Use your book, notes, and Spanish-English dictionary to write your paper. 2. Try to stick with what you have learned in the lessons and what you already know how to say (use the dictionary as a last resort for a single word look-up only). 3. Your paper must be typed using Microsoft Word, be in APA style, and ed from your student account to your teacher as an attachment. 4. Will be graded using the Presentational Writing rubric. Presentational Speakings (spoken entirely in Spanish) 1. Use your book, notes, and Spanish-English dictionary to write your script. 2. Try to stick with what you have learned in the lessons and what you already know how to say (use the dictionary as a last resort for a single word look-up only). 3. Will be graded using the Presentational Speaking rubric. 4. Be creative and have fun! 5. When presenting you may have one index card with only a few guideline words to keep you on track. If you look at it so often as to be reading from it, you will receive a maximum of only 25/100 points for having the courage to get up in front of the class. 6. Listeners must be good audience members and exhibit self-control (some of the skits are meant to be funny, but you are not to disrupt the skit).
3 Quarter 1 Presentational Writing Options (choose one): PW1.1 Personal Reflection Project ( Quién soy yo?) 1. Interview & Reflect: Ask family and friends to give an honest description of you and your personality. 2. Presentational Writing: Write a 60-word minimum report about yourself. a. Include basic information about where you are from, a physical description of yourself, what you like/dislike, etc. b. Also include some descriptive words that your family and friends used to describe you; make sure to give credit to the person who described you. PW1.2 Famous Hispanic Person Research Project 1. Research: a famous Hispanic person, living or dead. The person you choose may have been born here in the U.S., but their parents or grandparents must be of Hispanic descent. 2. Presentational Writing: Write a 60-word minimum report about this person. a. Include information about who they are, why they are famous, the Hispanic country they are descended from, where they live now, and some of their likes/dislikes. b. Also include a basic physical description of the person Presentational Speaking Options (choose one): PS1.1 Our Classes Skit (groups of 4) 1. Think: about all of your classes. 2. Presentational Speaking: As a group, you will plan, practice, and perform a skit where you discuss your classes: your favorites, your least favorites, and the ones in between. Total time is 2-3 minutes and each person must speak equally. Be creative about the details, but you must include the following: a. the hour you have the class b. the name of the teacher c. what two classroom materials are needed specifically for the class d. whether or not the class is required (curso obligatorio) or an elective (curso electivo) e. two adjectives to describe the class and/or the teacher f. two adjective in the negative to describe the class and/or the teacher
4 PS1.2 La Escuela Skit (groups of 4) 1. Think: about all of your classes. 2. Presentational Speaking: As a group, you will plan, practice, and perform a skit between two current students at LWHS and two new students. Total time is 2-3 minutes and each person must speak equally. Be creative about the details, but you must include the following: a. The students greet one another and at least one of the students is introduced. b. The current students describe the teachers and students at the school. c. The new students ask questions about a class or classes. d. The current students explain where at least one place at school is located. (For example: The cafeteria is next to the office. The bathrooms are near the library, etc.) e. The new students ask what time school starts and ends. f. Someone either questions about or states what school supplies are needed at this school in general and another student questions or mentions what school supplies are needed for a specific class. Quarter 2 Presentational Writing Options (choose one): PW2.1 Family Blog 1. Scenario: Your class is blogging with students from the Andalusia region in Spain who are learning about American culture. They have asked for you to describe your family so that they can better understand the similarities and differences between American and Spanish families. 2. Presentational Writing: Create a 75-word minimum blog with descriptions of your family members. This will also allow you to write about the activities each family member likes to do. You may want to share things like: a. Names of your family members and their relationship to you b. their age c. personality and/or physical descriptions d. what members of your family like to do and don t like to do e. any other information (and photos) about your family that will make your site really stand out.
5 PW2.2 Student Orientation Committee 1. Scenario: You are on the Student Orientation Committee and are in charge of creating a pamphlet for new students about the extracurricular activities offered at LWHS. 2. Presentational Writing: Create a pamphlet (75-word minimum) about the various sports, clubs, and activities offered. Remember that you are writing with the purpose of attracting attendees to events and activities. a. description of the activity offered b. when it meets c. name the coach, sponsor, or person in charge d. make your pamphlet stand out and be visually inviting Presentational Speaking Options (choose one): PS2.1 Nuevos Amigos Skit (groups of 3) 1. Scenario: three of you have just met at school and want to know about each other s families. 2. Presentational Speaking: As a group, you will plan, practice, and perform a skit where you discuss your family members. Total time is 2-3 minutes and each person must speak equally. Be creative about the details, but you must include the following: a. each of you must ask at least one question about someone else s family 1) their ages 2) their looks 3) what they like to do/don t like to do 4) their personalities b. each of you must answer questions and offer up other information about your family. PS 2.2 Los Pasatiempos Skit (groups of 3) 1. Scenario: you three are involved in the same activity (either on the same team or not). 2. Presentational Speaking: As a group, you will plan, practice, and perform a skit where you are discussing your shared activity. Total time is 2-3 minutes and each person must speak equally. Be creative about the details, but you must include the following: a. state the activity, club, or sport so that the audience can follow along b. name the coach, sponsor, or person in charge c. talk about when you meet d. describe others involved in the same activity e. offer either a problem or a discussion about the pastime activity
6 Quarter 3 Presentational Writing Options (choose one): PW3.1 El Tiempo y Las Estaciones 1. Research: the various seasons in a Spanish-speaking country and the activities a person living there would enjoy doing in each season of the year. 2. Presentational Writing: Create a 100-word minimum report including: a. all four seasons and the months that occur in each season b. relative action verbs and weather expressions associated with that season [do not duplicate verbs and expressions, but rather use a variety in all of the seasons (exception is ir and jugar which can be used in each season)] c. labeled pictures of common things you might see in that season in that country (winter = snowman, spring = flowers, etc.) d. a description of the activities that a person living in that country might do during each season e. your readers should get a good feel for the seasons, weather, and activities enjoyed in that country PW3.2 El Periódico Escolar 1. Interview: another person about their shopping habits and clothing preferences. 2. Presentational Writing: a 100-word minimum report for the school newspaper about this person s shopping habits and clothing preferences. a. Use p. 218 of your textbook as a guide for questions to ask. b. Make sure to name the person and give any other appropriate information. c. Including a photo would be a great addition to your newspaper article. Presentational Speaking Options (choose one): PS3.1 Viajar Skit (in pairs) 1. Research: Spanish-speaking countries 2. Presentational Speaking: In pairs, you will plan, practice, and perform a skit where you discuss your travel plans. Total time is 2-3 minutes and each person must speak equally. Be creative about the details, but you must include the following: a. the name of the country you two are traveling to b. whether or not you prefer large or small cities c. the advantages of the places you prefer d. the disadvantages of the places you do NOT prefer e. how you feel about the trip and the places you will visit f. what you are doing right now to prepare for the trip
7 PS3.2 Las Noticias Skit (in pairs) 1. Research: news-worthy stories around LWHS and the current weather around the world 2. Presentational Speaking: In pairs, you will plan, practice, and perform a news broadcast skit. Total time is 2-3 minutes and each person must speak equally. Be creative about the details, but you must include the following: a. lead-in news stories from current LWHS and our surrounding community news b. current weather forecast from around the world (using web resources) and point to those countries (or cities) on a map like a real weather forecaster on the news c. technology-based visual aides d. appropriate props and/or costumes 3. Más Vocabulario: a. es = it is (es la primavera, es de dos de marzo, etc.). Remember you cannot use this with the weather expressions, that is with hace b. prónostico del tiempo = weather broadcast c. el canal = channel d. en el país de = in the country of Fashion Police PS3.3 La Policia de Moda Skit (in pairs) 1. Research: fashion disasters 2. Presentational Speaking: In pairs you will plan, practice, and perform a fashion skit that will display your knowledge of clothing vocabulary and the sentence structures that support it. Total time is 2-3 minutes and each person must speak equally. Be creative about the details, but you must include the following: a. technology-based visual aides of various fashion disasters that you will describe to the audience as if the people were actually going down the cat-walk right in our class b. an initial conversation between our two officers as they spot our victim c. the officers advice to fix the fashion disaster 3. Ideas a. initial conversation between officers might have them consider: 1) the clothing the victim is wearing (Él/Ella lleva ) 2) the colors the victim is wearing 3) how the clothing fits the victim (le queda mal/grande;pequeño) 4) what size the victim is wearing or what size the victim needs (necesita una talla ) 5) how much the clothing probably costs (es caro/barato ) 6) what they think about how the clothing looks (me parece feo/pasado de moda ) b. direct comments to the fashion victim: 1) tell how his/her clothes fit (te queda ) 2) what you think about his/her clothes (me parece ) 3) ask the victim why he/she is wearing such clothing ( por qué?) c. advice: 1) what should the victim change about his/her clothing? (Tú debes llevar ) 2) How can he/she improve his/her taste in style?
8 Quarter 4 Presentational Writing Options (choose one): PW 4.1 Libro para Niños 1. Scenario: you will write a book appropriate for children 6-10 years old. 2. Presentational Writing: Write a 125-word minimum children s book. Some things to include are: a. illustrations b. lots of vocabulary from throughout the lessons PW4.2 Mi Vacación Inolvidable 1. Reflect: upon you most memorable vacation 2. Presentational Writing: Write a 125-word minimum report about that vacation. Some things to include are: a. when you went on the vacation, with whom, the duration of the vacation b. what you did on the vacation, what you bought and for whom c. what was the weather like and which season of the year was it d. what made the vacation so memorable Presentational Speaking Options (choose one): PS4.1 Mi Rutina (individually) 1. Think: about your daily routine and the daily routine of either a friend, family member, or celebrity 2. Presentational Speaking: you will plan, practice, and present to the class about your daily routine. You will also compare/contrast your routine to someone else s routine. Total time is 2-3 minutes. Be creative about the details, but you must include the following: a. what time you wake up and three other things you do to get ready in the morning b. what you eat for breakfast and what time you arrive at school PS4.2 Una Crítica Culinaria (individually) 1.
