For immediate access please see How to Purchase your E-BOOK below. COURSE DESCRIPTION: Systematic review of the Spanish language, vocabualry and grammar. This course is a gradual and proportional development of three basic skills: understanding, reading, and writing. Emphasis will be placed on reading, writing and detailed explanation of the principles of grammar. Training in reading comprehension to facilitate the student s writing skills. This course is 100% online. Access to the Internet is necessary. This course is an introduction to the Spanish language. It is designed for students with very little or no knowledge of Spanish. By the end of the semester, the students will be able to ask and answer simple questions. This Elementary I Course will give the student the ability to understand and convey in writing simple information and/or feelings in a particular situation. The main focus of this course will be Grammar Structure and Vocabulary. Emphasis will not be given to speaking at this beginner s level, but Listening exercises will be a very important part of the semester. This is an asynchronous course. No recording exercises will be required. STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES/OBJECTIVES: (SLOs) GENERAL OBJECTIVES: 1. Acquire the necessary listening and written skills to interact, collect, identify and discuss information in Spanish on an elementary level. 2. Build a strong basic vocabulary to be able to recognize and create dialogues used within the discipline. 3. Acquire the reading comprehension skills sufficient to independently extract information, understand and/write basic information in the target language. 4. Ability to recognize fundamental daily-life situations in Spanish. GRAMMATICAL OBJECTIVES: 1. Students will learn the basic stem changing and other irregularities of all verbs and their conjugation, including reflexive verbs, in the following tenses: present tense, informal future, and the present progressive. 2. Students will learn the different semantic difficulties presented by true and false cognates, and other particular expressions, like expressing the weather or the time. 3. Student will acquire basic knowledge of gender and number of nouns and adjectives, as well as the use and placement of adverbs.

2 4. Student will learn the indirect and direct object pronouns, their placement and usage. 5. Student will become accustomed to reading, writing and listening to basic level sentences using the knowledge described above. Expected student preparation: Very little or no previous knowledge of Spanish language required. Students will complete all assigned activities in ENLINEA Ebook marked with an small diamond shape (See Assignments on top right hand corner of main page in E-Book). Program will automatically grade the activities and provide feedback. Students will participate in the Grammar and Vocabulary discussion as often as possible. See Rubric on Moodle for more details.
