2 Working hours and conditions As a beauty therapist, your working hours would typically be 9am to 5pm, including Saturdays. Some salons offer evening appointments. You could work in a high street salon or beauty clinic, health spa, hotel, or on a cruise ship. You could also be self-employed, either working from home or visiting clients in their own homes. Fitness is important to this role as you may spend a lot of your time standing. There are no specified entry requirements to this qualification, however applicants must meet the following BHA entry requirements: BHA Entry Requirements: be a minimum age of 16 have satisfactorily completed Year 10 Satisfactorily complete a LL&N test. Students enrolling into the Beauty Therapy course at BHA and who have metal pins, screws, plates, and body piercings will need to provide a doctors certificate releasing them to work with electrical machinery. Teaching The course is delivered through lectures, presentations by industry experts,

4 Methods demonstrations, visual aids, observations, practice and critiques. The course is taught in two phases (basic training and salon sessions). Basic Training: Includes classroom presentations and lectures. Salon Sessions: Is conducted in the college s simulated salon which allows students to gain hands on experience. Assessments may include, but are not limited to theory assessment, analysis sheets, portfolios, practical observation and project related assessments. Employability Skills Employability Skills have been integrated into the assessments, which relate to the unit/s of competency and the assessment plan. Student Support Services Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LL&N) support will be provided in all subjects as part of the normal tuition and assessment activities. Have you worked or studied in this field before? Recognition of prior learning RPL allows you the opportunity to be recognised for skills experience and study that you may have already attained. To gain RPL you will need to contact the college for our RPL kit, which will guide you through the process of presenting your evidence. RPL will only be granted before the start of the course, or within the first two weeks of starting of the course. There is a fee for the RPL service which is detailed in the RPL kit. These are marked using competency based assessment that is you are either competent or not yet competent. Re-assessment Information Qualification / Course Requirements Re assessment information, students have 3 attempts at each summative assessment, if the student is deemed not yet competent for all 3 attempts then the student will need to re-sit the entire cycle again and pay the associated costs.
