1 STUDENT EXHIBITION INVITATION Frist Center for the Visual Arts 2014 Statewide: Young Tennessee Artist Upper Level Studio Art Dear AP or IB Studio Art Teacher: The Frist Center for the Visual Art s fifth biennial Young Tennessee Artists exhibition will take place from November 7, 2014, through March 8, Students currently participating in Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate studio art programs are invited to submit artworks for this exhibition. If your students meet the eligibility requirements (see the attached Exhibition Fact Sheet), we hope you will inform them of this exciting opportunity and encourage them to participate. The enclosed Exhibition Fact Sheet describes the submission requirements, and the following timeline is provided to help you guide students through this process Young Tennessee Artists Exhibition Schedule Monday, February 3, 2014: Early Teacher Commitment Forms due Friday, May 16, 2014: Digital Artwork submissions digitally due Friday, May 23, 2014: Exhibition juried by university educators, artists, and curators Friday, May 30, 2014: Students and Teachers notified of selected artworks July 7 11, 2014: Selected artworks mailed or delivered to Frist Center Friday, November 7, 2014: Exhibition opens Friday, December 19, 2014: Artist Reception Sunday, March 8, 2015: Exhibition closes The Frist Center is excited to showcase the best of Tennessee s AP and IB studio art programs, and we look forward to receiving your students artwork submissions in digital format. 2 2014 Statewide Young Tennessee Artists Upper Level Studio Art Exhibition Fact Sheet About the Frist Center: Located in Nashville, the Frist Center for the Visual Arts is a nonprofit art exhibition center, with approximately 24,000 square feet of gallery space, dedicated to presenting the finest visual art from local, state, and regional artists, as well as major U.S. and international exhibitions. About the Conte Community Arts Gallery: While the Frist Center brings the finest art from all over the world to Nashville, there is an abiding commitment to connecting with the community. The major entryway into the Frist Center, the Conte Community Arts Gallery, has been dedicated to finding, creating, and making connections with the community. The 2014 Young Tennessee Artists exhibition will be displayed in this space. About the 2014 Young Tennessee Artist exhibition: Up to thirty-five works will be selected to represent the best artwork by students who are currently participating in Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate studio art programs throughout Tennessee during the academic year A panel of university educators, artists, and curators will select artwork for the exhibition from digital submissions. Selected artworks must be mailed or delivered to the Frist Center between July 7 and 11, The Frist Center will mat and frame all works selected for display. The exhibition will be on view from November 7, 2014, through March 8, All selected student artists, their families, and teachers will be invited to a reception to celebrate the exhibition. Eligibility Requirements: High school students currently participating in a certified College Board AP or IB studio art program during academic year are invited to submit artworks for this exhibition. Submission Requirements: Each student may submit up to 10 digital images of two-dimensional work(s) (no more than 10 artworks total) completed for an AP or IB studio art portfolio during the academic year. Maximum work size is 24 x 36. Students may also submit a digital short film up to 10 minutes in length on CD or DVD. Due to exhibition space limitations, no threedimensional work will be accepted. Do not send actual works. Please refer to the submission process on the following page.

3 Easy 3-Step Submission Process: Step 1: Save digital images to a CD. Save your hi-resolution digital images to a CD. Title each image file with your last name and a corresponding inventory number to indicate the order in which the images should be viewed (for example, smith.1 ). Label the CD with your name, address, phone number, and school name. Step 2: Create an inventory sheet. Create a corresponding inventory sheet with the title, date, medium, size, and a brief two-sentence statement about each piece. All information should be formatted as shown in attached the sample inventory sheet. The 2012 exhibition gallery guide is also available for reference. Save the inventory sheet as a Word document on the same CD. Step 3: Mail your submission packet. Each submission packet should include: o CD containing the digital images and the corresponding inventory sheet. o A print out of the digital images and the corresponding inventory sheet. If your artwork is selected for the exhibition, instructions about how to send your work will be mailed with your acceptance letter. Submission Confirmation: You will receive confirmation once your submission packet has been received. Please follow up with us if you do not receive confirmation within 3 days of mailing your packet.

I chose to only use a gray scale because to me that says timeless. I wanted to show that the innocence that is so obvious when are children can be seen again at any age.
