Job advert DEVELOPMENT EXECUTIVES TALENT CENTRES (BRIGHTON OR SHEFFIELD) Creative England and the BFI are looking for two ambitious development executives to play a key role in the delivery of funding and development activities to emerging feature filmmaking talent from across England. Working across feature film script development, short films and pilots, you will scout and track upcoming talent, undertake meetings, assess applications and provide bespoke support and editorial expertise alongside the Senior Film Executives. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a small team dedicated to discovering the most creative and distinctive new voices in UK film. SALARY: 25,000 to 35,000 dependent on experience CONTRACT: Full-time. Three-year engagement with the option to extend for a further one year. LOCATION: Based in Brighton or Sheffield with travel to other parts of England and the UK. The package The salary for this role is 25,000 to 35,000 per annum dependent on experience and the package includes 25 days annual leave and a 5% contributory pension scheme, upon completion of a sixmonth probationary period. About Creative England and the BFI Founded in October 2011, Creative England is a national screen agency that invests in and supports ideas, talent and businesses across film, TV, games and digital media. Our current film portfolio includes over 80 features in funded development, the ifeatures low budget development, production and training initiative, and the Advantage Media Production Fund (AMPF) that recently supported Penny Woolcock s One Mile Away (Best British Feature, Edinburgh International Film Festival 2012), Debbie Isitt s Nativity 2, as well as high-end TV dramas such as Dancing on The Edge and Line of Duty. 5 5. Job description Location: Based in Brighton or Sheffield. Travel to other parts of England and the UK will be required. Reports to: Senior Film Executive Talent Centres A central idea of the BFI s commitment to emerging talent development is the creation of a UK Talent Network as described in their Film Forever plan. The UK Talent Network will provide a unique and innovative new model to discover, nurture and progress the next generation of feature filmmaking talent, with an emphasis on creative excellence, diverse voices and equality of opportunity. Creative England is partnering with the BFI to deliver a key element of this plan the creation of two Talent Centres, one in Brighton and one in Sheffield. These centres are planned to be operational in September Each Centre will serve as entry point for emerging talent from across England (including London) providing a clear ladder of progression from shorts to first feature, with bespoke support for both project and skills development. We are now looking to recruit two Development Executives to play a key role in the delivery of funding and development activities for each Centre. Working closely with a Senior Film Executive, you will scout and track emerging talent, undertake meetings, assess and report on applications, and provide support and editorial expertise to talent and projects in receipt of funding. You will work on feature film script development, short films, pilots and the provision of other bespoke development support. You will also actively contribute to other talent development initiatives across the UK Talent Network, building a reputation for supporting the most creative and distinctive voices in film.

Job description continued Main responsibilities Proactively seek and track talent (including writers, director and producers) and projects suitable for potential funding and/or other support through the Talent Centres, acting as first point of contact as appropriate. Take an active role in engaging with the BFI s proposed talent website that forms the connectivity for the UK Talent Network. Read, write reports, and assess projects, showreels and other materials submitted by filmmakers confidently, concisely and quickly. Employ strong story editing skills on all development projects and liaise closely with the Senior Film Executive to provide notes on new drafts. Provide appropriate editorial and practical support alongside the Senior Film Executive on the development and production of short films. Develop and maintain suitable tracking systems for talent and projects, ensuring that knowledge can be easily shared within Creative England, the BFI, and with key external partners such as Film London, the national screen agencies and Creative Skillset. Take meetings with talent and attend creative meetings alongside the Senior Film Executive, providing constructive feedback and advice. Write follow up notes from all meetings as required. Assist in the delivery of relevant skills and training activity to identified talent in alignment with project support, both one-to-one and through a range of labs, master-classes and showcases. Contribute to other talent development initiatives that more broadly support innovation, networking and professional development across the UK Talent Network. Sustain a high level of visibility and networking by attending relevant events, festivals, screenings; thereby keeping on top of the talent pulse and strengthening awareness of the Talent Centres offer.

Job description continued Liaise with Creative England and the BFI s communications team to ensure that information around the Talent Centres activity is regularly disseminated via the website, bulletins, Twitter, Facebook, etc. Be actively engaged in the cultural world (specifically film, theatre, comedy and writing). To keep abreast of changes in best practice and technological developments to ensure that the thinking and practice of the Talent Centres is leading edge. To actively participate in meetings, planning, development and team building events as directed. To undertake policy research, design and development work as required. To be an ambassador for the Talent Centres and Creative England through maintaining a professional approach at all times To carry out all responsibilities in a way that promotes equal opportunities, diversity and inclusion. To undertake any other duties that may be reasonably required. 8 6. Person Specification Essential requirements Significant experience in a similar role. Demonstrable experience of script assessment, understanding of commercial potential of film projects and an ability to discern quality and progress drafts. A proven track record of establishing contacts within the film industry and strong talent and agent relationships. Demonstrable experience of story editing, with a comprehensive knowledge of dramatic theories and a commitment to new writing. The ability to act on own initiative and to use analytical skills to research around a subject. A good working knowledge of the film industry and a commitment to other art forms (such as theatre, literature, comedy and the visual arts). Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and to manage and meet deadlines. A proactive and customer-focused approach. Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to deal effectively with people at all level. Practical IT skills. A demonstrable commitment to the principles of diversity and inclusion and its practical application and integration in the work environment. A commitment to continuous professional development.
