1 COORDINATOR OF TRAINING & PLANNING JOB DESCRIPTION Department Immediate Supervisor Location Salary Range Administration Manager of Finance and Administration Wikwemikong To be determined General Description Reporting to the Manager of Finance and Administration, the Coordinator of Training & Planning provides progressive leadership and expertise to Kina Gbezhgomi Child and Family Services (KGCFS) in all aspects of training, including: program development and delivery, program support, research, strategic planning, and reporting. Job Purpose The Coordinator of Training and Planning is primarily responsible for the development and delivery of a wide range of training programs, including background research in various fields of knowledge. This person is also responsible for coordinating training efforts with the long- and short-term strategic planning of the agency. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: The Coordinator of Training and Planning will deliver the following duties and responsibilities in a manner that is consistent and cognizant of the KGCFS philosophy and local Anishinabek customs and traditions: Program Development and Delivery Develop an education, training and development model and determine the education, training and development needs that link directly to Agency goals and objectives Ensure training programs are delivered with excellence and conform to provincial standards and the Agency philosophy and mandate Deliver modules, as approved, in any or all of Ontario Association of Children s Aid Societies (OACAS) programs, such as: Professional series, Advanced Child Welfare or Management and Leadership courses Review and revise curriculum, in consultation with other managers and supervisors Page 1 of 5

2 Collaborate with senior management to develop guiding principles, strategies and plans for training and education Conduct comprehensive needs assessments for staff training and education Determine education, training and development priorities based on assessed needs, Agency impact and available resources Coordinate existing training programs and provide consultation to Agency directors for development of job-specific training Design, conduct and/or broker the delivery of training programs from a variety of resources Research, evaluate and select outside consultants and trainers to meet training needs as appropriate Prepare budgets and develop the administrative framework required to support education, training and development programs and initiatives Formulate policies, procedures and schedules to support education and training operations and initiatives Develop annual Agency training plan and communicate plan through a comprehensive Training Calendar Develop methods, procedures and systems to support learning initiatives and programs Evaluate and measure the effectiveness of training and development programs Program Support Serve as a resource to the senior management team and participates in regular senior management team meetings by providing training expertise and perspective on wide variety of issues Work with various supervisors and their departments to understand any issues and collaboratively develops training solutions Assists in the design, development and delivery of workshops in the community Attend and participate as a team member in staff meetings, seminars and training sessions Attend departmental team meetings as a training resource, as required Perform other duties, as required, assigned by Manager of Finance and Administration Research Aboriginal Child Welfare Keep up to date on latest research in field of Aboriginal child welfare Act as a resource to senior management and board of directors in terms of current directions in the field Page 2 of 5

3 Build and maintain research library of child welfare and cultural materials, made available to service provision teams Attend a wide variety of conferences and symposiums to bring knowledge back and relay to staff through training sessions Training and Adult Education Maintain high level of knowledge and expertise in area of training and adult education, understanding the implications that training delivery have on service provision Act as a resource to supervisors of service departments and help to inform their decision-making from an adult education perspective Strategic Planning Collaboratively review policies to identify change that would improve quality of service and would ensure the provision of culturally appropriate services In collaboration with the senior management team, participate in an annual strategic planning session Assemble information from the strategic planning session into a comprehensive report and work with senior management team to implement decisions made into action Reporting Complete quarterly and annual reports to the Manager of Finance and Administration and/or as required Complete and present various training reports to the Board as required Complete annual Training Department Report to the Manager of Finance and Administration Track and maintain statistical data from annual training activities by staff, foster parents and community members Qualifications Education University degree or college diploma (two year minimum)in a field related to Human Resources, Education or Social Work. However, other combinations of skills, education and experience that are relevant may be considered. Page 3 of 5

4 Professional designation Certified facilitator of OACAS Professional series (courses 1 8) designation is an asset. If required, the employee will agree to the part-time enrolment towards Professional series facilitator designation Work Experience A minimum of two years experience in the design, delivery and evaluation of education, training and/or development programs Knowledge, skills and abilities Strong ability to motivate and empower participants through presentation sessions Superior presentation and public speaking skills Broad knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act, especially Part X Understanding and awareness of Aboriginal Child Welfare sector is preferred Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, with strong time and project management skills Knowledge of the Kina Gbezhgomi Personnel Policies and Procedures Strong communication skills, including written, verbal, and presentation Proficient interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution, collaboration, facilitation, negotiation, and team building Understanding and awareness of a First Nations employment environment Ability to work well with other managers from a wide range of department areas Ability to work flexible hours as required Knowledge of KGCFS member First Nation communities as well as the local customs and traditions Must possess a valid driver s license, access to a vehicle, and be willing to travel Must provide a clear Criminal Records Check and Driver s Abstract; and Ability to speak Anishinabemowin is preferred and is a definite asset. Proficiency in the use of computer programs for: Word processing MS Word, Power Point, Publisher Databases - MS Outlook Internet Explorer Page 4 of 5

5 Working Conditions Coordinator of Training and Planningworks in an office environment Coordinator of Training and Planning usually works a standard work week; however, the ability to work flexible hours may be required. The position may require working some overtime hours to attend meetings of the Board and for preparation of training sessions. Must provide a current, clear criminal reference check (CPIC).
