On this course you will gain essential skills you ll need for a hairdressing apprenticeship. Learn in a real salon environment with work-based training to help you develop practical skills in hairdressing and salon operation: customer service, team work, time management, communication and self-management. This one-year programme will give you nationally recognised hairdressing skills, or you might like to continue your training at an advanced level. You ll be working with real clients learning consultation skills, colouring and styling. You ll also cover salon organisation, customer service and retail. LEARNING BY DOING During your study you ll need to do work experience this can either be in your hometown or in Hamilton salons. There ll also be opportunities to work on models for the catwalk and to enter competitions run by Wintec or local organisations. Duration: Starts February for one year Study: Full-time Location: Hamilton City Campus This programme is an extension of the Certificate in Hairdressing (Level 3). Further develop your professional hairdressing skills to help open up a world of opportunities, from salon ownership, fashion catwalk work, working on cruise ships or overseas. Gain credits towards the National Certificate in Hairdressing (Level 4) while you work towards the Wintec Certificate in Hairdressing (Level 4). WHAT YOU LL STUDY Modules Cut the Hair (Scissors) - Learn the basic theory of cutting hair with scissors and the practical skills involved with using scissors, clippers and a razor Cut the Hair (Razor) - Learn the basic theory of cutting hair and the practical skills involved with using scissors, clippers and a razor Advanced Hair Design - Gain advanced styling skills in setting hair and creating long hair designs. Learn to identify a client s wants and needs and perform the skills required on the client to achieve the desired result Colouring Techniques - Gain an understanding of the principles of permanent colour and bleaching of the hair, as well as completing assessments in permanent colour, woven highlights and bleaching and toning the hair Straightening - Gain the knowledge required to chemically straighten hair and relaxing a permanent. Learn to consult with clients and identify their wants and needs to identify their desired result Colour Correction- Learn to remove unwanted additives from the hair, neutralise unwanted colours, consult with clients and meet their requirements Consultation - Gain the skills required to consult with clients about hairdressing services and analysing hair and scalp condition and learn about corrective treatments and hairdressing products On completion of the programme, to become a qualified Hairdresser, you ll need to work in a salon to establish a clientele and complete three final unit standards. This is so that you learn to establish and build clientele and gain further knowledge of salon operations. Unit standards can be credited towards the National Certificate in Hairdressing (Hairdressing Practice) (Level 4). My tutors gave me a good solid grounding in cookery, knife skills, stock rotation, respect for ingredients and the kitchen hierarchy.
