6 The North American Manufacturing Industry: Growing Together North America s manufacturing industry is on a remarkable growth curve. An increasingly technical labor force, combined with rising offshore wages and a growing need to accelerate time to market, has prompted many companies to move away from offshoring. Instead, they are turning to next-shoring developing products closer to where they will be sold. Next-shoring enables manufacturers to increase the speed at which products are replenished on store shelves, leading to greater customer satisfactions.
