Cotrol Pael Compatibility INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Product Summary The Quik Bridge Loop Receiver (receiver) allows you to use up to 16 Lear Mode wireless sesors (two per zoe) with ay stadard hardwire cotrol pael. I additio, you ca use up to 45 Keychai Touchpads ad paic butto trasmitters, for a total of 61 wireless trasmitters. The receiver moitors the alarm, battery, tamper, ad supervisory status of trasmitters leared ito the receiver s eight zoes. The receiver features the followig: Spatial-diversity receiver, which ehaces receptio 8 programmable zoe outputs (N/C or N/O) Selectable zoe supervisio (programmable) RF (radio sigal) jam detectio o zoe 7 (optioal). Receiver cover/ atea tamper o zoe 8 (optioal). 8 red zoe LEDs, which idicate zoe opeigs ad closigs 2 yellow trouble LEDs, which idicate sesor low battery ad supervisory coditios Support for a piezo (used for RF testig oly) which, whe used souds the umber of trasmissios received from leared trasmitters. Compatibility with X-10 Modules O-board EEPROM that stores sesor IDs ad programmig iformatio i o-volatile memory, eve if power is removed. The receiver is compatible with cotrol paels desiged with hardwire loops where the loop egative is groud (commo-loop groud). CAUTION: The loop receiver is ot directly compatible with powered loops (2-wire smoke detector loops ad glass break detector loops). Coectig the receiver directly to a powered loop ca cause permamet damage to the receiver. You must istall a relay whe coectig to powered loops (see Figure 13). The followig cotrol paels (oe or more versios) support a commo-loop groud for oe or more of its loops. If your cotrol pael is ot listed below, you ca test it for compatibility (see Compatibility Testig sectio below). If this is true ad the loop is o-powered, the loop should be compatible with the receiver. Although most cotrol paels are compatible with the receiver s ope collector outputs, each loop should be tested for compatibility before coectig receiver outputs to the cotrol pael loop iputs. 2 CAUTION: If the receiver is ot directly compatible with a cotrol pael loop, a relay must be used to avoid permaet damage to the receiver. To check if the egative side of the loop is commo to cotrol pael groud, perform the followig test: 1) Tur off or remove cotrol pael power ad discoect the back-up battery. 2) Use a ohm meter ad measure the resistace betwee the egative side of the loop ad pael groud. If the resistace is zero or close to zero, this loop should be compatible with the loop receiver. If the resistace is ot zero, a relay is required for this loop. Perform this compatibility test for all loops that are to be coected to the receiver. Overview of Receiver Operatio DIP Switch A sigle DIP switch o the receiver board (see Figure 1) cotrols the mode of operatio. Whe the DIP switch is up, the receiver is i program mode. Whe the DIP switch is dow, the receiver is i ru mode. Tamper Switch Fuctio I Ru Mode If o trasmitters are leared ito zoe 8, the receiver s tamper switch is active. Trippig the tamper switch (by removig the cover) or removig the atea causes a tamper alarm o zoe 8. If oe or more trasmitters are leared ito zoe 8, the tamper feature is iactive ad does ot cause a alarm. I Program Mode While i program mode, pressig the tamper switch cycles through three programmig areas: Lear/Delete Trasmitters Cofigurig Zoe/Trouble Outputs N/O or N/C Eablig/Disablig Zoe Supervisio ADV ad SEL Switches These switches are used oly whe i program mode. The ADV (advace) switch lets you cycle to the zoe you wat to program. The SEL (select) switch lets you select the zoe or trouble output for programmig. Outputs The receiver uses ope-collector trasistors for the zoe ad trouble outputs (see Figure 2). The outputs ca be ope (high impedace) or closed (shorted to groud), which ca be cofigured to be ormally closed (N/C) or ormally ope (N/O). Each output ca be wired to the cotrol pael. 3 Zoe Outputs There are eight zoe outputs labeled 1 through 8. Whe a leared trasmitter is activated, the correspodig zoe output switches to the alarm state ad remais i alarm for at least 3 secods, util the trasmitter is restored to its o-alarm state. (If the cotrol pael coected to the receiver is armed, the pael activates a alarm i respose to the zoe output trasitio.) Zoe 7 Receiver Jam Detect: If o trasmitters are leared ito zoe 7, this output trips wheever the receiver detects a jam coditio. Receiver jammig occurs whe the receiver detects a costat sigal for 30 secods. The receiver jam detect feature is disabled automatically if trasmitters are leared ito zoe 7. Zoe 8 Receiver Cover/Atea Tamper: If o trasmitters are leared ito zoe 8, this output trips wheever the receiver cover or the atea is removed. Whe trasmitters are leared ito zoe 8, these tamper features are disabled. Trouble Outputs There are two trouble outputs labeled B (low battery summary) ad S (supervisory failure summary). B - Low Battery: Whe a leared trasmitter seds a low battery sigal, this output switches to, ad remais i the alarm state util the receiver receives a sigal from the same trasmitter with a good battery. S - Supervisory: If a leared supervised trasmitter fails to report for four hours, this output switches to the alarm state util the failed or ureportig trasmitters have reported to the receiver. Test Output T - Test/Piezo: This output mometarily supplies 5 VDC each time a trasmitter seds a alarm sigal to the receiver. Coect a piezo (optioal) to this output oly whe testig RF trasmitter respose. LED Idicators The receiver has 11 LEDs: 8 red zoe LEDs (bottom row), a gree Power LED, a yellow Low Battery LED, ad a yellow Supervisory LED (see Figure 3). Figure 3. The power LED turs o after power is applied to the receiver ad the self-tests are passed. The LED bliks oce each time a sigal is received from a trasmitter. If the receiver fails the self-tests, the power LED does ot tur o. Istead, the trouble LEDs flash alterately for a failed self-test. Receiver is ot properly wired or has a power failure. Receiver failed power-up test. Receiver received a RF sigal, whether leared or ot. I ru mode, the LEDs idicate 3 coditios: alarm, low battery, ad supervisory failure. To diagose alarm/tamper status coditios: Whe the trouble LEDs are both off, the zoe LEDs idicate alarm/tamper iformatio. The zoe LEDs tur o for zoes that are ope (i alarm/tamper). Zoe LEDs remai off for zoes that are closed or ot used. Page 3

4 To diagose trasmitter low battery coditios: The yellow low battery LED idicates whe oe or more trasmitters have reported a low battery coditio. After a low battery report, the low battery LED will flash or blik oce every three secods, i syc with at least oe zoe LED. Check the correspodig zoe s trasmitter(s) for low battery coditios. To diagose trasmitter supervisory coditios: The yellow supervisory LED idicates whe oe or more trasmitters have failed to report to the receiver for at least four hours. Whe a supervisory coditio exists, the supervisory LED will flash or blik oce every three secods, i syc with at least oe zoe LED. Check the correspodig zoe s trasmitter(s) for supervisory coditios. Figure 4 shows the alarm, low battery ad supervisory ru mode LED idicatios. ALARM Display if there is a alarm o a zoe 2 trasmitter. Avoid areas that may expose the receiver to moisture. Avoid areas with excessive metal or electrical wirig, icludig furace ad utility rooms. or-- If uavoidable, mout o metal with the atea extedig above the metallic surface (see Figure 5). Touch a bare metal surface or wear a groudig strap to discharge yourself. Page 4

5 1) Remove the receiver s cover by pressig dow o the top ceter of the cover (see Figure 6.). 5) Remove the base ad istall the achors provided, if studs are ot preset. 6) Mout the base o the wall with the screws provided. 7) Replace the circuit board o the base by slidig the top of the circuit board uder the top two latches, the press o the bottom of the circuit board util it saps uder the lower right latch. Coectig the Atea to the Receiver Figure 6. Removig the Receiver s Cover 2) Press dow o the lower right corer of the base util the lower right latch releases the circuit board (see Figure 7). 3) Remove the circuit board by pullig it away from the top two latches ad set it aside. 4) Hold the base agaist the moutig surface ad mark the three moutig holes (see Figure 7). Leave at least 10" above the base for the atea. To coect the atea to the receiver: 1) Loose the iside termials of the left ad right atea termial blocks. 2) Isert a atea ed ito each iside termial. 3) Tighte the termial screws. Powerig To coect power to the receiver: 1) Tur off or remove power from the pael ad discoect the battery. 2) Wire receiver termials (GND) ad (+12V) to a o-switched 12V supply output o the cotrol pael. Base Moutig Hole Locatios Before programmig, it s a good idea to write dow how you pla to use the trasmitters with each zoe. The followig guidelies describe the receiver zoe capabilities. Use these guidelies to help you complete Table 2 for recordig the wireless devices used Page 5

6 for each zoe. Zoe Plaig Guidelies Keychai Touchpads The receiver ca lear up to 45 Keychai Touchpads. The followig describes the Keychai Touchpad butto fuctios. Suggested applicatios iclude paic butto, mometary or maitaied (toggle o/off) cotrol pael activatio for armig/disarmig, or mometary activatio for a garage door opeer. Maitaied output applicatios also iclude X-10 light cotrol (see X-10 Applicatios ). Note: Note: Note: All Keychai Touchpads leared ito the receiver cotrol the same zoe outputs. For example, if Keychai Touchpad #1 is leared ito zoe 1 ad Keychai Touchpad #2 is leared ito zoe 2, both Keychai Touchpads cotrol both zoes. Zoe 1: Lock & Ulock Buttos Together This simultaeous keypress ca be leared oly ito zoe 1 ad still allows you to lear 2 additioal sesors ito zoe 1. Whe leared, this keypress causes a mometary alarm o zoe 1. Both paic butto trasmitters ad this keypress ca be leared ito zoe 1 together; however, the total umber of paic buttos ad Keychai Touchpads leared ito zoe 1 caot exceed 45. For zoes 2 through 6, keychai touchpads ad other sesors caot be leared ito the same zoe. Zoe 2: Lock or Ulock Butto Whe leared ito zoe 2, both of these keypresses work together to provide a maitaied (toggle) output respose (oly oe of these buttos eeds to be leared for both to work). Typically, this output would be used for a maitaied keyswitch o the cotrol pael for armig/ disarmig (refer to the cotrol pael istructios for this applicatio). Whe leared, pressig the lock butto arms the system ad pressig the ulock butto disarms the system. Zoe 3: Lights Butto This keypress ca be leared oly ito zoe 3. Whe leared, pressig this butto switches the zoe 3 output. The output ca be cofigured to switch mometarily (default) or maitaied (toggle o/off for each press) (See Cofigurig Touchpad Zoe Output Resposes). Zoe 4: Star Butto This keypress ca be leared oly ito zoe 4. Whe leared, pressig this butto switches the zoe 4 output. The output ca be cofigured to switch mometarily (default) or maitaied (toggle) (See Cofigurig Touchpad Zoe Output Resposes). Zoe 5: Lock Butto This keypress ca be leared ito zoe 2 (as detailed above) or zoe 5. Whe leared ito zoe 5, pressig this butto switches the zoe 5 output. The output ca be cofigured to switch mometarily (default) or maitaied (toggle) (See Cofigurig Touchpad Zoe Output Resposes). Zoe 6: Ulock Butto This keypress ca be leared ito zoe 2 (as above) or zoe 6. Whe leared ito zoe 6, pressig this butto switches the zoe 6 output. The output ca be cofigured to switch mometarily (default) or maitaied (toggle) (See Cofigurig Touchpad Zoe Output Resposes). Tamper ad Trouble Coditios Zoe 7: RF jam detectio is set up to automatically moitor for radio sigals that ca jam the receiver. However, oce a trasmitter is leared ito zoe 7, the RF jam detectio is disabled. Zoe 8: Cover/Atea tamper is set up to automatically moitor cover ad atea removal. However, oce a trasmitter is leared ito zoe 8, the cover/atea tamper is disabled. Low Battery Receiver termial B activates wheever the receiver gets a sigal from a trasmitter with a low battery. To moitor for low trasmitter battery coditios, coect the receiver s B output to a cotrol pael zoe iput. RF Supervisio Receiver termial S activates wheever the receiver goes four hours without receivig a sigal from a supervised trasmitter. To moitor for RF supervisio, coect the receiver s S output to a cotrol pael zoe iput. Page 6

7 Programmig the Receiver Paic Buttos ad Wireless Sesors Paic Buttos Use zoe 1 for up to 45 usupervised paic butto trasmitters. Use zoes 2-8 for supervised paic butto trasmitters (2 per zoe). Wireless Sesors Lear wireless sesors ito remaiig uused zoes (2 per zoe). Make sure that both sesors leared ito the same zoe have the same expected respose type at the cotrol pael (i.e. delay, istat, iterior, 24-hour). Recvr. The low battery ad supervisory LEDs blik back ad forth. Zoe LEDs tur o if sesors are already leared ito those zoes. 2) Press ad release the ADV switch util the desired zoe LED turs o. (Pressig ad holdig the ADV switch advaces to the ext zoe ad causes the zoe LED to flicker.) 3) Press ad release the SEL switch oce to select this zoe for learig trasmitters. The zoe LED remais o ad the low battery ad supervisory LEDs stop flashig. 4) Trip the trasmitter(s): For sesors with tamper switches, activate the sesor s tamper switch by removig the cover. For sesors without tamper switches, put the sesor i alarm. Each time the receiver lears a sesor, the selected zoe LED bliks oce. For Keychai Touchpads: Zoe 1, press the lock ad ulock buttos together. Zoe 2, press the lock or ulock butto. Zoe 3, press the lights butto. Zoe 4, press the star butto. Zoe 5, press the lock butto. Zoe 6, press the ulock butto. Each time the receiver lears a Keychai Touchpad butto, all zoe LEDs with leared Keychai Touchpads blik oce. 5) To stop learig trasmitters i the selected zoe, slide the DIP switch dow. Repeat steps 1-4 to lear trasmitters ito other zoes. Page 7

8 Deletig Wireless Trasmitters To delete all trasmitters from a zoe: 1) Eter program mode slidig the DIP switch up. 2) Press ad release the ADV switch util the desired zoe LED turs o. 3) Press ad hold the SEL switch for five secods to delete all trasmitters from this zoe. The zoe LED should tur off. 4) Slide the dip switch dow to put the receiver i ru mode. To delete a Keychai Touchpad from the receiver: Repeat steps 1-4, for each butto o a Keychai Touchpad butto that is leared ito a zoe. A Keychai Touchpad is deleted oly whe all leared buttos are deleted from their respective zoes. Cofigurig Zoe/Trouble Outputs N/O or N/C All 8 zoes ad both trouble outputs default to N/C, ad ca be chaged to N/O. To program a zoe output N/O or N/C: 1) Eter program mode by slidig the DIP switch up. 2) Press the tamper switch oce to gai access to cofigurig zoe outputs. The low battery LED should tur o or flash. 3) Press ad release the ADV switch util the desired zoe LED turs o. 4) Press ad release the SEL switch to chage the output cofiguratio to the desired settig (zoe LED o = N/C, zoe LED off = N/O). 5) Repeat steps 3 ad 4 for each zoe cofiguratio chage. 6) Slide the DIP switch dow to retur to ru mode. To program both trouble outputs N/O or N/C: 1) Eter program mode by slidig the DIP switch up. 2) Press the tamper switch oce to gai access to cofigurig zoe outputs. 3) Press ad release the ADV switch util all zoe LEDs are off (ie presses), to select the trouble outputs. 4) Press ad release the SEL switch to chage the trouble output cofiguratio to the desired settig (low battery LED o = N/C, low battery LED flashig = N/O). 5) Slide the DIP switch dow to retur to ru mode. Cofigurig RF Supervisio All 8 zoes default to be RF supervised, ad ca be chaged to be usupervised. To eable or disable RF supervisio o a zoe: 1) Eter program mode by slidig the DIP switch up. 2) Press the tamper switch twice to gai access to cofigurig zoe supervisio. 3) Press ad release the ADV switch util the desired zoe LED turs o. 4) Press ad release the SEL switch to chage the RF supervisio cofiguratio to the desired settig (zoe LED o = supervised, zoe LED off = usupervised). 5) Repeat steps 3 ad 4 for each zoe cofiguratio chage. 6) Slide the DIP switch dow to retur to ru mode. Note: Keychai Touchpads are ot supervised. Paic Butto trasmitters leared ito zoe 1 are ot supervised. Cofigurig Keychai Touchpad Zoe Output Resposes Zoe outputs 3 through 6 ca be set up to respod by switchig mometarily or to maitai (toggle o/off for each activatio). To chage the zoe output respose to mometary or maitaied: 1) Eter program mode slidig the DIP switch up. 2) Press the tamper switch oce to gai access to cofigurig zoe outputs. 3) Press ad release the ADV switch util the desired zoe LED (3-6) turs o. 4) Press ad release the SEL switch to chage the zoe output respose to the desired settig. The selected zoe s LED should tur off (maitaied) or o (mometary), idicatig the curret cofiguratio. 5) Advace to aother programmable optio or exit program mode by slidig the DIP switch dow. Page 8

9 Garage Door Opeer Cotrol This sectio describes how to set up a zoe with a relay to cotrol a garage door opeer. To set up garage door opeer cotrol usig a relay: 1) Lear the star butto of a 4-Butto Keychai Touchpad ito a zoe (3-6). 2) Cofigure the zoe output as N/O, mometary. 3) Coect a relay to the zoe output (see Figure 9). Light Cotrol To set up light cotrol: 1) Lear the lights butto of a 4-Butto Keychai Touchpad ito zoe 3. 2) Cofigure zoe 3 for N/O if you wat the zoe 3 LED to tur o whe lights are o, or-- cofigure zoe 3 for N/C if you wat the zoe 3 LED to tur o whe lights are off. 3) Cofigure zoe 3 output as maitaied (see Cofigurig Keychai Touchpad Zoe Output Resposes). 4) Set the uit code ad house code dials o the Powerflash Iterface Module to match those o the Lamp Module(s). 5) Set the Powerflash Iterface Module iput switch to B ad the mode switch to 3. 6) Coect receiver termial 3 to the Powerflash Iterface Module s egative (-) termial. 7) Coect the receiver GND termial to the Powerflash Iterface Module s positive (+) termial. 8) Plug i the Powerflash Iterface Module ad all Lamp Modules. X-10 Applicatios There are two ways to use X-10 devices: Light Cotrol usig a X-10 Powerflash Iterface Module (13-058) ad X-10 Lamp Modules (13-204), the lights butto o a 4-Butto Keychai Touchpad ca be used to cotrol lights. Garage Door Opeer Cotrol usig a X-10 Powerflash Iterface Module (13-058) ad a X- 10 Uiversal Module (13-399), the star butto o a 4-Butto Keychai Touchpad ca be used to cotrol a garage door opeer. Garage Door Opeer Cotrol To set up garage door opeer cotrol usig X-10 modules: 1) Lear the star butto of a 4-Butto Keychai Touchpad ito a zoe (3-6). 2) Cofigure the zoe as N/O, mometary. 3) Set the uit code ad house code dials o the Powerflash Iterface Module to match those o the Uiversal Module. 4) Set the Powerflash Iterface Module iput switch to B ad the mode switch to 3. 5) O the Uiversal Module, set the lower-left switch to mometary ad the lower-right switch to relay oly. 6) Coect the zoe output termial to the Powerflash Iterface Module s positive (+) termial. 7) Coect the receiver GND termial to the Powerflash Iterface Module s egative (-) termial. 8) Plug i the Powerflash Iterface Module ad Uiversal Module. 9) Coect the garage door opeer wires to the N/O relay coectio o the Uiversal Module. 10 Coectig the Receiver to a Cotrol Pael RECEIVER TERMINALS There are four ways to wire the loop receiver to the cotrol pael. Refer to Figures 10 through 13 for pael coectios. Wirig Diagram for a N/C Loop 8896G You ca test the receiver two ways: (1) coutig the LED flashes whe trasmitters are tripped or (2) coutig the beeps emitted by a attached piezo beeper (optioal). To test the system usig the receiver s LED: 1) Make sure the DIP switch is dow (ormal operatio/ru mode). 2) Trip all sesors i the system. Page 10

11 3) After each trip, watch for the correct umber of LED flashes (see Table 3). To test the system usig a piezo beeper: 1) Coect a piezo (30-006) beeper betwee the test output (T) ad groud (GND) (see Figure 14). Figure 14.
