainers (recycling cntainers: 32" tall with lid, 12" wide and 20" deep) t be lcated side by side. Anywhere a trash receptacle is designated, prvide a recycling receptacle as well. On each flr prvide a casewrk cabinet r a ftprint fr a standalne cabinet fr the cllectin and strage f recyclable paper. On larger prjects, ne cllectin cabinet shuld be prvided fr each department r functinal area n each flr. The cllectin cabinets are serviced with large wheeled carts. These carts will interrupt the flw f peple, s the cabinets shuld be lcated ut f hallways and circulatin areas. Lcatins like cpy rms and break rms are preferred. The recyclable paper bxes are 11 high, 9 wide and 15 deep and are cnstructed f cardbard. The building ccupants leave the full recyclable paper bxes in the cabinets fr UVA Recycling t pick up. The ccupants swap their full bxes and take empty bxes fund in the cabinet. Weekly, UVA Recycling cmes by and empties the full bxes, leaving empty bxes. UVA Recycling will prvide cardbard bxes fr the recyclable paper. Prvide casewrk r freestanding cabinets t hld at least 12 paper recycling bxes, with multiple equally spaced shelves (14 high). One large dr is preferred t multiple smaller drs. Prvide latching dr hardware. Recycling cabinets shall be designated as Recycling Cabinet n the Architectural drawings. Recycling bxes can be quite heavy when full. Typical recycling cabinets have shelves frm flr height t head height t accmmdate a variety f users. It is expected that each full time building ccupant will have tw bxes (mixed & white paper) at his r her ffice. Because full time building ccupants empty their bxes infrequently, the ttal recycling cabinet strage capacity shuld be less than tw bxes per building ccupant. If casewrk cabinets cannt be prvided, designate a ft print fr a UVA-prvided standalne cabinet. The standalne cabinets are 72 high, 36 wide and 18 deep. The standalne cabinets have fur equally spaced shelves. The ftprint fr the cabinet shuld be designated as Recycling Cabinet: Owner Prvided Cntractr Installed in the Architectural drawings. Signage will be prvided by UVA. Recycling Receptacles fr Building Exterirs: - Anywhere an exterir trash can is prvided, prvide a crdinating, equally sized recycling receptacle. - All exterir waste/recycling receptacles shuld be indicated n Landscape and Civil drawings. - All exterir waste/recycling receptacles shuld be included in the same specificatin divisin as ther landscape furnishings. University standard receptacles will be prvided by UVA Landscaping alngside ther landscape furnishings, at the prject s expense. - Signage will be prvided by UVA.
