1 Course Syllabus Spanish I Syllabus Instructor: Jodi Resch Brownell Prep Hour: 4 th hour Room Number: 86 Phone: Date: brownjod@sdofcrandon.com DESCRIPTION: This is a full year course on the Spanish language and culture. Students will learn how to communicate in Spanish at a basic level. GOALS/ OUTCOMES 1. To communicate with Spanish speaking people. 2. To learn more about the Spanish speaking world and its cultures. REQUIREMENTS: Good attendance Being in class on time Completion of assignments and projects Passing grades on tests and quizzes In class participation Following classroom matrix Bringing all materials to class daily REQUIRED STUDENT MATERIALS: Large Binder/folder Notebook Pen/pencil
2 EVALUATION: (point values are approximate) 5 points per week zes 20 points per week s 100 points per 4 weeks GRADING SCALE:. (A) 92.5 and above (A-) 89.5 and above (B+) 86.5 and above (B) 82.5 and above (B-) 79.5 and above (C+) 76.5 and above (C) 72.5 and above (C-) 69.5 and above (D+) 66.5 and above (D) 62.5 and above (D-) 59.5 and above PARTICIPATION GRADE 10% of your grade is participation. Participation will be based on class attendance, speaking in class (number of euros you acquire), and your contribution to the class. This grade will be put in the last day of the quarter following an interview between teacher and student. Students are expected to follow the classroom and school behavioral matrices. CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR Page 2
3 Special grade requirements: For an A: Students must complete an A Project for each quarter The percentage in the grade book must also be an A For a D-: Students must miss no more than 2 classes per quarter Students must bring all their materials everyday they are allowed 2 days per quarter of forgiveness for missing items Students must be tardy no more than 2 times per quarter Students must actively participate in class (no head down on desk, using personal electronic devices without permission, doing work for other classes, etc.) Even if the percentage in the grade book is lower than 59.5%, if the student meets the above criteria they will pass the class Page 3
