Each unit is designed to develop the student s generic workplace skills including understanding industry, health and safety requirements, and using tools of the trade to perform basic horticulture skills. Participants will learn a broad range of topics including pruning trees, identifying plants, controlling weeds, pests and diseases, operating and maintaining machinery and installing irrigation systems. It is a course designed to develop the skills and knowledge at the trade level and covers the areas of plant knowledge and cultivation, re-vegetation, pests/vermin control, maintenance, development and environmental issues. Campus: Warragul, Workplace, Traineeship AHC30110 Certificate III in Agriculture Kick start your career in agriculture with this Certificate III level course. It enables individuals to develop the skills and knowledge required to work on a range of farms such as beef, dairy, sheep, pigs or a number of niche enterprises. 13 gippsland harness training centre RGR20108 Certificate II in Racing (Stablehand) RGR30208 Certificate III in Racing (Advanced Stablehand) Community College Gippsland and the Gippsland Harness Training Centre offer Equine courses with daily hands on practical skills based training using our school horses. Whether you are completely new to the world of horses or have years of experience, we aim to provide tailored training to suit your needs. equine The stablehand course is an ideal starting point to enter the equine industry no experience necessary! In this course you will learn how to feed, groom, rug, apply basic treatments, assist with transportation whilst keeping the environment safe and clean. Campus: Gippsland Harness Training Centre The Certificate III in Racing (Advanced Stablehand) reflects the role of those responsible for the daily operations in an agistment centre, thoroughbred or harness racing stable. This course will also give the participant practical and comprehensive skills in horse husbandry. Campus: Gippsland Harness Training Centre RGR40108 Certificate IV in Racing (Racehorse Trainer) RGR40308 Certificate IV in Racing (Harness Race Driver) This course provides the skills and knowledge for horse welfare and training practices as well as business operations at a management level. This is the required pre requisite qualification for those planning on applying to become a racehorse trainer in either the Harness or Thoroughbred codes of racing. Prospective students wanting to apply for this course need to have completed the RGR30208 Certificate III in Racing (Advanced Stable hand) or demonstrate they have the equivalent skills, experience and knowledge level directly against the Certificate III in Racing (Advanced Stable hand). Successful graduates from this course can begin the independent application process with either Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) or Racing Victoria Ltd (RVL) industry licencing regulators. Harness Racing Victoria and Racing Victoria Ltd make assessments of applications and are solely responsible for issuing the Trainers Licences. Campus: Gippsland Harness Training Centre The harness race driver is an independent professional sportsperson licensed by the harness racing industry authorities to compete in industry-regulated competition. This course provides students will the skills and knowledge for learning to drive harness horses, understanding the rules and legal procedures, anatomy, fitness, physiology and overall health of the horses. Prospective students wanting to apply for this course need to have completed the RGR30208 Certificate III in Racing (Advanced Stable hand) or demonstrate they have the equivalent skills, experience and knowledge level directly against the Certificate III in Racing (Advanced Stable hand). This is the required pre-requisite qualification for those planning on applying to become Harness Race Driver. Successful graduates will be required to complete an independent driving assessment conducted by a Harness Racing Victoria representative before applying for a Harness Driver s license. 14 ECG College caters exclusively for senior secondary students studying for the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL). Classes are small to provide students with opportunities for individual assistance and to provide structured pathways to the future. Trust, respect for others and self-help are the keystones to learning and these are developed through this course offering VCAL at all levels. Students can complete their VCAL studies across one year. ecg college - VCAL For some students, attending and learning in a mainstream school environment just doesn t work. At ECG College, we provide an alternative learning environment to help young people gain a senior secondary qualification and develop the practical skills required to lead them to work, or further study. Our VCAL program: Operating from campuses at Warragul, Pakenham and Leongatha, ECG College offers the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL). With an emphasis on hands on learning, students will gain experience in their selected area of interest through Structured Workplace Learning, guest speakers, industry visits and VET in Schools (VETiS) program. 16 how do I enrol? 1. Enquire: Contact your local campus or visit our website to find the course you wish to study, to receive or download an application form and relevant course information. 2. Apply: Once you have completed the application process and you meet the pre-requisites for the course, you will be invited to attend a preenrolment interview. 3. Enrol: If your interview is successful, you will be offered a place and provided with the necessary enrolment paperwork in preparation for your training to begin. unique student identifier (usi) If you re studying Nationally Recognised Training in Australia from 1 January 2015, you will be required to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Your USI links to an online account that contains all your training records and results (transcript) that you have completed from 1 January 2015 onwards. Your results from 2015 will be available in your USI account in When applying for a job or enrolling in further study, you will often need to provide your training records and results (transcript). One of the main benefits of the USI is the ability to provide students with easy access to their training records and results (transcript) throughout their life. You can access your USI account online from your computer, tablet or smart phone anytime. You will need to give your USI to Community College Gippsland when you enrol to study. Students who need a USI include: students who are enrolling in nationally recognised training for the first time school students completing nationally recognised training from previous years students continuing with nationally recognised training Once you create your USI you will be able to: give your USI to each training organisation you study with; view and update your details in your USI account; view and download your training records and results (transcript) from early 2016 onwards; manage who can view your transcript. 17 VET fee help Community College Gippsland is an approved VET provider of the Australian Government loan scheme called VET FEE-HELP. VET FEE HELP is available to assist eligible students studying higher level vocational education and training (VET) qualifications to pay their tuition fees. Higher level VET qualifications are at the diploma level and above. For a trial period, VET FEE HELP will also be available for a limited number of certificate IV qualifications. VET FEE HELP can be used to pay all or part of an eligible student s tuition fees, but cannot be used for additional study costs such as accommodation or text books. the victorian training guarantee The Victorian Training Guarantee makes vocational training more accessible to people who do not hold a post-school qualification, or who want to gain a higher level qualification than they already hold. There are now an unlimited number of government-subsidised training places available to people who meet the eligibility criteria. Generally you are eligible for a government subsidised training place if you are: an Australian citizen an Australian Permanent Resident (holder of a permanent visa) a New Zealand citizen and are any of the following: under 20 years of age seeking to enrol in a Foundation Skills List course (and do not hold a Diploma or above qualification or are receiving core skills training in other sectors) seeking to enrol in VCE or VCAL seeking to enrol in an apprenticeship 20 years and older and up-skilling by seeking to enrol in a course at a higher level than your existing qualification. If you are enrolled at a school, you will not be able to receive a governmentsubsidised training place for a course through the Victorian Training Guarantee, unless you are undertaking the course as part of a School-Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship. The Government supports schools in other ways to offer vocational training to their students, so you should discuss all your options with your school. For more information visit: 17

18 fee structures The Victorian Training Guarantee provides an entitlement to a government subsidised place in accredited vocational education and training for all courses, subject to eligibility guidelines. If you are not eligible for the Victorian Training Guarantee and do not meet any other funding criteria, then you are still able to undertake your qualification with CCG on a full fee paying basis. Fees are made up of the following: Tuition fees: are associated with the teaching and training elements of the course Material fees: cover the cost of course resources and consumables Amenity fees: supports the provision of amenities and services, not of an academic nature, available to students Student tuition fees are indicative only and are subject to change given individual circumstances at the time of enrolment. For an individual quotation of fees payable, please contact our Customer Service Team. qualifications Apprenticeship/Traineeship An apprenticeship or traineeship is a training contract between an employer and an employee in which the apprentice or trainee learns the skills needed for a particular occupation or trade. An apprenticeship or traineeship can be undertaken on a full-time or parttime basis and can be used as a valuable stepping stone to start a career in an industry you want to work in. As an apprentice or trainee, you can: learn valuable, nationally recognised job skills get paid while learning combine formal training from a Registered Training Organisation with workplace-based training.

19 Workplace Training Workplace Based Training offers the convenience of bringing training to your door and is a great way to learn new skills. CCG s approach to training is a combination of theory, instruction and structured on-the-job learning which allows hands-on practical application and practice of the theory. The most significant benefits of workplace based training include: Minimal disruption to work flow Training is relevant to and tied in with existing or proposed work tasks Students are able to apply new skills in their job role as they progress. School Based Apprenticeship School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs) are a pathway for VCE or VCAL secondary school students aged over 15 years. An SBAT is a program where a student undertakes a Training Contract with an employer where they will combine school, part-time employment and training. A Training Plan is then signed by the school and registered with the Apprenticeship Network Providers (ANP s). An SBAT leads to a nationally recognised qualification. VET in Schools (VETiS) VET in Schools (VETiS) is designed to expand opportunities and pathways for senior secondary students, and improve educational outcomes in line with the Victorian Government s objective to increase the number of young people completing Year 12 or equivalent. VETiS also addresses the skills and employment needs of industry in Victoria. Introduced in 1994, VETiS comprises nationally recognised VET certificates undertaken by secondary school students as part of their Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL). VETiS provides a vocationally oriented program of studies leading to a senior secondary certificate. VCAL The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) is a hands-on option for students in Years 11 and 12 and provides practical work-related experience, as well as literacy and numeracy skills and the opportunity to build personal skills that are important for life and work. Similar to the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), VCAL is an accredited secondary certificate. It is a practical education stream, where students may work in a trade or part-time job on some days of the week and supplement this by doing a set course at school. For more information visit: 19
