2 Conference Program Highlights Marie Bakitas, DNSc, APRN, NP-C, AOCN, ACHPN, FAAN Marie L. O Koren Endowed Chair and Professor University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing Marie Bakitas, DNSc, FAAN is the Marie L. O Koren Endowed Chair and Professor, School of Nursing and Associate Director, Center for Palliative and Supportive Care, School of Medicine at the, University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Bakitas received her MS from Boston University and DNSc and post doctoral fellowship from Yale University. She has advanced certification in adult health, hospice and palliative care, and oncology nursing. Dr. Bakitas research focus is on innovative symptom management and early palliative care, with a special focus on telehealth interventions for rural and underserved populations with serious, life-limiting illness and their families. Dr. Bakitas has participated in 41 funded research grants and served as the principal investigator on 20. Currently, she has R01 funding from the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) for an in-progress palliative care randomized clinical intervention trial for patients with heart failure and their family caregivers to determine the effectiveness of a phone-based palliative care intervention compared to usual care. Dr. Bakitas is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and has received awards from the Oncology Nursing Society, the Council on the Advancement of Nursing Science, and Hospice and Palliative Nursing Association, among many others. Dr. Bakitas has served on more than ten national committees and advisory boards including two Institute of Medicine s (IOM) and National Cancer Policy Forums, the Mary Margaret Walther Program in Palliative Care Research and Education and is on NIH study section and American Cancer Society Doctoral Scholarship review panels. She has disseminated her work through the publication of 55 original papers, 34 book chapters, 3 books, and 18 clinical guidelines and monographs. One of her published textbooks received the American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year Award. She has served as editor or associate editor of the journals of Oncology Nursing Forum, Quality of Life: A Nursing Challenge and the Journal of Hospice and Palliative Nursing. She currently serves as a journal referee for Cancer, Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine, Journal of Clinical Oncology, JAMA, Journal of Palliative Medicine, and the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management.

4 CALL FOR POSTERS ACCREDIATION DESIGNATION Attendees are invited to submit poster abstracts highlighting their research, literature reviews, quality improvement projects, or programs. Space will be available to display posters throughout the session. Up to 10 authors will be invited to briefly present their poster during the morning concurrent session. Poster submission guidelines can be found at Indiana University School of Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Indiana University School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 7 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. IU Health Indianapolis (OH-412, 6/1/2016) is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Ohio Nurses Association (OBN ), an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. Nurses will be granted 7.08 contact hours after attendance of the entire event and submission of an evaluation. Indiana University Health, Indianapolis, has been approved by the Indiana Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist and Mental Health Counselor Board to provide Category I Continuing Education program for: LSW, LCSW, and MTC. This program provides a maximum of 7.08 contact hours. We are exploring Category I Continuing Education program for Health Facility Administrations.
