3 The Role JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Department: Hours: Reporting to: Location: Salary: Membership Development Manager Membership 37.5 hpw Monday to Friday Director of Membership London Office up to 35,000 pa KEY PURPOSE Act as key Account Manager for UK Youth s subscription based relationships including membership, and registrations for our awards and accreditations. Core to the role is managing and developing relationships, creating and delivering new processes and ways of working to deliver the highest level of customer service. Working from the ground up you will identify and deliver new and innovative relationship management processes and embed them into the work of the team and the charity in order to apply a member centric approach. At the same time as developing and delivering new membership incentives and communication strategies. You will also be required to refresh and grow the registration packages for membership and accreditations while driving corresponding income streams. Driving forward agreed strategies, working on implementation, from planning and launch to evaluation, to realise current targets and new income streams. KEY TASKS MANAGEMENT Oversee all renewal systems and communications, supporting the Membership Officer who will administer these activities Lead on the planning and delivery of benefits and services including members events and develop a regular programme of activities for members Work alongside the National Programmes team to ensure that membership events are coordinated with the standard programme of events Identify and secure opportunities for member and training development Ensure the development of the annual member communications programme identifying key touchpoints and delivery channels Be the internal champion for the CRM database, maintaining an overarching understanding of how the database is used throughout the organisation Manage accreditation/award scheme for young people working with membership Regularly interrogate and analyse the database to support the recruitment and retention activities Oversee the production of the quarterly members newsletter Quality control on all membership communications, advertising and literature to ensure they comply with UK Youth brand guidelines Maintain a strong understanding of membership practices within the wider youth and charity sector, attending networking events as and when appropriate Work with the Director of Membership in setting the annual budget for the Membership area of work Manage and operate within the agreed business plan and budget to ensure that UK Youth Membership targets are met Lead the recruitment of new members of the Membership team Line manage, develop and motivate members of the Membership team whether they are employees, consultants, volunteers or interns, conducting regular one-to-ones and performance appraisals

4 The Job DELIVERY Develop and execute department processes to secure increased UKY revenue to support membership With the Director of Membership, develop and implement a Membership growth strategy, covering sales, marketing and retention, in order to deliver volume and income growth against ambitious targets Source and manage data to develop a strong prospect pool for membership and training Develop and manage the delivery of campaigns to recruit new members and to retain existing members Ensure that the membership offering is clearly presented through UK Youth s digital channels, onsite for visitors, and across UK Youth s wider national programme activities Research and acquire opportunities to promote membership via partnerships or third party affiliates Act as the primary contact for members beyond the day-to-day administration of the scheme as carried out by the Membership Executive and Membership Development Executive Develop membership retention strategies and targets Develop a membership customer journey identifying key touch points and sales opportunities for the Youth Knowledge Platform Create membership data into comprehensive reports that can be delivered at senior management and board level Attend all membership meetings and events as required throughout the year GENERAL Always to act as a positive ambassador for the organisation, contributing to the effectiveness of meetings, the sharing of knowledge and experience, and the development of UK Youth and its profile. Attend one to one meetings and annual appraisals with line manager Participate proactively in staff meetings, team meetings and other meetings as required. Work effectively with colleagues to achieve objectives Represent UK Youth at external meetings and events as required, including national & internal travel Support organisation wide initiatives Support colleagues from other teams to achieve their objectives raising the profile of the organisation using all marketing and communications mechanics/tools Take reasonable care of his/her own health and safety and for that of others who might be affected by his/her work, as required by law and described in the relevant operating procedures and policies for his /her area of work. Undertake any other duties and reasonable requests that are in keeping with the nature of this post. 5 Person Specification Qualifications and training Educated to degree level or equivalent, or with a professional qualification Evidence of continuing professional development in the area of membership IQA qualified Experience Direct experience and thorough understanding of managing membership schemes Experience of delivering multi-channel marketing campaigns and the ability to use digital marketing tools Extensive experience CRM/stakeholder management systems and interrogating data and reporting Track record of delivering significant income growth Experience of working in the voluntary sector Experience of leading a membership scheme within a similar organisation Event management experience Experience of internal quality assurance skills and Ability to analyse data and develop information into reports for wider understanding dissemination and presentation Ability to engage staff across the organisation to assist in fundraising Empathy with the needs of young people and the work of UK Youth Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills Excellent copywriting and editing skills Knowledge of UK Gift Aid, Data Protection and other legislation concerning membership Well developed IT skills, including Microsoft Office An understanding of Safeguarding and Health and Safety policies and practices in the workplace. Personal A pro-active approach, self-motivated and enthusiastic with very high qualities levels of initiative, innovative and imaginative thinking High level organisation, attention to detail and time management skills Ability to work under pressure Excellent influencing and persuading skills A can do and flexible approach with ability adapt to changing priorities, including a willingness to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends when necessary Essential (must have) Desirable (optional)

6 Who We Are Our History UK Youth was founded in 1911 as the National Organisation of Girls Clubs. It became the National Association of Girls Clubs and Mixed Clubs in 1944 and the National Association of Youth Clubs in In 1987, it became known as Youth Clubs UK and adopted its current title UK Youth in In it celebrated its centenary year. Who We Are UK Youth is a leading national charity that empowers young people to take control of their own lives and reach their full potential. We do this by connecting a vast network of youth groups across the UK and running a range of innovative programmes that help young people develop the skills, knowledge and experience they need to succeed in life. Young people today face the triple whammy of high unemployment, high costs of living and poor pension provision. They are growing up in a world where education and training are expensive and offer no guarantee of employment, there is little job security, and employer investment in professional development and career planning is declining. Yet, despite this, most young people remain remarkably positive, generous with their time and energy, and keen to give back to society. At UK Youth we believe we must work alongside young people to find solutions to these intractable problems and empower them to completely reshape their role in society. We support them through training and publications and providing a wide range of free resources and activities. UK Youth has developed a sector leading reputation for working with corporate funders and attracting major investments for national projects that are delivered locally through our network members, with support from our national staff. UK Youth s projects create opportunities for young people to be actively involved in the decision making process. Many of our biggest national projects are youth led and young people make up over 15% of our Trustee Board. UK Youth Voice, our national youth steering group ensures that we put young people at the heart of everything we do. This steering group of year olds plays a major role in governing the charity and shaping the development and delivery of our programmes. UK Youth has offices in London but our historical base is our Outdoor Activity Centre at Avon Tyrrell in the New Forest National Park. Over 17,000 young people each year experience the opportunity to learn outside the classroom. The Team UK Youth currently employs 80 skilled and dedicated staff across England. Our staff are primarily based between Avon Tyrrell and our London Office, with a number of home-based staff across the country. The Trustees We have a highly committed Board of Trustees which includes three young trustees from our youth steering board UK Youth Voice, CEO s of regional and National Youth Organisations, corporate executives, academics, and finance professionals.

7 What We Do Our current programmes The Big Music Project works with the biggest brands in music and creates opportunities for young people across the UK, from training schemes and careers advice to work experience, internships and community youth music projects. It equips young people with the skills and knowledge they need to create a successful future in the music and creative industries. The Big Music Project is delivered in partnership with Global Radio (who own Capital, Capital TRA, Radio and others) and is funded by The Big Lottery Fund. Generation Code inspires and ignites young people to engage in and learn about computer science and app development through coding. Young people are guided through an engaging course, and with their new skills, work in teams to pitch an idea of how to use coding to enhance their local community. Generation Code is funded by Microsoft. Active Youth gets inactive young people from deprived areas in Cumbria, Leicestershire, Cheshire West and the Wirral involved in physical activity. Get active courses are designed and delivered by young activity ambassadors to their peers. Active Youth is funded by Sport England. Money for Life delivers a financial education programme for young people vulnerable to financial exclusion in some of the most deprived areas across the UK. Money for Life is funded by Lloyds TSB Youth Action provides training and seed funding to support young people to take action and create positive change within their local communities. Youth Action is funded by Starbucks and Cabinet Office. Road Code gets young people to think about road safety prior to starting to learn to drive through interactive training delivered by UPS volunteers. Road Code is funded by UPS. Youth Achievement Awards encourage young people to take on responsibility and create a personalised learning programme based around their own interests. The awards help accredit achievements and use skills such as leadership, creativity and research, helping to build confidence and promote life skills.
