3 Information about Millbridge Junior and Infant School Dear Applicant, Thank you for taking the time to consider applying for the role of Higher Level Teaching Assistant at Millbridge Junior, Infant and Nursery School. As Headteacher I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about the context of our school. We are situated close to Heckmondwike town centre within a culturally diverse community of Kirklees. There are 334 pupils on roll including Nursery. The vision at Millbridge JIN is a simple one: to equip all our children with the skills they require for successful and happy future lives. Through holistic and creative learning gain a wide range of experiences which celebrate diversity and instil a sense of empathy so they are respectful and tolerant of others views. To nurture a sense of confidence, competence and passion so all are able to express their feelings and opinions in an articulate and open manner. To have the courage to take a chance rather than to choose the easy option; to try challenges and develop new skills even when success is not guaranteed. To develop persistence and resilience to deal with challenging situations throughout life, be solution finders, problem solvers who will go on to have a positive impact in the world. To take their skills and become contented, confident adults who recognise beauty in the world and share its gifts of joy. Our main challenge is to raise the standards of achievement of our pupils by capitalising on the existing strengths of the school. 6 Grade: 8, Spinal Point Job Description for Higher Level Teaching Assistant Contract: 30 hours per week, Term Time Plus 1 Week, Permanent Responsible to: Headteacher RESPONSIBILITIES: The Higher Level Teaching Assistant will: Facilitate and encourage learning which enables pupils to achieve; to share responsibility for the wellbeing, education and discipline of all children. Demonstrate a commitment to positive behaviour management throughout school. Jointly plan, deliver, monitor and evaluate programmes of education for a class of children as allocated by the Head Teacher DUTIES To undertake professional duties including: Working in partnership with support staff, pupils and other colleagues in school To follow the policies and schemes of work of the school, having regard for the materials and methods recommended Planning individually and as part of a team Reviewing and maintaining resources and a high quality learning environment in this area Recording pupils progress and attainments in accordance with school policy and maintaining relevant data tracking systems in line with the school Assessment Policy To keep an up to date knowledge of the relevant National Curriculum and attend relevant INSET To consult with the SENCO in developing Additional Needs Plans for pupils on the Special Needs Register when necessary PASTORAL 1. To be responsible for all children in school in line with the school s Safeguarding procedures 2. To care for the physical and emotional welfare of children, having high regard for health and safety and all aspects of Safeguarding in line with School and LA Policy both on school premises and elsewhere 3. To establish and maintain positive relationships with parents and representatives from all support agencies 4. To report to the Designated Senior Person (DSP) or Deputy DSP any child about whom they are concerned

7 GENERAL 5. To promote equal opportunities ensuring that, specifics of gender, race, class, ability and disability are treated in a positive and non-discriminatory manner 6. To attend meetings with colleagues, parents and outside agencies as directed by the Headteacher 7. To adhere to safe working practices and to report any dangerous events or equipment to the relevant person 8. To carry out any other duties appropriate to the level expected of a teacher on standard scale relating to the efficient organisation of the school 9. To participate in Performance Management as required by Government Regulations Job Description and Specific Duties 1. To work with school Senior Leadership Team (SLT) in the use of school tracking and assessment procedures to identify children in need of the support of the Reading Recovery (RR) programme. 2. Use the RR Observation Survey to build a profile of the knowledge and skills of the child to inform the teaching. 3. Provide individualised teaching to identified children. 4. Maintain close and regular links with the class teachers of children receiving RR, to ensure that progress is maintained and independence promoted in whole-class lessons. 5. Plan for the exit from the programme and support the SLT in monitoring the progress of children who have been discontinued from the programme. 6. Maintain careful records on each child as a basis for instruction (lesson records, running records, records of reading and writing vocabulary, record of book level, Observation Survey, including summary, predictions of progress, diaries etc.). 7. Communicate with SLT, teachers and teaching assistants, providing documentation, and explanations, feedback on progress and alignment of planning. 8. Compile and submit data to the SLT as required. 9. Work with colleagues in school to support effective practice in the teaching of early reading. 10. Welcome other staff to observe RR lessons. 11. Keep abreast of developments in the teaching of early reading. 12. Share knowledge and expertise with other teachers and teaching assistants to support whole-staff development and learning. 13. Communicate with parents/carers on their role in the programme, ensuring full attendance and their support with daily tasks for the child. 14. Manage resources needed to teach the session effectively. 15. Ensure that the room is always prepared for the individual child/ small group. 16. Support the senior leadership of the school in identifying other additional interventions programmes to be provided. In addition to the above, undertake other duties within the general character of the post as requested by the school leadership team.

Relevant professional development Evidence of further studies Knowledge & understanding Experience Skills & attributes Full working knowledge of relevant policies/codes of practice/legislation. Working knowledge of the National Curriculum and other relevant learning programmes. Understanding of and commitment to Equality and Diversity in school setting and how it relates to the duties of the job Experience of working with children throughout primary age. Experience of working with children with additional needs. Experience of managing whole classes through the primary age range. Excellent behavioural management skills. Plan effective lessons. Ability to use ICT equipment and packages. Ability to work on own initiative and contribute to the effective working of a team. Be able to prioritise and produce accurate work, working to tight deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively at all levels. Ability to evaluate learning needs and actively seek learning opportunities Experience of classroom based research Experience of raising achievement through school specialism/professional networks Ambition to progress Teaching & Learning Motivation & personality Experience of monitoring classroom performance A critical understanding of the role of ICT in learning Commitment to ongoing personal training and development.
