ADULT EDUCATION 22236VIC CERTIFICATE I IN GENERAL EDUCATION FOR ADULTS (YARP) (YOUTH ACCESS RE-ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM) CAMPUS: HAMILTON, PORTLAND, WARRNAMBOOL PART-TIME (3-6 MONTHS), VCALFND001 VICTORIAN CERTIFICATE OF APPLIED LEARNING (FOUNDATION) CAMPUS: HAMILTON, PORTLAND, WARRNAMBOOL FULL TIME (4 DAYS PER WEEK, 1 YEAR) OR FLEXIBLE The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning VCAL (Foundation) is a level that focuses on basic and preparatory knowledge and employability skills. There is also a strong emphasis on literacy and numeracy skills that best meets students needs and interests. The course offers young people a chance to develop skills which will assist with basic living and employment. It also allows participants to sample a range of vocations with the view to determining further employment or study goals. The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (Senior) gives students wanting to achieve Year 12 the chance to choose the qualification options that best meet their needs and interests. It is directed towards young people who are interested in continuing further training at TAFE, completing an apprenticeship/ traineeship or continuing on a path towards university. VCAL provides students with hands on practical experiences as well as literacy and numeracy skills. At Senior level, students are guided through a more focussed independent learning situation, where work and major projects are focussed on needs and interests. Students have the opportunity to experience various trade areas, participate in community activities and participate in excursions. FULL TIME (1 YEAR), PART-TIME OR FLEXIBLE The Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) is the certificate that the majority of students in Victoria receive on satisfactory completion of their secondary education. Gaining your VCE is likely to help you gain entry into further study, including various TAFE and university courses. Attainment of your VCE may also help you transition into full-time employment. The YARP Program is unique to SWTAFE. Like many of our specialised programs, it was developed in response to community needs and interests. This course aims to re-engage young people (aged years) into education and encourage them to return to training. It presents students with a range of educational options, helps them progress to further study (if they desire) and enables them to re-connect with their community. YARP is an individualised 1:1 program with no formal classes. The program includes individual goal setting, career advice, course advice, individual support with literacy and numeracy and participation in set project work. It utilises the Certificate in General Education for Adults as the curriculum framework for student learning. 31
32 ADULT EDUCATION CONT VIC CERTIFICATE II IN GENERAL EDUCATION FOR ADULTS PART-TIME Many adults find some areas of life or work challenging. Often those who have left school early feel their skills in some areas could be improved. If you have concerns about any of the issues mentioned above, this course might be what you re looking for. It will provide you with general education skills in reading, writing, oral communication (speaking), maths and computing. 32 South West TAFE Course Guide 2016
