3 Introduction To The Beauty Academy The Beauty Academy was established in 1990 to provide the highest quality, short term, intensive beauty therapy training courses. During every beauty course, emphasis is placed on practical work in small groups where each student receives a great deal of individual attention and there is a lot of opportunity to ask questions. Our students say they are delighted at how quickly they learn and how confident and competent they feel after just a few days. Since we pioneered short-term private beauty courses, 23 years ago, the market has changed quite a bit. Today there are many schools offering courses but these are often held in hotels, trainer s homes or in local hair or beauty salons with very little genuine quality control and consistency of standards. We have 11 purpose designed training centres around England and all of our centres have the latest quality products and equipment essential for today s professional courses. Verifiers from our qualification awarding bodies regularly inspect these centres. Following successful completion of your beauty training all students are awarded The Beauty Academy Diploma, which allows you to obtain insurance and start your own business working from home or as a mobile beauty therapist. To be employed in a salon or spa you will need to have an NVQ qualification or a City & Guild award and we have designed our courses to help you achieve these levels as quickly and as economically as possible. We also offer a selection of more advanced beauty courses that enable those already skilled in the industry to further their abilities. 10 Syllabus This is the format for all our courses: The Beauty Academy courses always begin with a short presentation introducing you to the subject being studied. This is carried out in an informal way and students can make notes at this time in their course manual and feel comfortable to ask questions. The subjects covered relate directly to the course, and include the following: Professional ethics Client consultation and record keeping Safety and hygiene in the salon Contra-indications to the treatment Preparation of the client and materials Anatomy and physiology Client aftercare As emphasis is placed on practical work, this will begin following the presentation and continue for the rest of the day. Following successful completion of your course you will be awarded The Beauty Academy diploma. The same basic approach also applies to our NVQ courses. The Beauty Academy Beauty Therapist Insurance Scheme Whether you are a student completing your case work study or an experienced therapist you will need insurance to protect yourself from potential claims. The indemnity limit is 6,000,000 with an unlimited number of claims in the year, unlimited defence costs and no policy excess charge.
