3 Overview of the team and role The Freedom of Information team is part of the Freedom of Information and Privacy unit, in the Corporate Legal section of the Corporate Management Group. The team is responsible for managing Comcare s obligations under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (the FOI Act). Members of the team are required to use technical expertise and judgement to make informed decisions within relevant timeframes, when managing and responding to requests for information under the FOI Act. The team provides routine advice to Comcare about legislative compliance and is responsible for developing and supporting training and education campaigns to raise awareness within Comcare of the requirements of the FOI Act. The APS4 Freedom of Information Officer is required to build rapport with key stakeholders, maintain internal and external relationships, respond to enquiries and provide routine advice on the FOI Act, consistent with the APS Code of Conduct and APS Values. Qualifications/Experience Sound knowledge of and experience working with the FOI Act. Job specific capabilities 1. Demonstrated experience in applying the FOI Act to process requests and manage enquiries effectively and efficiently, in accordance with the legislation. 2. Experience in contributing to the development of advice on legislative obligations under the Freedom of Information Act. 3. Sound knowledge of records management processes, including TRIM, to search for documents and maintain records. 4. Experience in generating and preparing reports, in a variety of formats, for internal and external stakeholders. Primary responsibilities 5. Provide routine advice on and assist with the release of information in accordance with the FOI Act. 6. Research and analyse a range of complex issues across a broad range of areas. 7. Promote and manage relationships with internal and external clients, stakeholders and service providers. 8. Provide input to strategic plans and take part in operational business planning. 9. Lead and exemplify a healthy and safe working environment, modelling and promoting ethical behaviour and practices consistent with the APS Code of Conduct and APS Values. 10.Demonstrate collaboration, participation and contribution to the team and organisational objectives. 3
