This guide is a supplement t these Pr-face Device/PLC Cnnectins Manuals: Schneider MODBUS SIO Master Driver Schneider MODBUS SLAVE Driver Mdbus-IDA General MODBUS SIO Master Driver The infrmatin and diagrams in this dcument apply t all the MODBUS serial cmmunicatins device/plc drivers. The diagrams in this dcument are fr a 1:1 cnnectin between a single Pr-face display and a single External Device. Additinal cable diagrams and diagrams fr multiple device serial netwrks can be fund in the Pr-face Device/PLC Cnnectins Manuals. Mre infrmatin abut Mdbus cabling and cmmunicatins can als be fund n the Internet at: Cabling Mdbus serial cabling can be either a RS232 r a RS422/485 cnnectin. An RS422/RS485 cnnectin can be 2-wire r 4 wire. Cable diagrams in this dcument are fr Pr-face displays with DB9 serial prts. Fr LT4000M displays and legacy Pr-face 25 pin serial prt cnnectin diagrams please refer t the Device/PLC Cnnectins Manuals. Cnnectin ntes: The FG pin f the External Device bdy must be D-class grunded. Please refer t the manual f the External Device fr mre details. SG and FG are cnnected inside the display. When cnnecting SG t the External Device, design the system t nt frm shrt-circuit lp. Cnnect an islatin unit, when cmmunicatin is nt stabilized under the influence f nise etc. Cable Diagrams RS232 cabling is pint t pint. The cable pin-ut is specific t the requirements f the External Device. The Pr-face hardware requires a minimum f 3 cnductrs and a jumper: Send Data (SD), Receive Data (RD), a Cmmn (SG), and a jumper between the RS and CS. The cable pin-ut and jumpers required by the cnnected External Device shuld be btained frm the device dcumentatin. Page 1 f 5

Regardless f the PLC/Device driver selected in yur prject refer t the Mdbus Slave Device cnnectin diagrams in the GP-Pr EX Mdbus-IDA General MODBUS SIO Master Driver manual. It is available at: Pr-face Adapters. Migrating frm legacy Pr-face r Panel Statin hardware and using the existing 25 pin cable: i. T cnnect t an AGP3000 series COM2 DB9F prt simply use a Prface adapter CA3-CBLCBT between the display and the existing cable. ii. Fr cnnectins t RS422/485 Cm DB9M (male) prts n AGP3000, GP4000, and SP5000 simply use a Pr-face adapter PFXZCBCBCVR41between the display and the existing cable. If the cnnectin diagram suggests this adapter cmbinatin: COM prt cnversin adapter by Pr-face CA3-ADPCOM-01 Cnnectr terminal blck cnversin adapter by Pr-face CA3-ADPTRM-01 The newer mre cmpact Pr-face adapter PFXZCBADTM1 can be substituted fr these items. Signal Grund. It is imprtant t include a signal grund (SG) r a signal reference cmmn cnnectin between the devices as shwn in the cnnectin diagrams. When a cmmn r signal grund cnnectin is nt prvided n the 3 rd party device a signal cmmn reference can ften be achieved by ne f these methds: Page 4 f 5

5 If the 3 rd party device has a signal grund, cnnect pin-5 f the Pr-face device t signal grund. Sme vendrs specify cnnecting the shield n bth ends fr a cmmn reference. In this case fllw their instructins fr their end f the cable and cnnect the shield t pin 5 (SG) r the shell f the DB9 cnnectr n the Pr-face end. If the 3 rd party device has a cmmn that is referenced r strapped t safety grund cnnect pin-5 f the Pr-face device t that cmmn. (review the 3 rd party device cnnectins and dcumentatin t avid shrt circuits and nise inducing grund lps ) Cnnect pin-5 t the safety grund n the device. (review the 3 rd party device cnnectins and dcumentatin t avid shrt circuits and nise inducing grund lps ) Line plarizatin. Plarizatin imprves the nise immunity n an RS485 netwrk. It is NOT required in all cases. Plarizatin requirements vary depending n the netwrk layut and the specificatins f the cnnected devices. Mre than 2 plarizatin devices can cause cmmunicatin prblems n the netwrk. Fr Mdbus 2 wire RS485 netwrks nly ne plarizatin circuit shuld be used. Fr AGP mdels except AGP-3200 series and AGP3302B use the terminatin and plarizatin adapter Pr-face CA4-ADPONL-01 r a plarizatin feature n the cnnected device. Fr ther mdels. If anther cnnected device has a plarizatin switch r feature, use it. If there is nne yu can build yur wn. In mst installatins the HMI is the master and the cnnected devices are slaves. Mdbus serial prtcl allws a slave t have nly ne master. If the device ffers a chice between ASCII and RTU prtcl chse RTU. If the prject is GP-Pr/PB3 use the Schneider Mdbus RTU 1:n cmm. device/plc driver. If the HMI is the slave in GP-Pr/PB3 select the Mdicn Mdbus (SLAVE) driver.
