We are looking for a teacher who can show outstanding practice within the classroom to cover maternity leave which is likely to be up to one year. The post would suit newly qualified and experienced teachers. We are an active member within the Transform Teaching School Alliance and enjoy strong links with the other Anglican primary schools within Nottingham under the Executive Headship of Mrs Rebecca Meredith. We work closely with the local Parish Church of St Wilfrid and also with The Nottingham Emmanuel School. We have a strong Christian Ethos and continue to look for ways of developing this further The role is temporary in the first instance to enable increased capacity within the leadership team. Pending a review of future staffing there may be a need for this role on a permanent basis. We envisage a large part of the role will be with Year 5, but also working across Years 3 and 4. The post will be based within Key Stage 2 initially. 5 Page 5 Job Description Job title: Class Teacher Post: Class Teacher (KS2 initially) Pay Scale: Main Scale Responsible to: Head of School Job purpose: To undertake the teaching of primary subjects, in accordance with the School Teachers Professional Standards. To teach and plan an effective curriculum for a KS1 class as well as pastoral and administrative duties in respect of pupils in this class The post holder: Is responsible for the supervision of the work of teaching assistants based in the class. Interacts on a professional level with colleagues and seeks to establish and maintain productive relationships with them in order to promote mutual understanding of subjects in the school curriculum with the aim of improving the quality of teaching and learning in the school. Knowledge and understanding Have knowledge of and keep up to date with the Curriculum guidance for Key Stage 1 National Curriculum and the Agreed Syllabus for RE. Understand how pupils learning is affected by their physical, intellectual, emotional and social development and to understand the stages of child development. Be familiar with the school s current systems and structures as outlined in policy documents, including the Health and Safety and Safeguarding policies. Understand and know how national, local comparative and school data, including National Curriculum test data can be used in professional and school development. Planning, teaching and class management Plan and deliver, with regard for the school s aims, own policies and schemes of work, the teaching programme for all children within the class, using clear differentiation. Provide clear structures for lessons and for sequences of lessons, which maintain pace, motivation and challenge. Make effective use of assessment information on pupils attainment and progress and in planning future lessons. Ensure effective teaching of whole classes, groups and individuals, establishing high expectations of behaviour and attainment, so that teaching objectives are met. Monitor and intervene when teaching to ensure sound learning and discipline and maintain a safe environment in which pupils feel confident. Use a variety of teaching and learning styles to keep all pupils engaged. Be familiar with the Code of Practice and identification, assessment and support of pupils with SEND. Demonstrate a commitment to evidence based teaching, evaluating your own teaching critically to improve effectiveness.
6 Page 6 Monitoring, assessment, recording, reporting and accountability Assess and record each pupil s progress systematically with reference to the school s current practice, including the social progress of each child and use the results to inform planning. Mark and monitor class work and homework, providing constructive feedback and setting targets for future progress. Set regular, ambitious yet achievable targets for the children. Provide reports on individual progress to the Headteacher, Governors and parents as required. Other professional requirements Establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents and colleagues across the school and its partnership. Participate as required in meetings with professional colleagues and parents in respect of the duties and responsibilities of the post. Be aware of the need to take responsibility for your own professional development. Participate in duty rosters, including leading Collective Worship Participate in the school s arrangements for performance management and other professional development activities. Safeguard the health and safety of all children.

In addition, the Class Teacher might have had experience of teaching across the primary age range Knowledge and understanding Skills The Class Teacher should have a good knowledge and understanding of: - National Curriculum for Key Stages 1 and 2 - The ability to plan effectively for differentiated tasks and activities; - Assessment for Learning strategies; - Effective teaching and learning styles and being creative in delivery; - The ethos of a church school. The Class Teacher will be able to: - Develop good personal relationships within the school team; - Establish and develop good positive relationships with parents, governors and the community; - Communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) to a variety of audiences; - Create a happy, challenging and effective learning environment that is purposeful, well organised and stimulating; - Participate in the full life of the school, being involved and committed to the delivery of extra-curricular activities. In addition, the Class Teacher might also have knowledge and understanding of: - Intervention strategies to improve individual performance; - The effective use of digital media to enhance teaching and learning; - Ability to plan using a crosscurricular approach to a topic.
8 Page 8 Terms and Conditions Salary: Main or Upper Pay Range Salary will be paid in accordance with the provisions in the School Teacher s Pay and Conditions Document Place of work: South Wilford Endowed CE VA Primary School, Main Road, Wilford, Nottingham, NG11 7AL. You may also be required to work on other sites. Hours: In accordance with the School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document. Directed Time is 1265 hours for full time employees. Annual leave: No entitlement to annual leave. Leave in accordance with the Conditions of Employment for School Teachers in England and Wales (2000) The Burgundy Book. Pension: Automatic enrolment into the Teacher s Pension Scheme.

In addition to candidates ability to perform the duties of the post, the interview will also explore issues relating to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, including: Motivation to work with children and young people Ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children and young people Emotional resilience in working with challenging behaviours Attitudes to use of authority and maintaining discipline The interview will include observation of a teaching activity, questions from the school council and a formal interview with school leaders, including the Executive Headteacher, Head of School and a governor.
