Getting Started Adbe HTTP Dynamic Streaming is a slutin that allws yu t stream live and n-demand cntent ver HTTP t Adbe Flash Player When cntent streams ver HTTP, clients can seek quickly t any lcatin. HTTP Dynamic Streaming supprts adaptive streaming, DVR functinality, and Adbe Flash Access prtectin. Overview Abut HTTP Streaming Delivering cntent ver HTTP is called prgressive dwnlad. The cntent must transfer frm the server t the client in a prgressin frm the beginning t the end f a file. A client cannt seek t a frward lcatin until that lcatin and all the data befre it has dwnladed. Delivering cntent ver RTMP is called streaming. The media server (such as Flash Media Server) creates a scket cnnectin t the client ver which the cntent is sent in a cntinuus stream. The client can seek t any pint in the cntent instantly, regardless f hw much data has been transferred. HTTP Dynamic Streaming cmbines these appraches t intrduce HTTP streaming t the Flash Platfrm. HTTP Dynamic Streaming packages media files int fragments that Flash Player clients can access instantly withut dwnlading the entire file. Adbe HTTP Dynamic Streaming cntains several cmpnents that wrk tgether t package media and stream it ver HTTP t Flash Player. Cmpnents The Adbe HTTP Dynamic Streaming slutin cntains the fllwing cmpnents: File Packager A cmmand-line tl that translates n-demand media files int fragments and writes the fragments t F4F files. Yu can use the File Packager t encrypt files fr use with Flash Access. Fr mre infrmatin, see Packaging n-demand media. The File Packager is available frm adbe.cm and is installed with Adbe Flash Media Server t the rtinstall/tls/f4fpackager flder. Live Packager fr HTTP Dynamic Streaming The Live Packager fr HTTP Dynamic Streaming is part f Adbe Flash Media Server. The server ingests a live stream ver RTMP and translates it int F4F files. The built-in Apache HTTP Server uses the HTTP Origin Mdule t deliver the live cntent ver HTTP. Fr mre infrmatin, see Packaging live media. HTTP Origin Mdule An Apache HTTP Server mdule that serves the n-demand files created by the File Packager and the live streams created by Flash Media Server. Fr mre infrmatin, see Installing and cnfiguring the HTTP Origin Mdule. Dwnlad the HTTP Mdule frm adbe.cm. OSMF Player Built n the Open Surce Media Framewrk (OSMF), this vide player runs in Flash Player Fr mre infrmatin, see Using the OSMF Player. Dwnlad the OSMF Player frm smf.rg.

F4F File Frmat Specificatin The F4F file frmat describes hw t divide media cntent int segments and fragments. Each fragment has its wn btstrap infrmatin that prvides cache management and fast seeking. Fr mre infrmatin, see F4F File Frmat Specificatin. F4M File Frmat Specificatin The Flash Media Manifest file frmat cntains infrmatin abut a package f files that the HTTP Origin Mdule can serve. Manifest infrmatin includes cdecs, reslutins, and the availability f files encded at multiple bit rates. Manifest infrmatin als includes DRM data. Fr mre infrmatin, see F4M File Frmat Specificatin. Flash Access Flash Access delivers prtected media t Flash Player. T use HTTP Dynamic Streaming with Flash Access, use the File Packager and Flash Media Server t bth package and encrypt cntent. Fr mre infrmatin, see Prtecting cntent with Flash Access. System Requirements The fllwing are the system requirements fr HTTP Dynamic Streaming Cmpnent Flash Media Interactive Server 3.8 File Packager HTTP Origin Mdule Requirement This versin f Flash Media Server supprts live and n-demand HTTP Dynamic Streaming. HTTP Dynamic Streaming File Packager Use this tl fr n-demand streaming. Live Packager fr HTTP Dynamic Streaming (part f Flash Media Server) Use this tl fr live streaming. Imprtant: D nt use the Flash Access packaging tls t encrypt cntent. The HTTP Dynamic Streaming packagers cannt fragment cntent that has already been encrypted. Use the HTTP Dynamic Streaming packagers t bth encrypt and fragment cntent.

Wrkflw fr using Flash Access with live HTTP Dynamic Streaming 1) A camera captures a live event and sends the utput t an encder such as Flash Media Live Encder. 2) The encder sends a stream t the Live Packager fr HTTP Dynamic Streaming which is part f Flash Media Server. Fr infrmatin abut cnfiguring Flash Media Live Encder t send a stream t the Live Packager, see Tutrial: Live HTTP Dynamic Streaming n page 9. 3) Cnfigure the Live Packager t fragment and encrypt the cntent. The Live Packager prcesses the cntent in real time. T cnfigure the Live Packager t encrypt cntent, edit the Event.xml file. See Event.xml file. 4) The Live Packager utputs the fragmented and prtected files needed fr HTTP Dynamic Streaming. Each fragment is persistently prtected in bth the CDN cache and the brwser cache. 5) The OSMF Player des the fllwing: a. Requests the file fragments and plays them back seamlessly. b. Obtains a cntent license frm Flash Access Server fr Prtected Streaming. The cntent license cntains the key required t play the cntent t legitimate clients. c. Decrypts the cntent in real-time. Wrkflw fr Using Flash Access with n-demand HTTP Dynamic Streaming 1) Use the File Packager t package and encrypt cntent. See File Packager reference. 2) Cpt the packaged files t an Apache HTTP Server that uses the HTTP Dynamic Streaming Origin Mdule. 3) The OSMF Player des the fllwing: a. Requests the file fragments and plays them back seamlessly. b. Obtains a cntent license frm Flash Access Server fr Prtected Streaming. The cntent license cntains the key required t play the cntent t legitimate clients. c. Decrypts the cntent in real-time.

Quickstart Tutrial: On-demand HTTP Dynamic Streaming Fllw these steps t create yur first end-t-end, n-demand, multi-bitrate HTTP Dynamic Streaming applicatin. 1) D ne f the fllwing t install Apache: Install Flash Media Server 3.8 r later. Cpy the OSMF Player files (including the \scripts, \images, and \assets flders and their files) t the DcumentRt flder. This flder is the parent f the vd flder. Nte: If the DcumentRt flder already cntains an images flder, cpy the files in the OSMF Player \images flder t the DcumentRt\images flder. Open a web brwser and enter the address f the OSMF Player. This tutrial uses Nte: OSMF Player requires Flash Player Click the Eject buttn and enter Click Play. T test multi-bitrate streaming, click the Q buttn t turn n manual switching. Click Q- and Q+ t shift dwn and up. Understanding the On-demand Tutrial T play a vide in OSMF Player, request an F4M file, als called a manifest file. The request syntax fr n-demand streaming is: e>/<lcatin-tag-alias>/<manifest-file-name>.f4m Nte: The syntax is the same fr all n-demand use cases. The fllwing table explains the variables in the request syntax: Variable <server-name> <lcatin-tag-alias> <manifest-file-name> Descriptin The dmain name r IP address f the cmputer hsting Flash Media Server. In this tutrial, OSMF Player and Flash Media Server are n the same cmputer, s the value is lcalhst. This value is cnfigured in a Lcatin directive in the Apache /cnf/httpd.cnf file. The default value fr n-demand http streaming in the Apache HTTP Server that installs with Flash Media Server is vd. The name f the manifest (.f4m) file created by the File Packager.

Tutrial: Live HTTP Dynamic Streaming Fllw these steps t create yur first end-t-end, live HTTP Dynamic Streaming applicatin. 1) Install Flash Media Interactive Server 3.8 and chse t install Apache HTTP Server ) Cnfigure Flash Media Live Encder t use abslute time. Clse Flash Media Live Encder. Open the Flash Media Live Encder the rtinstall\cnf\cnfig.xml file in a text editr. Set the tag //flashmedialiveencder_cnfig/mbrcnfig/streamsynchrnizatin/enable t true: <flashmedialiveencder_cnfig> <mbrcnfig> <streamsynchrnizatin> <!-- "true" t enable this feature, "false" t disable.--> <enable>true</enable> Save the file. 3) T publish a live stream t Flash Media Server, start Flash Media Live Encder and d the fllwing: In the Encding Optins panel, frm the Preset pp-up menu, chse Multi Bitrate - 3 Streams (1500 Kbps) - H.264. Click the wrench next t Frmat t pen Advanced Encder Settings. Fr Keyframe frequency, select 4 secnds. Nte: This value matches the <FragmentDuratin> value in the applicatins/livepkgr/events/_definst_/liveevent/event.xml file. The <FragmentDuratin> value is in millisecnds. Fr Bit Rate, chse 100, 200, and 350. Nte: These values match the <media bitrate> values in the applicatins/livepkgr/events/_definst_/liveevent/manifest.xml file. In the FMS URL text bx, enter rtmp://lcalhst/livepkgr. Nte: This applicatin is installed with Flash Media Server and cntains a main.asc file and cnfiguratin files fr live HTTP Dynamic Streaming. In the Stream text bx, enter livestream%i?adbe-live-event=liveevent&adbe-http-streaming-ver=1.0. Nte: The applicatins/livepkgr/main.asc file expects this value. Click Start. 4) T play the media in the OSMF Player, d the fllwing: Cpy the OSMF Player files t the rtinstall\webrt flder (including the \scripts, \images, and \assets flders and their files). The webrt flder already cntains an \images flder s cpy the files frm the OSMF Player \images flder t the existing \images flder. Open a web brwser and enter the address f the OSMF Player: Nte: OSMF Player requires Flash Player Click the Eject buttn, enter and press Enter n yur keybard.

Understanding the Live Tutrial Understanding the Request URL T play a vide in OSMF Player, request an F4M file, als called a manifest file. Imprtant: Fr live streaming, the HTTP Origin Mdule generates the F4M file in real-time. The F4M file is nt written t disk, yu cannt see it n the server. The request syntax fr multi-bitrate streaming is: e>/<lcatin-tag-alias>/events/<fms-app-nam e>/events/<fms-app-inst-nam e>/<live-event-nam e>.f4m The fllwing table explains the variables in the request syntax: Variable <server-name> <lcatin-tag-alias> <fms-app-name> <fms-app-inst-name> <live-event-name> <live-stream-name> Descriptin The dmain name r IP address f the cmputer hsting Flash Media Server. In this tutrial, OSMF Player and Flash Media Server are n the same cmputer, s the value is lcalhst. This value is cnfigured in a Lcatin directive in the Apache /cnf/httpd.cnf file. The default value fr live http streaming is live. The name f the Flash Media Server applicatin t which live streams are published. Live streams published t this applicatin are prcessed by the Live Packager. The name f the applicatin is livepkgr. The name f the Flash Media Server applicatin instance. The default applicatin instance is _definst_. The name f the live event within the Flash Media Server applicatin. The default live event is liveevent. W hen yu publish a single stream (nt multiple streams encded at different bit rates), the default live event name is the same as the stream name. The name f the stream published t the Flash Media Server applicatin. This tutrial uses multi-bitrate streaming. Hwever, yu may chse t publish a single stream instead. The request syntax fr a single stream is: e>/<lcatin-tag-alias>/events/<fms-app-nam e>/events/<fms-app-inst-nam e>/<live-stream - nam e>.f4m T publish a single stream, in Flash Media Live Encder, chse a single stream Preset. In the Stream text bx, enter livestream%i. Files Created by the Live Packager T play a stream in OSMF Player, request a.f4m file. OSMF Player cntains lgic that requests additinal files when a user seeks, pauses, and plays media. The Live Packager creates these files when the server ingests a live stream. Yu dn t need t d anything with these files, but yu may want t knw where they re lcated n the server. In the rtinstall\applicatins\livepkgr\events\_definst_\liveevent flder, the Live Packager creates a.stream file fr each live stream published t the livepkgr applicatin. The name f the.stream file is encded, fr example, MzgyODc4OTAyMg=.stream. Open the file in a text editr t see the cntent. In the rtinstall\applicatins\livepkgr\streams\_definst_ flder, the Live Packager creates a flder with the name f each stream, livestream1, livestream2, and livestream3. The Live Packager creates the fllwing files in each flder: livestream#.btstrap livestream#.cntrl livestream#.meta livestream#seg#.f4f livestream#seg#.f4x

Installing and Cnfiguring the HTTP Origin Mdule The HTTP Origin Mdule is an extensin t Apache HTTP Server that serves cntent packaged fr HTTP Dynamic Streaming. The HTTP Origin Mdule is available frm Adbe and is installed with Flash Media Interactive Server 3.8. Abut the HTTP Origin Mdule HTTP Origin Mdule Requirements The HTTP Origin Mdule is an extensin t Apache HTTP Server versin 2.2. The HTTP Origin Mdule prcesses F4F, F4M, F4X,.btstrap and.drmmeta files. Fr mre infrmatin abut these file types, see Input file frmats and utput file frmats Flash Media Interactive Server 3.8 includes Apache HTTP Server and the HTTP Origin Mdule and is cnfigured fr HTTP Dynamic Streaming. The HTTP Origin Mdule reference implementatin available n adbe.cm supprts n-demand streaming nly. Yu can install this HTTP Origin Mdule n any installatin f Apache HTTP Server 2.2. Data Flw thrugh the HTTP Origin Mdule T play a file in the OSMF Player, yu prvide nly the URL t an F4M file. The OSMF Player autmatically handles the transactins in steps ) The client sends an HTTP request fr media t Apache, fr example: 2) Apache passes the request t the HTTP Origin Mdule. 3) The HTTP Origin Mdule returns the F4M file t the client. 4) The client receives the F4M file and uses the btstrap infrmatin t translate time cde int a segment#/fragment# pair. 5) The client sends a secnd HTTP request t Apache and asks fr a specific fragment frm the F4F file, fr example: 6) Apache receives the request and passes the request t the HTTP Origin Mdule. 7) The HTTP Origin Mdule uses the index file (F4X) t translate the request int a byte ffset in the F4F file. It sends the cntents f this file that crrespnd t Segment1 and Fragment. This partial cntent is an F4F fragment, fr example: 8) The client receives the fragment and starts playback based n the btstrap infrmatin prvided with the fragment and the infrmatin frm the F4M file.

Requesting Files frm the HTTP Origin Mdule T request a file frm the HTTP Origin Mdule, see the fllwing: Requesting live stream s Requesting n-demand files Cnfigure Apache and Flash Media Server t Run n the Same Cmputer The Flash Media Server installer includes Apache HTTP Server. By default, Flash Media Server receives all traffic n prt 80 and prxies it t Apache n prt Prxying the traffic can cause perfrmance issues with HTTP Dynamic Streaming because f the high number f HTTP requests at bth edge and rigin netwrk lcatins. T fix this issue, cnfigure Flash Media Server nt t use prt 80 and cnfigure Apache t use prt 80. T Cnfigure Flash Media Server nt t use Prt 80: 1) Open the rtinstall/cnf/fms.ini file in a text editr. 2) Remve prt 80 frm the ADAPTOR.HOSTPORT parameter, as fllws: ADAPTOR.HOSTPORT = :1935 3) Remve the value frm the HTTPPROXY.HOST parameter as fllws: HTTPPROXY.HOST = 4) Save and clse the fms.ini file. 5) Restart the server. T Cnfigure Apache t use Prt 80: 1) Open the rtinstall/apache2.2/cnf/httpd.cnf file in a text editr. 2) Lcate the line Listen 8134 and change it t the fllwing: Listen 80 3) Save and clse the httpd.cnf file. 4) Restart the server. Nte: Alternately, yu can cnfigure Apache t use a prt ther than prt 80. T use a prt ther than 80, request URLs must cntain the prt number. By default, Apache n Flash Media Server is cnfigured t use prt This URL requests an n-demand HTTP Dynamic Streaming manifest file: Installing and Cnfiguring the HTTP Origin Mdule Prerequisites Install Apache HTTP Server versin 2.2 r later. Install the HTTP Origin Mdule Cpy the fllwing files t the Apache \mdules flder: (Windws) md_f4fhttp.s, adbe_f4v.dll, libexpat.dll (Linux) md_f4fhttp.s, libf4v.s, libexpat.s

The mdule is nt allwed t access files utside the sandbx. Add the fllwing: <Lcatin /vd> HttpStreamingEnabled true HttpStreamingCntentPath "C:\Prgram Files\Apache Sftware Fundatin\Apache2.2\htdcs\vd" </Lcatin> Substitute yur wn values fr the values in italics. Directive <lcatin> HttpStreamingEnabled HTTPStreamingCntentPath Descriptin The sectin f the request URL that maps t the physical lcatin yu specify in the HTTPStreamingCntentPath directive. D nt include an http prefix (such as vernam e ) in the <lc atin> path. Indicates whether HTTP streaming is enabled (true) r nt (false). The physical lcatin f the cntent. Use an abslute path that includes the DcumentRt. In this example, the HTTP Origin Mdule can prcess files in the C:\Prgram Files\Apache Sftware Fundatin\Apache2.2\htdcs\vd flder r in any f its subflders. 4) Save and clse the file. 5) Restart Apache HTTP Server. Nte: An httpd.cnf file can cntain multiple Lcatin directives. Yu can cnfigure a Lcatin directive fr ndemand media and anther fr live media. Requesting On-demand Files In the httpd.cnf file HttpStreamingCntentPath directive, cnfigure a lcatin fr physical files n the server. T request a file, a vide player uses the Lcatin path + the additinal path t the file. Suppse the fllwing is the Lcatin cnfiguratin: <Lcatin /vd> HttpStreamingEnabled true HttpStreamingCntentPath "C:\Prgram Files\Apache Sftware Fundatin\Apache2.2\htdcs\vd" </Lcatin> This cnfiguratin prcesses any request that cntains the path /vd. The HTTP Origin Mdule maps the request t the HttpStreamingCntentPath, fr example: Request URL Physical File Served t Client C:\Prgram Files\Apache Sftware Fundatin\Apache2.2\htdcs\vd\sample.f4m C:\Prgram Files\Apache Sftware Fundatin\Apache2.2\htdcs\vd\free_cntent\dem.f4m Nt prcessed.

The mdule is nt allwed t access files utside the sandbx. Add the fllwing: <Lcatin /live> HttpStreamingEnabled true HttpStreamingLiveEventPath "C:\Prgram Files\Adbe\Flash Media Server 3.8\applicatins" HttpStreamingCntentPath "C:\Prgram Files\Adbe\Flash Media Server 3.8\applicatins" </Lcatin> Substitute yur wn values fr the values in italics. Directive <Lcatin> HttpStreamingEnabled HttpStreamingCntentPath HttpStreamingLiveEventPath Descriptin The sectin f the request URL that maps t the physical lcatins in the HttpStreamingCntentPath directive and in the HttpStreamingLiveEventPath directive. D nt include an http prefix (such as ) in the <Lcatin> path. Indicates whether HTTP streaming is enabled (true) r nt (false). The physical lcatin f the stream files. The physical lcatin f the live event and.f4m file. 4) Save and clse the file. 5) Restart Apache HTTP Server. Nte: An httpd.cnf file can cntain multiple Lcatin directives. Yu can cnfigure a Lcatin directive fr ndemand media and anther fr live media. Requesting Live Streaming T play cntent in the OSMF Player, request a manifest file (.f4m). The OSMF Player cntains lgic that requests additinal files when a user seeks, pauses, and s n. Imprtant: Fr live use cases, the manifest file (.f4m) is nt physically present n the disk. The HTTP Origin Mdule generates the manifest file when the file is requested. In the httpd.cnf file, yu cnfigure tw lcatins fr physical files, HttpStreamingCntentPath and HttpStreamingLiveEventPath. T request a file, a vide player appends the Lcatin path with /streams r /events s the HTTP Origin Mdule knws which lcatin t use. Requests t the Lcatin path + /streams map t the HttpStreamingCntentPath flder. Requests t the Lcatin path + /events map t the HttpStreamingLiveEventPath flder. Suppse the fllwing is the Lcatin cnfiguratin: <Lcatin /live> HttpStreamingEnabled true HttpStreamingLiveEventPath "C:\Prgram Files\Adbe\Flash Media Server 3.8\applicatins" HttpStreamingCntentPath "C:\Prgram Files\Adbe\Flash Media Server 3.8\applicatins" </Lcatin>

This cnfiguratin prcesses any request that cntains the path /live/events r /live/streams, fr example: Request URL eg1-frag1 Physical File Served t Client C:\Prgram Files\Adbe\Flash Media Server 3.8\applicatins\livepkgr\events\_definst_\liveeve nt\livestream.f4m C:\Prgram Files\Adbe\Flash Media Server 3.8\applicatins\livepkgr\streams\_definst_\livestr eamseg1.f4f Nt prcessed. T use the NetStream.appendBytes() API t build an HTTP Dynamic Streaming player, yu need t request additinal files. The fllwing are the URL request frmats when Apache is cnfigured fr HTTP Dynamic Streaming: Request Type Manifest file (.f4m) Fragment Btstrap (.btstrap) Manifest file (.f4m) when an Event.xml file is nt cnfigured. Retrieves a default manifest fr playback f a single stream nt assciated with an event. Fr example, the request URI is and the mdule desn t have permissin t read the file sample.f4m. Errr ccurs when the library fails t access a file. The variable %1 is the errr cde frm the library, %2 is errr descriptin, and %3 is the url string. Errr ccurs when the request file is nt fund. The variable %s is the file path. Fr example, the request URI is but the file sample.f4m des nt exist. Errr ccurs when the library fails t find a file. The variable %1 is the errr cde frm the library, %2 is the errr descriptin, and %3 is the url string. Unknwn errr ccurs when prcessing a request, where %1 is the url string. Example: sampleseg1.f4f is nt a crrupted file. 503 Nne. The HTTP Origin Mdule returns a 503 cde s the client and the prxy servers dn t cache the respnse. In a live event, the file can be grwing and a fragment culd be missing in ne rigin server but nt missing n anther rigin server. The HTTP respnse header includes an "X-md_f4fhttp" field t prvide mre details. The fllwing is a sample respnse header: Date Thu, 04 Mar :20:20 GMT Server Apache/2.2.9 (W in32) Cntent-Length 432 Last-Mdified W ed, 27 Jan :43:25 GMT Keep- Alive timeut=5, max=100 Cnnectin Keep-Alive Cntent-Type vide/f4f X- md_f4fhttp 1, errr 71 There are tw parameters in the X-md_f4fhttp field delimited by a cmma. The first parameter is a status cde and the secnd parameter is the errr cde frm the library. There are tw status cdes: 1 - The requested fragment number is larger than the last fragment in the file (the crrespnding errr is 71). 2 - The requested fragment number is a missing fragment (the crrespnding errr is 34).

Packaging On-demand Media The File Packager is a cmmand-line tl that packages n-demand media files int a frmat that can stream ver HTTP. The File Packager can als encrypt files fr prtectin with Flash Access. Packaging On-demand Media File Packager Lcatin The File Packager is available frm the fllwing lcatin: Flash Media Interactive Server rtinstall/tls/f4fpackager flder The File Packager requires several libraries t run. These libraries are lcated in the f4fpackager flder. T mve the File Packager, mve the f4fpackager flder and all its cntents. Input File Frmats and Output File Frmats T stream n-demand media ver HTTP, prcess the file with the File Packager. The File Packager parses the cntent, translates it int segments and fragments, and writes the segments and fragments t the F4F frmat. Yu can als chse t have the File Packager encrypt the cntent fr use with Flash Access. The File Packager supprts the fllwing file frmats: F4V/MP4 cmpatible files FLV Imprtant: The file frmats can cntain any cdec the frmat supprts, except Speex audi. Yu can package a file that includes Speex audi, the File Packager des nt thrw an errr, but the audi will nt play. The File Packager utputs the fllwing files: File Type.f4f.f4m.f4x.btstrap.drmmeta Descriptin A segment. The tl utputs ne r mre F4F files. Each file cntains a segment f the surce file. Each segment cntains ne r mre fragments f cntent. A player can use a URL t address each fragment. Flash Media Manifest file. Cntains infrmatin abut cdec, reslutin, and the availability f multi-bitrate files. Index file. Cntains the lcatin f specific fragments within a stream. Btstrap file. Cntains the btstrap infrmatin fr each segment f the file. The tl creates an external.btstrap file nly if yu specify the --external-btstrap ptin. If yu dn t specify that ptin, the btstrap infrmatin is included in the manifest file. DRM Additinal Header file. Cntains additinal header infrmatin abut an encrypted file. The tl creates this file nly if yu specify the --external-btstrap ptin and encrypt the file. Otherwise, the infrmatin is included in the manifest file.

Segments and Fragments An F4f file cntains ne segment f a media file. Each segment can cntain multiple fragments. Use the --segmentduratin and --fragment-duratin ptins t set the length f each segment and fragment, in secnds. A gd size fragment is small enugh t send ver the internet and lng enugh t prevent multiple calls t Apache HTTP Server. Run the File Packager T package a file, pass the File Packager the name f the input file. There are tw ways t specify the name: Enter the --input-file ptin at the cmmand line. Create a cnfiguratin file that specifies the input file and enter the --cnf-file ptin at the cmmand line. Package Cntent n Windws 1) Open a Cmmand Windw. 2) Change directries t the directry cntaining f4fpackager.exe. 3) Enter the name f the tl and any ptins: f4fpackager --input-file=sample.f4v --utput-path=c:\sampleutput The fllwing files are utput: sampleseg1.f4f, sample.f4x, and sample.f4m. Package Cntent n Linux 1) Open a terminal windw. 2) On a clean installatin f Linux, set the LD_LIBRARY_PATH t the directry cntaining the File Packager libraries. 3) At the shell prmpt, enter the name f the tl and any ptins: f4fpackager --input-file=sample.f4v --utput-path=/sampleutput The fllwing files are utput: sampleseg1.f4f, sample.f4x, and sample.f4m. Packaging Multi-bitrate Cntent T stream multi-bitrate cntent, encde a piece f media at multiple bitrates, creating multiple files. Use the File Packager t prcess each media file individually. The media files share a manifest file that lists infrmatin abut each media file. The OSMF Player uses this infrmatin fr playback. Abut Packaging Multi-bitrate Files Each time yu run the File Packager, it creates a manifest file with the filename f the input file. When yu pass the - -manifest-file ptin, the File Packager adds the infrmatin frm the manifest file yu specify t the manifest file it creates. Fr example, suppse yu run the fllwing: --input-file=sample1.f4v The tl creates the files: sample1seg1.f4f, sample1.f4x, and sample1.f4m. Suppse yu then run the fllwing: --input-file=sample2.f4v --manifest-file=sample1.f4m The tl creates the files sample2seg1.f4f, sample2.f4x, and sample2.f4m. The manifest file sample2.f4m cntains infrmatin abut sample2.f4v and sample1.f4v.

T create a manifest file fr multi-bitrate cntent, pass the --manifest-file ptin and specify the manifest file f the previusly prcessed file. Package the files frm lwest bitrate t highest bitrate. D nt pass the --manifest-file ptin fr the first file yu prcess. Package multi-bitrate Files Nte: This example uses Windws. Fr Linux cmmands, see Package cntent n Linux n page 20. 1) Encde a media file at several bitrates, fr example, 150 kbps, 700 kbps, and 1500 kbps. This example uses three files: sample1_150kbps.f4v, sample1_700kbps.f4v, and sample1_1500kbps.f4v. On Flash Media Server, these files are installed t rtinstall\applicatins\vd\media. 2) Cpy the files t the same flder as the File Packager. On Flash Media Interactive Server 3.8, the File Packager is lcated in the rtinstall\tls\f4fpackager flder. 3) Open a Cmmand Windw. 4) Change directries t the directry cntaining f4fpackager.exe. 5) Enter the fllwing: f4fpackager --input-file=sample1_150kbps.f4v --bitrate=150 The fllwing files are utput: sample1_150kbpsseg1.f4f, sample1_150kbps.f4x, and sample1_150kbps.f4m. 6) Enter the fllwing t prcess the secnd file: f4fpackager --input-file=sample1_700kbps.f4v --manifest-file=sample1_150kbps.f4m --bitrate=700 The fllwing files are utput: sample1_700kbpsseg1.f4f, sample1_700kbps.f4x, and sample1_700kbps.f4m. The manifest file sample1_700kbps.f4m includes infrmatin frm the input file and infrmatin frm the sample1_150kbps.f4m manifest file. 7) Enter the fllwing t prcess the third file: f4fpackager --input-file=sample1_1500kbps.f4v --manifest-file=sample1_700kbps.f4m --bitrate=1500 The fllwing files are utput: sample1_1500kbpsseg1.f4f, sample1_1500kbps.f4x, and sample1_1500kbps.f4m. The manifest file sample1_1500kbps.f4m includes infrmatin frm the input file and infrmatin frm the sample1_700kbps.f4m manifest file. The sample1_700kbps.f4m file cntains infrmatin abut the sample1_150kbps.f4v file and the sample1_700kbps.f4v file. 8) T play the file, pass the URL f the sample1_1500kbps.f4m file t OSMF Player. Because this manifest file was created last, it cntains infrmatin abut all three files.

Package and Encrypt Cntent Many cmmand-line ptins are required t encrypt a file. It s easier t use a cnfiguratin file t set ptins than it is t set ptins at the cmmand line. 1) Open the file f4fpackager_cnfig.xml in a text editr. By default, the tl lks fr f4fpackager_cnfig.xml in the same directry as the File Packager. Hwever, yu can mve it t any directry and give it any name. 2) Enter values fr the fllwing required ptins (sample values are included here): <ffline> <input-file>smefile.f4v</input-file> <cntent-id>cntentid</cntent-id> <cmmn-key>cmmnkey.bin</cmmn-key> <license-server-url> <license-server-cert>licenseserver.der</license-server-cert> <transprt-cert>transprtcert.der</transprt-cert> <packager-credential>packagercredential.pfx</packager-credential> <credential-pwd>mypwd</credential-pwd> <plicy-file>plicyfile.pl</plicy-file> </ffline> Yu can add additinal elements t change their default values. 3) Save the cnfiguratin file. 4) Open a Cmmand Windw. 5) Change directries t the directry cntaining f4fpackager.exe. 6) Enter the fllwing: f4fpackager --cnf-file=f4fpackager_cnfig.xml File Packager Reference Cmmand-Line Optins t Fragment Files Yu can use the cmmand line t set all the ptins fr the File Packager. Optins set at the cmmand line verride any ptins set in the cnfiguratin file. The nly required ptin is --input-file. Optin Descriptin Required Default Value --input-file --utput-path --fragmentduratin --duratinprecisin --allwed-drift The path t the surce cntainer file. The path can be abslute r relative t the directry cntaining the File Packager. If yu specify the --cnf-file ptin and the cnfiguratin file cntains an <input-file> value, yu d nt need t use the --input-file ptin. The path t the directry t which the packaged files are utput. If the directry desn t exist, the tl creates it. The path can be abslute r relative t the directry cntaining the File Packager. The target length f each fragment, in secnds. The actual length f each fragment depends n prperties f the input file, such as the keyframe interval. Yes N N 4 Hw precise the fragment duratins are, in secnds. N 0.1 As the tl runds ff duratins, it drifts frm the real time. This ptin specifies hw far the tl can vary frm N 1 Nne Current directry

the real time, in secnds. --segmentduratin The length, in secnds, f a segment. N 1 --cnf-file The cnfiguratin file that cntains settings fr the packaging prcess. Yu can specify an abslute path r a path relative t the directry cntaining the tl. Yu can use the filename f4fpackager_cnfig.xml r any ther legal filename. N F4fpackager_cnfig.xml If the f4fpackager_cnfig.xml file is nt in the current directry, the default value is nne. Suppse the tl is in the c:\media directry and the cnfiguratin file is in the c:\media\test directry. Run the fllwing frm the cmmand line: f4fpackager --cnffile=test\f4fpackager_cnfig.xml. --manifest-file Updates an existing manifest file. Use this ptin t package a file encded at multiple bitrates fr dynamic streaming. Fr example, yu culd package three files (sample_500kpbs.f4v, sample_1000kbps.f4v, and sample_1500kbps.f4v) and add them all t the same manifest file. N Nne If yu mit this ptin, the tl creates a Flash Media Manifest file (F4M). --bitrate Specifies the bitrate f the cntent t fragment and adds it t the manifest file. Use this ptin t serve files encded at multiple bitrates. Use this ptin r manually edit the manifest file t add the bitrate. N 0 --externalbtstrap Outputs the btstrap bx t a.btstrap file. If yu mit this ptin, the infrmatin in the btstrap bx is placed in the manifest file (F4M). N Nne Outputs DRM additinal header infrmatin t a.drmmeta file when a file is encrypted. If yu mit this ptin, the additinal header infrmatin is included in the manifest file. --cnfig-dump Dumps the cnfiguratin settings. This ptin des nt fragment the file. N Nne --sampledump Dumps the samples and the fragments they re set t. This ptin des nt fragment the file. N Nne --prgress Prints prgress updates. N Nne --help Lists and describes every File Packager cmmand. N Nne Cmmand-Line Optins t Encrypt Files Use the File Packager t encrypt files fr use with Flash Access 2.0. Pass digital certificates fr sme f the fllwing ptins. Optin Descriptin Required Default --transprt-cert The DER encded transprt certificate file. Yes Nne --license-serverurl The URL f the license server that handles license acquisitin fr this cntent. Yes Nne --license-servercert The DER encded license server certificate file used fr cntent prtectin. Yes Nne --packagercredential The PFX file cntaining the packager s prtectin credentials. Yes Nne --credential-pwd The passwrd string used t secure the packager credentials Yes Nne --cmmn-key A file cntaining the base key. The base key is used with the cntent ID t generate the cntent encryptin key. Yes Nne

The base key must be randmly generated and 16 bytes. Fr dynamic streaming (als called multi-bitrate streaming), use the same cmmn key and cntent ID fr an entire set f cntent. Using the same key and id allws a single --cntent-id The cntent ID used with the cmmn key t generate the cntent encryptin key. Yes Nne --plicy-file The file cntaining the plicy fr this cntent. Currently nly a single plicy can be applied t cntent packaged with this tl. Yes Nne --encrypt-audi Specifies whether t encrypt the audi in the file. N true --encrypt-vide Specifies whether t encrypt the vide in the file. N true --encrypt-data Specifies whether t encrypt the data in the file. This ptin supprts bth FLV and F4V/MP4 frmats. N true --msunencrypted --vide-encryptlevel The number f millisecnds at the beginning f the cntent that remains unencrypted. Use this ptin t imprve stream start times because it allws the client t acquire the license as ynchrnusly as playback begins. The level f encryptin fr H.264 cntent. Pssible values are 0 (lw), 1(medium), and 2 (high). The default value is 2. Nte: Using this ptin n nn-h.264 cntent wn t generate an errr, but it wn t change the encryptin level. The values 0 and 1 mean partial encryptin ; nly imprtant samples like vide keframes are encrypted. This setting creates fewer frames t decrypt. Use this setting t imprve playback perfrmance n the client. The value "2", encrypts all vide samples (after --msunencrypted, if specified).. N 0 N 2 File Packager Cnfiguratin File The File Packager uses an XML cnfiguratin file t read values fr cmmand-line ptins. The default cnfiguratin file, f4fpackager_cnfig.xml, is lcated in the same directry as the File Packager. It is ften easier t specify ptins in a text file that yu can reuse than it is t enter ptins at the cmmand line. Optins yu set at the cmmand line verride ptins set in the cnfiguratin file. This feature lets yu create a cnfiguratin file fr a set f cntent but edit a few settings fr individual files. Nte: Yu d nt need t use the cnfiguratin file t run the tl. Enter the --cnf-file ptin at the cmmand line t pass the name and lcatin f a cnfiguratin file. If yu dn t enter the --cnf-file ptin, the tl checks fr a file called f4fpackager_cnfig.xml file in the same directry as the tl. Yu can enter all the ptins fr packaging and encrypting, including the input file, in the cnfiguratin file. The fllwing is the frmat f the cnfiguratin file: <ffline> <input-file>/media/input-file.f4v</input-file> <utput-path>/media/http</utput-path> <fragment-duratin></fragment-duratin>... Yu can set as many ptins as yu want... </ffline> Fr ptins that take a path, yu can specify abslute paths r paths relative t the directry cntaining the tl.
