1 Join us for a one-of-a-kind credentialing event, moving the needle in certification research through collaboration, analysis, and decision making. MARCH 3-5, 2016 :: LAS VEGAS
2 A NATIONAL CONVENING: The Value of Certification Building the Business Case for Certification will provide a collaborative multidisciplinary forum to develop actionable work plans for certification research. WHY SHOULD YOU BE THERE? The convening is an important event for the specialty certification field. Participants from the fields of nursing, medicine, nutrition and dietetics, occupational therapy, and pharmacy will partner to uncover new areas for research to support a business case for the value of certified practice, providing concrete research ideas and strategies for future collaboration. The agenda will facilitate the following: Identifying areas for research that support the value of certified practice. Exploring the value of certification among members of multidisciplinary healthcare teams. Measuring the value of certified practice as a strategic imperative for credentialing organizations. Planning for action. Supporting the benefits of certification is a common thread within the credentialing community. This is an opportunity to work together to support and achieve a common goal. Devising a strategic, impactful research agenda will strengthen our efforts to communicate the increasing value of certification. KEYNOTE SPEAKER Jack Needleman, PhD, FAAN, is a Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management, and UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. Dr. Needleman s research focuses on the impact of changing markets and public policy on quality and access to care, and health care provider and insure responses to market and regulatory incentives. For the past decade, Dr. Needleman s research has focused on studies of quality and staffing in hospitals and on the evaluation and design of performance improvement activities. Three of Dr. Needleman s first authored publications on quality of care and nurse staffing are designated patient safety classics by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Dr. Needleman s research on the impact of nurse staffing and nurses working conditions on patient outcomes in hospitals and the business case for increasing nurse staffing received the first Academy Health Services Research Impact Award. In 2007, he was inducted as an honorary Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing. Dr. Needleman was elected to the Institute of Medicine in 2013 and served on the IOM s Standing Committee on Nurse Credentialing Research and the IOM Committee for the Evaluation of the Impact of the Institute of Medicine Report The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health. 1
3 WHO SHOULD ATTEND? This convening is targeted to decision-makers and employers working in certification and academic areas who are interested in advancing certification for healthcare practitioners. Our focus will be on advancing research to promote professional development, improve quality and safety in the workplace, and validate knowledge to improve patient care.
