1 Dear School Representative: We are writing to you from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology to introduce the Save Our Schools (S.O.S) program, whose goal it is to reduce youth violence in our community. We would like to invite your students to participate in our first annual antiviolence poster competition. The schools that have been selected to participate are those who are committed to helping create viable solutions to this issue and have also been impacted the most by violence. We are hosting this campaign to encourage students to artistically express how violence has impacted them both indirectly and directly. We will be hosting an art exhibit to display all entries on April 22 nd. The following prizes will be awarded to the three selected artworks that best convey the non-violence message of S.O.S.: 1 st Place- Computer w/adobe photo-shop & $75 gift certificate to an art supply store 2 nd Place- Digital Camera & Photo Printer & $50 gift certificate to an art supply store 3 rd Place- Flip Camera & $25 gift certificate to an art supply store A 4 th Prize Viewers Choice Award will be presented to the student voted best of show by exhibit attendees Currently, S.O.S is providing in-school life skills education and other wrap-around services for CPS high school students and their families (i.e., job skills development, job shadowing/mentoring, and a media campaign). The purpose is to gain insight into the experiences of the students in order to identify their unique needs and provide education and support that promotes a sense of community and fosters positive youth development. Save Our School Children inaugural event was held on December 2nd in the form of a town hall meeting that was held at our downtown campus. Over 100 attendees, including students, family members, local law enforcement, and community leaders, came to support the mission of the S.O.S. initiative. We invite you to join in our efforts to help reduce the number of lives lost each year to senseless acts of violence. Enclosed are the rules for the competition. We ask that you distribute the materials to the students in a timely manner so they may have every opportunity to participate. Feel free to make copies of application, consent form, and rules and regulations for distribution. Please feel free to contact us with any questions in regards to this event. We can be reached at [email protected] or Many thanks from the S.O.S. Community Outreach Committee!
