1 ROTARY CLUB ST. PETERSBURG Founded October 24, 1990 District 2220 Dear Fellow-Rotarians! It is our great pleasure to invite you to a meeting of friends dedicated to the celebration of 20th Anniversary of Rotary club St.Petersburg! Rotary club St.Petersburg was one of first three clubs founded in the Soviet Union in Our sponsors were Rotary clubs Coronado (San Diego, USA), Lappeenranta (Finland) and Skoyen (Oslo, Norway). Over hundred Rotarians from 9 countries came to greet us in 1990 and they still remain our friends for many years. During the past twenty years almost 50 Rotary clubs with around one thousand members were established in the European part of Russia and over thirty clubs in Siberia and Far East. Our club completed over 40 community projects, sponsored 6 scholars and over 20 exchange students. Within this period of time which is comparatively short for the history of Rotary we gained valuable experience of service and fellowship from Rotarians all round the world. St.Petersburg with its four Rotary clubs became one of the major centers of Rotary movement in Russia. Both RI Presidential Conferences which took place during these years within the borders of the former Soviet Union were held in St.Petersburg in 1997 and Our club hosted many other international and district events. We enjoyed exciting 20 years in Rotary! To remember the past years and to discuss new joint actions we welcome Rotarians from Russia as well as from other countries to join us for a conference and gala dinner which will be held on October 23, 2010 at the historical residence located at Moyka emb.23, in 200 meters from the Palace Square and Hermitage. TOURS AFTER THE CONFERENCE Possible Options: - visit to the Catherine s Palace in Tsarskoe Selo (20 miles from St.Petersburg) and the park. For two centuries Tsarskoye Selo stayed the main summer residence of Russian Emperors. Its construction was of state significance and the palace and park ensemble was regularly enriched with new edifices created by the best architects of that time. Since May, 2003 you can visit the priceless work of art - famous Amber Room; - tour of the city (3 hours). You will get acquainted with the architecture, history, and modern day life of the former capital of the Russian Empire, and with the history of the Romanov s Dynasty. A tour includes visits to the Palace Square with the Winter Palace, the Arts Square with the Russian Museum, the Smolny Monastery, the famous Nevsky Prospect, and the Field of Mars. You will see the classic ensemble of the Senate Square, the Basil Island, and many other landmarks, magnificent palaces, bridges, and picturesque embankments. A professional guide and a bus are provided to each excursion.
